  1. I have trouble understanding why people have children in the first place if they cannot afford it, including medical insurance. If I had a child, developmental disorder or not, I'd get a job. If couldn't find a good paying 40 hour/week job, I'd get 2 lower paying jobs and work 80 hours/week. Heck, with school and work, I already work 70-80 hours/week. I am not insensitive to life's hardships. However, I believe in empowering people and that handouts from the government enslave, rather than empower. I also think that taxes are a true punishment. Behaviorists have well defined this: punishment = removal of a positive stimulus, and money is definitely a positive. To answer your question, I think that the American people want their tax dollars to help people who truly cannot help themselves. Is this the case with the hypothetical family? I cannot answer your question without knowing more about the parents.
  2. You are correct. Shame on me. My assumption was wrong... You know what they say... When someone assumes they make an ASS-out-of-U-and-ME.
  3. I think I already know the answer since you believe in "progressive" taxes (what I would call regressive taxes).....Do you believe that persons who pay no income tax whatsoever are entitled to the money collected by the government from other citizens? Also, I'm not anti-democrat. I am pro-low taxes and pro-strong defense. Right now conservatives most approximate these values. And I'll pass on the pipe, democrat or otherwise
  4. I get the feeling JD that you are completely OK with the inevitable tax increases that will follow with an Oboma win.
  5. The blog answered my question about size concerns of this years team. JJ's answer surprised me...he said we are actually a bigger team overall this season than last year. The blog writer then went to quote average heights for the past 2 seasons and turns out this is a taller team, even taller the team that went to the Tourny. I'm not sure I see it if you look at who we lost and who we signed... but you can't argue with math. I know the Fort Knox signing helped with the numbers... now we have two 6'10" players. Knox's height won't matter though unless he plays, though the blog has suggested that he is competing for minutes now. JJ also went on to say that we have an extremely athletic bunch.... this is going to be a fun season....
  6. I read the story on meangreensports.com about this game... it sounded like crazy game....I almost made that game too....those stupid hillbilly athletes need to learn to control themselves... the elbow incident reminded me of their undisciplined football team. Go Mean Green Ladies Soccer!!
  7. I'm pretty sure I saw Cameron Spencer at the UNT/Troy football game. As I walked to the concession stand, I saw a tall, imposing figure, obviously a basketball player, dressed in Mean Green athletic clothes. I didn't recognize the face so I knew it had to be a new recruit. I thought maybe it was Cameron, and I checked the roster pics when I got home, and I am pretty sure that it was Cameron. At 274LB, I expected to see a slightly overweight player... however, best I could tell, Cameron was in fantastic shape... definitely not what I expected.... And he will definitely be a physical presence under the basket next season.
  8. If a school that is geographically close, competes for our recruits, has great fan turn out for the games when the two teams play, have heated public fan exchanges, and recently signed a future home and home games does not equal a rival than what does? Oh well, this isn't what I hoped to talk about in this thread, but what the heck.
  9. One thing I noticed last night was the Fitzgerald was one of the few receivers willing to catch a ball when a big hit was inevitable. We dropped quite a few catchable balls b/c the receiver was anticipating the hit and took their eyes off the ball...I know I am not the one who would have to take this punishment, but dang.... catch the damn ball!
  10. I could really care less if SMU is a technically defined a "rival" or not. Interesting though that the word rival ended up in your own description of an area that SMU is in competition with us.... hmmmm..... But, really, you completely missed the point of the thread.
  11. You don't think they are a Metroplex rival?
  12. Unbelievable! Navy beats SMU 34-7 entirely with the run game... no passing attempts...pretty crazy.
  13. My predictions are more in line with you CMJ. I'd probably put UNO in the win column though so I have them 21-8. Historically, at least since I began watching, JJ's teams have started very fast out of the gate and done quite well in OOC games early in the season - even on the road. It seems the mid season lull around January or February is where we get into trouble. I look for us to do quite well in early OOC play. I think that Mean Green basketball has come a long way in that the fans can make predictions of 17-20+ win seasons and it still be considered reasonable and a real possibility.
  14. Just a bunch of fluff and gibberish in the Live Blog for men's basketball today... You'd think they'd have a ton to write about sitting at the practice all day...
  15. SMU transfer... he has to sit out a season... I am very glad to have him at practices though for this next year while he sits so that our current smaller big men can have experience going up against players with formidable weight...
  16. The blog recently reported that Eric Tramiel suffered a injury at practice. I emailed Vito to see what he knew. He said that Eric only rolled his ankle and that he was walking around yesterday just fine.... good news... we need the big men healthy and I am also eager to see Eric play. He sounds like he could be a great recruit.
  17. I hear you.. what was that stupid Civil War analogy??? Talk about an irrelevant post... how about more player performance info!
  18. Hank Dickenson said, "the 1-2-3 combo of Dominique Johnson, Josh White and Collin Dennis gives the Mean Green the best backcourt [i've] seen in [my] time in Denton." My guess is that it is also one of the smallest...This is such an interesting season ahead... the team is loaded with talent, but a bit undersized... we'll see if this athletic and aggressive bunch can overcome the weight deficit. My guess is that we will. Wooden was only 50% for most of the season and sat out quite bit... that meant we have already relied on big men at 6'8" or smaller and still managed 20 wins.. Obviously we are in the same size scenario this season, but I think our guard play will be even better... this adds up to a 20 or more win season.... which is my early season prediction.
  19. According to today's practice blog, Ben "Fort" Knox has been impressive so far and may be actually competing for playing time now. Given that everyone, including me, expected him to be strictly a project player for the next several years, this could be a exciting and important development if Ben is actually playing well enough to earn a few minutes on the floor in his freshman year. They also need to make sure that he eats 5 meals a day and hits the weights.... he needs about 25-30 Lbs added on to his 6'10" frame. Another interesting comment came from JJ who said that freshman point guard Dominque Johnson is one of the fastest PGs Jones has ever seen.... ..........should be a fun season...
  20. That is crazy. I recall when we played LSU that one our running backs, I believe Cam, got dragged out of bounds by the face mask...... it was obvious, but no call.
  21. The SMU transfer won't provide anything accept in practices because he has to sit out a year.
  22. Others have been a little skeptical about this year, but I've thought that otherwise....we are extremely deep at the guard and, assuming that Odufuwa can fill Wooden's role, then we will have a great team. The blog mentioned that Jones thinks this might be his most talented team yet, which confirms my initial impressions.
  23. Congrats again ladies! I will be out to this Friday's game to support the team! This will get very interesting. We are 1 game out of first place and we play WKU, MTSU, and Denver for our last games, all at home, and concidently these are the 3 teams ahead of us now! Down the wire! Go ladies. You control your own destiny!
  24. If you revisited ULM's schedule and results this season, I don't think you'd say that. They could could easily be a 4-2 or better team. Nonetheless, I agree that things have not been good since Dodge took over.
