DaMarcus Smith's brother killed before Marshall game
Cr1028 replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in Mean Green Football
Dave mentioned it on the Marshall game broadcast too. -
No, I agree with the HateWeek. I hate them whether they are a nuisance or a rival. I just know I dislike them strongly.
-
They are fast approaching SMU levels of hatred from me. I don't know if I'd call them a rival but they are definitely a nuisance. UTSA-hate: SMU-level hate:

It is all speculation at this point and ultimately it does not matter what we think of the hire because we are not paid to make successful hires.

Their on-campus stadium. -
You guys talk about a splash hire, name one coach that could make a bigger splash than Mangino.
-
Some Aggies are wanting him as OC too.
-
Conversely, Todd Dodge answered yes to every one of those.

Rumor I read is that he talked to us without talking to Rhoads first and it pissed Rhodes off. People on here like to talk about ADs other than RV doing more with less. Who has done more with less as a HFC than Mangino?

Todd Reesing, his Lake Travis HS diploma, and his 11,194 career passing yards disagree.
-
Just to point out, 50-48 is better than 0-0 which is what Cumbie, Applewhite, and Kendal Briles have.

I don't see a reason for all the opposition. The guy is available today and he has a career winning record(Mac didn't have that). He is a Broyles award winner and won many coach of the year awards for his 12-1 Orange Bowl winning season at FREAKING KANSAS!! Also, the below....I've underlined and bolded the important points. He is not anything like McCarney when it comes to offense. Following the win against the Iowa State Cyclones, Mark Mangino became the first KU football coach with a winning career record since Jack Mitchell in 1966. While at Kansas, Mangino led the Jayhawks to 19 consecutive weeks ranked in the AP and/or USA Today polls (2007–08), 20 wins in a 2-year period for the first time in school history, set home attendance average records in each of the last 4 seasons (2004–2008), led KU to its first appearance in national polls since 1996 and to the school’s highest ranking ever at #2, produced the top 3 total offense seasons in school history, the top two passing seasons and two of the top three scoring seasons and won three Bowl games—the same number they had won in their 102-year history combined prior to his arrival. With 50 victories, Mangino has the second-most victories in Kansas coaching history.

I think it would've been far worse for him to leave McCarney in place until season's end. Todd Dodge was still a fan of the program for the remainder of the season he was let go because of Riley. The last two times it seems to have worked out well. The first time, when Dickey was allowed to coach out the season after being fired, was a major mistake and he should have been replaced by Kenny Evans instead.

Yes, but UH brings more fans than Memphis and Memphis having a 1 and 1 with ULM is what the thread was about. Scheduling UH is better than scheduling Memphis, in my opinion.
-
Looking at what Briles, Sumlin, and now Herman have done at UH, it seems to me like Levine underachieved. I'd say no on him.
-
Don't forget we opened our new stadium in the first game of a home and home series with UH. UH went 12-1 in that season and finished ranked #18 in the nation and were presented an invi-TAY-shun to the Houston, no the Ticket City Bowl.

Hypothetical question: If 5 years ago UNT had made Canales HC
Cr1028 replied to casual fan's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the offenses would've been better, the defenses worse(except this year's). I think given free reign, the offense would've be much more exciting to watch. D. Smith and Dajon were Chico qbs. McNulty was shoved down his throat. However, we wouldn't have won the HOD bowl or had a 9-3 season. That we owe largely to Skladany who wouldn't have come here for Chico. He did it for his buddy Mac. I think Canales would likely have been around a .500 coach overall, maybe a bit under. No seasons better than 7 wins, no seasons worse than 4 wins. -
and a place for his little buddy to live out his dreams.
