  1. We did great on the boards. I don't know if y'all have noticed but we have a very big (both height and weight) and aggressive team. The FCS Atlantic announcers were very impressed with the size of our guys, noting that despite our size we are extremely fast and highly aggressive in going to the basket. They also mentioned that we have a deep bench for big players. I really enjoyed the announcers yesterday. They were obviously WKU supporters but gave a very balanced view of the game and players. They were critical in some aspects of our game, and extremely complementary in others.
  2. They may or may not count against our record, but since they are not D1A they will not count with any of the major rating services (Sagarin, etc.). I would prefer to see us take on a lower tier mid major if they are going to book body bag games. At least we will benefit in terms of stats.
  3. I thought we handled the press the best we have all season. Bell seems to have adjusted well to this very well at this game, and basically just tells everyone to get into the front half court while he moves the ball out of the back half court. And when he is doubled teamed he quickly finds the open man now.
  4. Jackson looked really good in practice. Listed at 6'8" and 240lb.... he actually looks much bigger in person... make no mistake about it, he is a giant. For reference, although 1" shorter than Stewart, he is 55 pounds heavier and looks very able. He was mentioned as injured during the Nichols game, but I have not heard anything about him since then. Anyone got any info?
  5. I would never wish that KD be benched for any reason, injury or otherwise. He is easily my favorite player; however, with KD out, I think this team grew enormously. Instead of relying on KD for scoring and last minute shots, they were forced to rely on each other. So many players stepped up... Sturns, Williams, Wooden, Watson, Bell, Young, and most of the bench. I can't wait for KD to return either! WOW! I doubt that the players who stepped up will step back. Combined with KD's scoring/defense, we'll be hard to beat. How many points will KD, Watson, and Sturns score together?!?!
  6. Harold played something like 2 minutes against UNO, and played very poorly. I suspect that Jones kept him out as a punishment.
  7. No such thing in SBC play. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
  8. That was a complete game! Jones had the bench playing right from the get go. I initially questioned Jones' judgment about putting in young players so early, but damn he called that right. Had he not, we would lost that game because of foul outs. Great win for UNT!!!!
  9. This game will come down to whoever can shoot free throws best. I don't like our chances.
  10. The refs are starting to call EVERYTHING. Ticky-tak fouls all over the place.
  11. One announcer just said, "I haven't seen a team (UNT) turn around this quickly in 8 months. Last time they were in this arena, they were not that good. Now, they are a really good team."
  12. Wooden is having a really good night. It looks like he is starting to get better with each game. I can't help but wonder how much his leg has been a factor b/c now that his leg is healing up (he is even wearing a smaller brace tonight) he just keep getting better.
  13. Either foul happy or playing extremely aggressive. I suspect Jones told them to play super aggressive as he is rotating in bench players typically reserved for big lead games.
  14. The announcers are going ape shit over Watson's deep 3 point shooting! They love Watson.
  15. Collin Mangrum has been in a couple of times now. He has scored at least 1 bucket.
  16. The announcers have been saying how impressed they are with our size, quickness, and incredibly aggressive play to the basket.
  17. It looks like we are playing very aggressive to the big men under the basket! I hope that keeps up. Also, the announcers have been very kind to UNT so far.
  18. Yes! The game is listed on Verizon fiOS on FCS Atlantic. Get to watch the team on TV.
  19. There is definitely a mental aspect. However, nearly EVERY player has free throw problems which lead me to believe there is room for improved coaching on how to properly shoot free throws as well as dealing with the game time high stress/pressure at the free throw line. Jones should not only hold free throw practices, but he should also try to create game time situations. Some ideas the coaches could implement while players take free throw shots include: play loud, pre-recorded noisy fans over the speakers, have other players yell and scream at them, have other players jump at them, invite students to the practices to intimidate them (verbally, not physically of course), and teach them breathing and mental imagery techniques. Of course, each player needs to review film to go over their shooting mechanics too.
  20. I don't know anything about how Tune plays so I can't predict anything with him. All else being equal (no big time QB transferring over, etc.), I predict Woody Wilson takes the job. He is extremely fast, a great scrambling QB, and has an very accurate arm (60%+ completion rate). He just needs to work on cutting down on interceptions, and I think Dodge is the man to teach him how to do this.
  21. We actually played extremely well against UNO (take at look at our stats). There is a simply explanation why we lost: free throws. Here are the final totals: UNT Free Throws: 1st Half: 2-7, 28.6%---2nd Half:5-8, 62.5%--- OT:5-13, 38.5%---Game: 42.9% UNO Free Throws: 1st Half: 6-8, 75.0%---2nd Half:5-10, 50.0%---OT:7-7, 100 %---Game: 72.0% It seems the free throw problem has been with the team for several seasons. I don't know if this is reasonable suggestion or not, but it seems to me that Jonnie Jones needs to bring in a free throw specialty coach. Obviously, Jones really struggles teaching this aspect of the game to the players.
  22. Get this... Quincy Williams knocked down a 3 point shot to close out the half with a few seconds left on the shot clock.. that is not a typo.... I said Quincy.
  23. I just noticed that this game will be video broadcasted over Mean Green Premium! Last year I had to pay Western Ketucky ten bucks to watch the game. Apparently, UNT and WKU reached an agreement to stream each of our home games to the other university. Great!
