MGB: Villarreal -- "We have things we need to finish here"
Cr1028 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If that is the case then how can you say ANYONE would be successful here? I didn't say she would take us to the sweet 16 and win 24 games, I simply said she would've won more games here in her second season than she lost. -

Ugh no, going from 5-25 to 15-16 and then onto 16-15 is not a tremendous leap. You can't even think straight at this point. -

So you're saying she was a bad hire for NT but a good hire for UT? -

You are so bitter that your brain is not functioning. From 5-25 to 15-16 actually happened. You don't think she would've improved upon 15-16 after the drastic improvement she had on 5-25? How is one more win illogical? And no, Dan McCarney would not have won 8 game in 2016 unless Trice, Lemon, and Dodge's last recruiting class were given their quadruple redshirt senior seasons. -

It isn't the same thing. Mac's sole job is to win football games. RV's job entails much more than just hiring football and basketball coaches. -

She was here for one year. Took us from the football equivalent of 0-12 to the football equivalent of 6-6. SHE GOT HIRED AWAY!!! If she had stayed she would've undoubtedly had us a winning season which is why she was HIRED AWAY by the WEALTHIEST PROGRAM IN THE NATION!! -

I think you've lost your damn mind at this point. All rationale has gone out the window for you. Aston took a team that went 5-25 and immediately took them to 15-16. That's incredible. That is like taking an 0-12 football team to 6-6 in year one. I would take that in a heartbeat. -

Don't forget that Aston is 58-41 since being hired away and had her team in the Sweet 16 last year but RV hired her so she was a bad coach and would've failed had she not been hired away. Also, Johnny Jones was hired by RV and is 61-37 since he left and took his team to the second round of the NCAA tourney last year but if he had not been hired away, he probably would've been a failure here. -
Why would they come on here and say "me, I'm one of the 17"? So you guys can bombard them, tell them what bad people they are, how they don't care about your university because they see things differently than you"? Here is an idea and no doubt a very unpopular one at this time but maybe, just maybe, these 17 got to the means they have by making good decisions in life and not doing the popular thing. Maybe they are protecting us from ourselves. Maybe they are wise not to make rash decisions. Maybe the candidates that are available just aren't as good as RV. None of us know that, but I trust these guys because they wouldn't be able to donate over $15k every year if they had bad judgment.

If I were in RV's shoe I think I'd say, "Look at this athletic center, this new football stadium, this conference affiliation, these new soccer and softball fields, yet I can't get anyone to come here to coach winning football." You can do all the research and interviewing you can but until a guy actually takes the reigns, you have no idea if he will sink or swim. There is no such thing as a foolproof hire. RichRod and Hoke were supposed to be rockstars at UM and both failed, even at Michigan with all of their resources. I'm in the minority but I think RV deserves to stay because of the good he's done since I've been following the program. I also want to dispel the myth that only the "17" that keep flying around here want to keep RV. I haven't had season tickets since 2008 and have never been a donor. I'm just a fan that watches from 250 miles away and drives up for one game a year when I can. I missed the '01-'04 bowl years maturing but I was at NT for the '99-'00 and '05-'06 Dickey years. Despite the record, I know it was easier to be a fan in the Dodge years than '05-'06 Dickey. I've seen progress in the time I've been following even if the records don't support it. We were on the way up and now that the mistakes of the past two seasons have been corrected, we will continue our rise. Whoever replaces McCarney, whether that person is picked by RV, if that person is Canales, or if they let a poll here on GMG pick the head coach, we will be better next year and better still the year after. We are on the rise. Two things killed us over the past 2 seasons, Skladany leaving, and coach Mac using his personal relationships to choose a DC and starting qb despite there being better options available. He tempered the OC's offense to protect his chosen qb and it has harmed the school more than anyone could've known. With Canales and Smith at the helm, we will finish this season much better off than when we started it. The permanent head coach will only build on that. We will be bowling again in 3yrs at the latest. Have faith, it isn't as bad as Mac made it look. -

You told Obama we were in the same spot in football we were a decade ago. I disagree and said TSU-SM is closer to where we were ten years ago than we are. We finished 2-9 in 2005 and finished tied for dead last in a conference with only 2 teams that had six win seasons. One of those teams finished 6-5 and the other 6-6. We are in a way better place now over ten years ago despite what Mac's nepotism has done to us over the past 2 years. -

Fire RV Banner???

Obviously because..... -
Yep, it was either trot DT out there for finish the game in wildcat with Darius Carey, the College Football Performance Awards 2012 Elite Punt Returner Award winner taking the snaps. As much as I like Carey and hate that Mac ran him off, I think Dodge did the right thing putting DT out there.

Props to you @Censored by Laurie for doing something positive. -
True, I was just remembering the marketing out there. Fitz was just a walk-on green teamer for Dickey.

Collins is nicer than Fouts. We'd have to be ranked 20th playing at Fouts for a true comparison. I looked at attendance numbers going back to 2001 and the only years winning brought us a substantial bump were 2003 and 2013. 2001, 2002, and 2004 averaged 3,500 fewer attendees than 2003. Fouts was a dump, I'd almost be willing to take #128 in Apogee over #20 in Fouts.....almost. This year we are on pace to average 16,519, this will be the worst average attendance since 2006. Read that, worse than any single Dodge year. Dodge's worst year was 2008, you all remember it, worst team in the history of Mean Green football....until this season. In 2008, attendance averaged 16,956, or about 450 more than we are averaging so far. This year's average will surely fall, but how far? If we average less than 12,144 for the final two home games, and we very well could, this season would have the worst average attendance since the Big West days. I put the blame squarely on McCarney for putting personal relationships above the team and like Dickey's black uniforms, I will never forgive Mac for his nepotism (both in hiring our current DC and recruiting and naming as starter, our former starting qb). -

No, Texas State is in our spot from a decade ago. Except they have a much nicer stadium and a better offense than we had a decade ago. -

The further we get from Skladany, the worse the defense becomes.

Maybe we can steal this guy from TCU? I mean, his last football hire has led Memphis to 6-0, a #18 ranking, and a win over Ole Miss. The last football coach this guy hired won 4 consecutive conference championships and 26 straight conference games until his much hated successor fired said coach and proceeded to hire epic failures. This is the AD answer to all of our prayers. -

I used to fantasize about what would've happened if Quinn had sat in '06 after the injury and gotten a med redshirt to play one season of Dodgeball. He was much better than Brandon Jackson, our star receiver for season 1 of Dodgeball. I know @Quoner has a similar sentiment although his would just be, "I used to fantasize about what would've happened if Quinn had sat in '06 after the injury and gotten a med redshirt to play one season of Dodgeball."
