The ESPN3 announcers, who I think were SMU, were actually fairly decent. They mentioned repeatedly the poor performance of our QB. They stated many times that he was very inaccurate and had very poor to no timing with the receivers. Even when we were ahead in the 3Q, I knew we had no chance. Our defense, which looked pretty good, and special teams kept us in the game. Our offense was inept mostly due to poor QB performance. You can't get a running game going if there is no passing threat to keep the defense honest. Everyone in the stadium, and especially the SMU defense, knew that we could not beat them in the air. I'll take Smith even with expected mishaps (apparently as our coaches assess this situation) just to watch D1 football (speed and accuracy) at the QB position.

I thought they looked great, some of the best ever for UNT.

Hard to believe it's here. It always feels like a lifetime in the off-season. GO MEAN GREEN! For those who live out-of-town, like myself, the game will be broadcast on the awesome ESPN3.

Coker: UTSA will 'reboot' after losing season last year
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The article also said 4 completions on 21 attempts with 4 interceptions. -
Good question on Reese. The roster is missing quite a few new signees so hopefully the roster is simply a work in progress. Not sure why they would publish something incomplete thought.

He is a below average quarterback with a weak arm. Many players are "dedicated" to a team, but this alone does not justify playing time - performance on the field primarily justifies playing time. We had a horrendous season at the quarterback position last year - we need fresh blood that is athletic and can actually throw reliably accurate passes.

Now the video went down.

Video on but audio not in sync - audio about a minute delayed from video. Why does everything related to the UNT video service have to suck so bad?

Video on now.

Video only shows spinning UNT logo plus audio. Can't watch the game, only listen. Why does everything related to the UNT video service have to suck so bad?

FIU Alumni Assc Prez calls for removal of AD
chrisfisher replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
FIU really screwed up when they fired their football coach, whose name I can't recall, a few years ago. He lifted their program up to new heights and respectability. He had one bad season, and they fired him and haven't been the same ever since. Even worse, I recall their coach had an offer for a coaching position from a power program that he turned down because he was committed to FIU - and then he was fired.- 40 replies

One thing is clear with our offense. We are at our best taking the first open shot, even if a little hurried. When we pass it around for 20 or 30 secs, we look really flat. We just need to play a hurry up offense that constantly presses and takes first open look.

Only if they drop Lafayette from their name. University of Louisiana.

Exactly. Winning is entertainment. AKA S.A. Spurs.
-
To put it bluntly, we're screwed for this game. Expect a 15 to 25 point loss at home. This will not be good for the already low attendance.
-
That's a pretty bad loss. And FIU lost to CSU-Fullerton. I really wish that FIU and FAU were never added to CUSA.

Exciting game. Much better than I anticipated. We looked like a tourny team in the first half. In the second half, we started to hurry up the offense and take progressively more crazy shots and played more and more out of control. Free throws absolutely killed us - very disappointing that our good effort and chance to win against a ranked opponent would be sabotaged by this basic skill. Definitely things to build on here nonetheless. Hopefully, we can give OSU a great game - maybe even pull off the upset.

Shooting Three's - Jones/Benford Strategies?
chrisfisher replied to cogido's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I've wondered if it's because they do not practice offense in general, and specifically 3's, that often. I've heard Benford say multiple times over the years that they primarily work on defense in practices. At some point, Benford might want to change his philosphy to simply outscoring his opponnent. We've never been a good defensive team, and I haven't seen that change a whole lot since Bendford took over, especially given the amount of practice time he alledges he devotes to defense. -
I just watched the last 5 to 6 mins of the 49ers and South Carolina game. What an ugly finish. 49ers got away with a blatant double dribble with about a 1 min left just before they were fouled by Gamecocks - refs called the foul and not the double dribble which resulted in 2 made free throws by 49ers - probably the difference in the game. Glad the 49ers won, and a win is a win - even better a win against the SEC.

ULM's identity in basketball and football seems to be give everyone hell in non-conference games, even major conferences or ranked teams, and then lay a big ole loser egg in their conference games.

NCAA Clearinghouse ruling on A&M player
chrisfisher replied to MeanGreenZen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
My apologies Andrew if I am wrong, but this makes no sense. -
Normally, I'd like Delaware State to win out to help boost their RPI, and thus ours. However, if Delaware State somehow pulls off the victory against Arkansas, then our win against Arkansas (another major assumption) will be viewed as less important. I think the ideal situation would be for Arkansas to lose to us, but win out in every other game, including Delaware State??
