Ben Bell looks like an awesome point guard. He scores, rebounds, and has a good command of the floor. For some reason, he seems to remind me of Tony Parker from the Spurs. Anyone know anything about Bell aside from the short blurb on meangreensports?

maybe he so depressed about our football season he's letting it carry over into the basketball games... we can't have that. Anti-depressants for Scrappy!!!
-
Thanks for the great stories on the Snake and Super Pit... sounds like fun times! Hopefully we can recreate this atmosphere at the Super Pit this season!!

I just heard the interview with Matt Phillips. He said that DD designs and calls all Green Team plays and.....get this: DD only gives them 3 plays and if they don't get a first down using them, they are pulled out of the game. Matt Phillips said they play every down like it is their last. Brilliant idea.. it really put some fire under the Green Teams arse. I have to give DD props on this one... very creative.. I don't think I've ever seen this done before.. a whole team made up of 2nd and 3rd string players... I bet he wishes he did this earlier in the season....
-
I'm sure DD will regret his inability figure out an offense adjustment sooner. He dreamed up the Green Team thing too late. The answers to his offensive problems were sitting right there on the bench! Go Figure. It very good to know that most of the Green Team players are very young and will give us some talent for several years while our new head coach tries to get recruiting going.
-
The Green Team does it again! I think their success at running, throwing, and scoring TD's really highlights just how many problems our starting offense players had.
-
He appeared to have ice bags on BOTH knees. I noticed that Wooden wears that big, black leg brace on one leg at all times. Apparently, he has knee problems. I hope they are not too bad or limit his play this season.

Just saw this on the tube... tonight at 6:30 - 7:00. You think we'll even be included or will it be the UT, TAMU, and TCU show?

I felt like y'all may be underestimating attendance a bit, and I don't put faith in my long term memory any more than my faith that I could lift an 800lb elephant. So I researched attendance for all home games, excluding exhibition, for 2005-2006. I think attendance was a little better than most remembered, though there were some poor turnouts as some have pointed out. Team/Date/Attendance/Result Hardin-Simmons vs North Texas (11-18-05) 1428 Win Chattanooga vs North Texas (12-3-05) 1709 Win Nicholls State vs North Texas (12-10-05) 1321 Win Angelo State vs North Texas (12-19-05) 921 Win Houston vs North Texas (12-23-05) 4102 Loss UT-Permian Basin vs North Texas (12-28-05) 927 Win Stephen F. Austin vs North Texas (12-30-05) 1338 Win Louisiana-Lafayette vs North Texas (1-7-06) 1314 Win New Orleans vs North Texas (1-7-06) 2108 Loss Florida Int. vs North Texas (1-12-06) 1871 Win Denver vs North Texas (1-16-06) 2012 Win Troy vs North Texas (1-26-06) 4309 Win South Alabama vs North Texas (1-28-06) 4954 Loss Middle Tennessee vs North Texas (2-9-06) 2058 Loss UT-Pan American vs North Texas (2-15-06) 1821 Win Notice towards the middle of the season how attendance tried to build with the win over Lou.Lafayette, then dropped after the New Orleans loss. The attendance went straight up with wins over Florida Int, Denver, Troy, and peaked with the South Alabama game...followed by a 50% decrease with our loss against S. Alabama. This just goes to show that folks are ready to support a UNT BB team (1) that wins tough games and (2) wins against good conference or OOC (as shown by the Houston game) foes. I strongly believe that if our team starts winning out, we can easily have 5000-7000 at Super Pit.

I agree. The students use to heckle and harass....auh, I mean cheer against, the visiting team players and coach over on the bench as much as possible. With them moved we can no longer do that. I'll really miss yelling at the visiting coach for the entire game to stay the hell off the playing floor!!!!

I think your analysis is a good one and might as well be applied to the whole team. If we can get Calvin Watson, Michael Sturns, and Kendrick Davis to all make their shots in the same game (doesn't seem like they ALL shoot well on a given night) combined with good play from Ben Bell, Harold Stewart, and Keith Wooden..... WHOA.. watch out because this team will be hard to beat and I think we'd have a legitimate chance to win the SBC and enter the NCAA tournament. Big man we need to step up and have a break out year: Quincy Williams. Players I am still trying to figure out: Jonathan Jackson and Collin Mangrum.

Everyone in my student section was talking about it. That had to be the WORST Scrappy I have ever seen. He was moping around all night. I am a doctoral student in the psychology department and if Scrappy needs therapy, I'll donate my time... though I have to admit, I have never worked with an Eagle before
-
I would have vehemently argued with you on Sturn being our best player; however, after last night's first half performance you may have an argument there. Time will tell this season.
-
Wooden had rough game tonight. He missed a bunch of "easy" shots. I think (hope) he just had an off night... we'll find out Wed against UTA.
-
I know several folks have said good things about Michael Sturns. I wasn't really that impressed with him last season or in our first game this season. BUT, that all changed tonight. He was on fire in the first half. He has some serious moves and occasional Harlem Globetrotter style play. If he performs like he did in the first half over this season, I'll be a big time Sturns fan. He does have tendency to try to do too much on his own with the ball. But this something that is easily solved through good coaching. I am very excited about this BB team!
-
I'd love it if we did... but I seriously doubt it. It is too early in the season for those kind of numbers.
-
I am not sure what folks on here are talking about.. last season, we often had several thousand... I think it got up into the 4,000-5000 range for a short time when it looked like we had a chance to take over the conference. Granted we have a 10,000 seat stadium so even at the peak it was 50% empty. However, I feel very confident that if our boys start having a STRONG winning season, I think we will have a some really good turn outs. We play regional rival UT-Arlington next week.. Look for a great game and great turn out!
-
I went to most of the games last year... during most of the season there were many thousands of fans there. I think we peaked at 5,000 for one game. I might be remembering that figure wrong though.. we had a blast and the fans were getting really rowdy last year.... It looks like we will have a really good team this year.. really exciting...My daughter and I will be out tonight! See ya out!

Can we get back to the original topic now? These posts are sooooooooooooo silly.

Damn... you guys just do not know when to stop. Please tell me your are joking. Somehow I fear not. Messenger is a Windows based instant messaging client (Yahoo, AOL, etc. all have instant messengers). Most anyone under the age of 30 uses it. It is built right into Windows XP... like magic... you should try it sometime... you can read up on it here.
-
You aren't giving anyone a "pass." All you are doing is aggravating people. Youngsters spend an enormous amount of time on instant messenger, message boards, forums, etc. They have developed a shorthand language for their posts. I think you would drop dead of a heart attack if you read it. You will never get younger folks on this board with this stuff. The first time you correct them will the be the last time they come back. Personally, I do not come here to get graded (I get enough in my UNT doctoral program); rather to enjoy my time with other UNT supporters. By the way Mr. Perfect Syntax, your critical analysis on youngsters’ poor use of the English language included a bit of its own: "Who's" is not only misspelled, it was used improperly. In reality, you stated, "who is fault is that." The correct word you were searching for is "whose." In addition, you ended that sentence with a period when asking a question. Of course, it should have ended with a question mark. But please, do not worry about it, I'm giving you a pass, and most of all, I forgive you.

I seriously doubt that RV fired DD without first having a strong candidate list, and he probably has already been talking to some of them.
-
Who granted you word police duties? Forgiving him? C'mon. I already posted my thoughts on this early today in another thread, but I will say that this grammar correction stuff is ridiculous. You folks out there that have nothing better than to critique members' grammar and spelling desperately need to get a life.

Lame.

I am not so sure about the told you so comment, but I was actually wondering when you would be back. I have to give you props for your prediction/information (or intuition, guess, ?) you posted.
