  1. A confusing story no doubt... I saw this within the story, "According to UNT athletic officials, Chapman no longer is associated with the basketball team" and took it to mean he wasn't with the school when the crime happened. Perhaps this is code for "we fired him" due to the invesitgation?
  2. I just got around to reading this. I didn't think it was that big a deal. The guy wasn't even associated with the university any longer. A certain portion of people that work and go to school at UNT, or any other school, will get into trouble. Had he currently worked at UNT that would have been another story.
  3. Pesky ole' Sunbelt clogging up 3 potential bowl spots for "real conferences." What is the world coming too? Glad to see that people are recognizing that the Sunbelt grows more and more competitive each season.
  4. Damn I hope so. I want to play and beat TCU.
  5. Does anyone actually have any comments about the quality of this player? Has anyone seen him play at SMU or in high school?
  6. True, but showing up at almost 400 pounds? Something tells me he hung out more at Taco Bell than at the gym. Inexcusable and potentially cost him a a starting role and a year of his scholarship if he plays a partial season.
  7. How in the hell do you show up for D1 football completely out of shape??? I get the impression that they just don't give a damn. I am very unhappy about this.
  8. 6'8", 220lbs......More info from SMU website: "Prep: Spencer was a three-year letterwinner at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Orange, Texas...Spencer's high school coach his senior year was Darin Harley after playing for Oliver Simmons his first three seasons... He was also part of the AAU basketball program, DFW Select, coached by Vonzell Thomas....As a senior, Spencer led his team to a 21-11 record while averaging 14 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 2.9 assists per game...For his efforts, he was named to the 2006 Orange Leader first-team as well as All-District 20-4A first-team and District Defensive MVP honors by the coaches...Ranked No. 11 in Southeast Texas by Hoopinsider.com...He also earned three letters in baseball and played AAU soccer for six years." The complete bio is here. Doesn't look like he has ever put big numbers. He may be more of a defensive oriented player. Obviously, JJ would not have recruited him if he didn't see something special in him. Welcome to the Mean Green Spencer!!
  9. Funny, but despite your face palm, you sound like you agree with me. It is not realistic to expect the students to fund this new stadium given the current circumstances. In fact, we are in deep, deep trouble if the major source of stadium funding is from the student body.
  10. YYZ28, instead of putting up a sarcastic photo (yet admittedly funny), why don't you try to explain your position. I would like to know how you can expect to charge students for tickets, when the school cannot coax enough students to fill up even half of the student section on a constant basis even when they GIVE AWAY free tickets (technically not free because of the student athletic fee already charged)?
  11. As I student, it seems that everyone on this board is trying to figure out a way that the UNT students, the brokest people around, can somehow fund the stadium. This is not a realistic plan given the state of our football program. It will never work. The stadium, or lack thereof, will depend on obtaining outside private or corporate donations.
  12. Drake may move to guard, or to a permanent seat on the bench if he cannot stay healthy.
  13. I don't follow high school football including when Dodge was at Southlake. However, from what I read and heard Dodge won championships not because of his players' incredible size or athleticism, but because they were the best coached team around. Let's hope that Dodge can create the same magic and will to win as he did at Southlake.
  14. Whether or not these figures are true, what is true that the democratic agenda is (1) increase taxes, (2) decrease military funding, (3) implement socialized medicine. No thanks to any of these - ever. I'd vote for Bugs Bunny for president (or Congress) than a democrat.
  15. I completely forgot to mention that our 2008-2009 conference schedule (does NOT include non-conference) is included in this prospectus.
  16. Also includes a nice summary of the 2007-2008 season statistics. You can find it here.
  17. Hughes apparently is a highly regarded player that got limited minutes at Texas. I wonder if she was upset about her diminished role, believing that she deserved more playing time. Whatever the reason, I am very glad she signed on with North Texas. Women's basketball is looking more and more interesting to me.
  18. I'm totally lost in this conversation.
  19. Don't you think he already demonstrated his adaptiveness last year given his record year and All American status?
  20. The live blog now reports that Fitzgerald gets the play of the day award with an across the middle catch that resulted in a TD. Keep it up Casey!
  21. Apparently, Fitzgerald is in great form. The live blog today says that other Mean Green players watch him as if he is the best player on the field and that his route running is awe inspiring to the other receivers. I hope the Fitzgerald has another fantastic season and it sounds as if he will! The live blog is here.
  22. Antoine Bush is back in action. Published a half an hour ago on the live blog.
  23. I had couple of fellow GMG members email me...I obviously was missing what folks were harping on me about.... in regard to the "lay an egg" comment, it had nothing to do with the female menstrual cycle. In hindsight, it was a poor choice of words and a figure of speech that really meant "to do something disappointing in the midst of great expectations." Anyhow, I hope that Stephans turns the women's program around quickly and that they have a great 2008-2009 season!
  24. I guess in hind sight maybe it wasn't a positive thing to say. I actually didn't really think anything about it. I am very excited about these developments in women's basketball, and plan to attend more games for sure. The goings-on in women's basketball reminded me of when Dodge first came on board. Let me reframe my negative statement in a more positive one: I really hope that the women have a good first season under Stephans' so that the excitement and new recruit signings continue into her second season.
