USA Today College Football Countdown: #45 Texas
chrisfisher replied to elig57's topic in Mean Green Football
This Texas game is a huge opportunity for us. UT with new coach, player dismissals, starting QB out last season with injury, etc. I have no illusions that this won't be anything less than a drop down drag out dogfight, but we have a chance to win due to our excellent coaching staff. -
Four-star Duncanville SG Matt McQuaid decommits from SMU
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Ouch. That is two fantastic players they lost. What is going on at SMU basketball? Whatever it is, I kinda like it. -
That really stinks.

North Texas lands former Texas A&M guard J’Mychal Reese

Wow. This is a huge signing! Hopefully, a real boon for our struggling program. -
UT's 2014 week #1 matchup: North Texas (UNT) Mean Green
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
What a cork sucker: "We’ll be more basic in this one, in part because we almost certainly won’t lose this game and in part because I can’t be bothered to learn too much about such a team." God I hope we beat these arse holes.- 19 replies

Have we fired McCarney and Canales yet?
chrisfisher replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
This board was virtually unanimous (including myself) that Derek Thompson could not lead us to a winning season let alone win a bowl game. I recall posting, possibly starting an entire thread, on the topic of "we are screwed if Derek Thompson is our quarterback." The coaches thought otherwise, and made him the starter only to realize the best season at UNT in ages. I am going to trust the coaches on the QB pick this time around. I think the coaches have earned my trust and respect, and I hope that others will take a similar approach. -
Kelvin Gaines leaving UNT for pro career
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Is this a joke? Kelvin Gaines couldn't put up anything close to decent stats in college ball regardless of the reason. No professional team is going to sign this guy. This has to be a joke.- 56 replies

Can the 2014 UNT Football Team Surpass 2013?
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You are probably right, but if there were ever a coach to lead us to such a victory, I think it would be Mac. He is just crazy enough to believe that we can win - combine that with his relentless energy to instill this vision into our players between now and August, and you just never know. What a win that would be! -
Seems like a very fair, knowledgeable, and thorough review!

Thoughts on where UNT stands after placing Nunn
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Wow. He's the next Lebron James for UNT. -
I really, really hope that Tulsa does not represent our conference given that they leave for AAC next season. Go La Tech!!!!!!!!!!
-
I tuned in during the 2nd half.
-
I feel like I'm watching a SBC game with this terrible officiating.
-
We're screwed. Get ready for a beat down.
-
Is the game being broadcast on premium? I don't see it. Why the hell am I subscribing if we can't watch all home games?
-
Not true. We even had some Top 25 predictions coming out of major sports news media. Tony Mitchell was a top lottery pick, and our coach accepted a head coach position at LSU. All signs that our program had truly turned a corner and headed in the right direction. Even Tony was quoted as saying he saw no reason why we would not be top 25 team in his first year given our roster and winning history.
-
That may have done it. This team does not know how to win.
-
We are trying to hard to lose... almost accomplished!
-
Let's be honest, we haven't exactly earned respect given our horrible years from 2005 to 2012. We had one winning season since 2005, and most people probably think it is a fluke. It's no surprise that the P5 folks do not consider us a threat or even a real competitor - it's actually understandable. We will earn their respect (and probably some intense anger) when we go down to Austin and whoop their arses later this year! My hope is that they overlook us, but I doubt it given that this is their new head coach's first game of the season - imagine the meltdown they will have if we pull off a win!

Breaking news -- UNT lands QB Caleb Chumley
chrisfisher replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Awesome news! Does this mean no room for X. Washington? I hope not, but I am content too if so. Washington had his chance. -
UNT 2014 Verbal Commitment List (Updated Jan 27th, 2014)
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Is Chumley more or less a done deal? I recall that he committed and then Vita said hold up on this commitment as it is not as solid as originally believed. -
That's pretty bad - and this is one of our better recruiting classes. Just shows what a great job the coaches are doing - pulling out every bit of potential from our athletes.
-
And this doesn't even count some of our transfers. Remember transfer Anthony Wallace was a 4 star recruit out of high school. We also just added a Wyoming transfer that was 3 stars out of high school. This class is looking good!

Played in 2 games in 3 years. I know these players have high confidence in their abilities, but I'll never understand why players will sign on to teams with a very low probability of playing (multiple other players with 3, 4 or 5 stars playing in their position already). Just the prestige of signing with a power program like OU or Alabama? I'd rather play at a respectable D1 program each year than sit on the bench for a power conference team.
