  1. sorry for the typo.. I just realized I put "Mean" in the header, rather than "Mean Green."
  2. Predictions for today's game anyone? My prediction: this season we have played with a fury following a tough loss. Look for Calvin Watson and Sturns to have huge games. Also, we appear to have a height advantage so look for either (or both) Quincy and Wooden to score some decent points.
  3. I think Bell plays very well, distributes the ball good, and contributes much more than his limited points suggest. Sturns is a streaky player. I like his role off the bench, for the time being.
  4. I meant everyone else outside of this fan board. When other coaches and teams speak of us, they hold us in high regard. Also, I cannot agree or disagree with your statements regarding this season being special or not b/c they are all predictions. You may or may not be right. I will wait until the season is over to pass judgment.
  5. Hey fellas, I am as disappointed about this loss as the rest of you, but just as one win doesn't define a season, one loss does not either. We are a far better team this year in so many areas. JJ has put together one of the biggest, most athletic teams around, and this is the first time in a long time UNT has had a team like this. Everyone else can see it. Why can't you? Continue your support and let the season play out. If we finish 14-14 or something like that, then I'll jump on board.
  6. What about the Western Kentucky victory? That was a clutch win. What about all the on-road OOC wins this season? We are a MUCH better team this year so far. But, there are alot of games left to determine whether or not we have improved overall since last season.
  7. That is disappointing loss. Our shooters and big men never really got going. I want to see how we respond to this loss at our next game before I crucify JJ and the team.
  8. But they are doing it too early in my opinion. Working backwards before they have too.
  9. They need to stop throwing the ball backwards when the full court press is applied... just keep it moving forward...
  10. Never mind, they just said that it is coming up.
  11. What happened to the Mean Green pre-show on 100.7? They have a preacher on right now???
  12. MeanGreenBuzz, I believe that MichaelSpappy is speaking as a UALR supporter. Reread his posts on this topic. I commented on this confusion myself in an earlier post in this thread. We are excellent shooting, high scoring team. Even after KD went down.
  13. Actually, I think WKU has a shot to win. Of all the games we played this season, Nebraska is the one I want back. I really hope we get play them again in the NCAA or NIT tournament. We lost by 19 points... but when you consider we shot 25% in the first half plus had a ton of turnovers (25 total in the game), they should have put us away by much more. We had such a bad game we couldn't even dribble... how many times did our guys knock the ball off their foot only to send it out of bounds. Had we not self-destructed in the first half, we would have made a game of it. Now that Kendrick is back and Wooden is healthy (not mention Williams/Sturns are on fire), I'd rematch this game anytime, anywhere with Nebraska. I say "bring it."
  14. I am glad WKU won this one because I don't want them to be considered damaged goods when we spank their ass at the Super Pit.
  15. I am really board being out of school so I thought I ramble a bit: I am sure that everyone realizes this already, but nevertheless I'd like to point something out: Since the start of the season, the Mean Green B-Ball team has NEVER been 100%. For example, Keith Wooden played injured until the last 2 games (around only 60% healthy) and our #1 scorer, Kendrick Davis, sat out a majority of the games. More recently, Harold Stewart disappeared from the line up for "personal reasons" and Calvin Watson set out the all but 1 minute in the Denver game. Now our record: 11-3. What? Had anyone told me at this at start of the season given the above, I'd have told them they were crazy. With the exception of Harald Stewart, it looks like the UALR game will be the first time this season that we will see the Mean Green at full strength (assuming that Watson's ankle is OK). I am very excited to see what we can do! I also like that we are extremely deep on the bench and play time is getting EXTREMELY competitive. Each player will have to give 120% effort, make their shots, and play excellent defense else they will be benched. I am still curious to see how JJ divides up time between Davis, Watson, Sturns, Young, and Bell. Moreover, JJ shows signs of playing Williams and Wooden (combined weight of 460 lbs under the basket!) at the same time (as evidenced in the Denver game), which will make the guard spot even more competitive given 1 less position available. This is shaping up to be a fun season. I hope things keep swinging our way.
  16. I had to read this twice to understand what you were saying. I think you are speaking as a UALR fan? I am very excited about this game. UALR gave us problems last season and knocked us out of the SBC tourney. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I hope we win with a vengeance to make up for those loses.
  17. Thanks for the info! As a dedicated UNT fan, I can't believe I have never heard of the North Texas Sports Zone show. Our athletic department should have this on their website.
  18. Is the Mean Green Insider also broadcast locally on Charter or Verizon FIOS? I looked on Mean Green Sports but couldn't find anything. If so, what day/time does it broadcast? Thanks?
  19. MeanMag, did you get the information you need to try to get the Mean Green on air in Dallas? If not, you should send him a PM. I'd love to see us on Dallas TV!
  20. New Orleans beat CUSA foe Tulane (7-5) last night 84-77. Good out of conference win for the SBC. It looks like UNO beat them with 3 point shooting.
  21. I disagree. Perception is everything. As flawed as these systems may be, having our name high in any one of these charts (voting or stats based) facilitates the perception that UNT is a team to be reckoned with. And I don't just mean the perception of NCAA/NIT Tournament types. Having our name in the Mid-Major Top 25 also positively effects our team's self-perception and confidence in their ability to play as well as effects how other teams around the league view us. IMO, this can translate to real results at game time. In addition, I would think (I don't know this) chart rankings of any kind would help with recruiting as this is just one more thing our coaches can show a recruit when they consider UNT. Obviously, if you are voted a national Top 25 Mid-Major by your peers, the coaches/team/school are doing something right as the team's success is being acknowledged at a national level.
  22. As best I can tell, they rotate coaches each season. Last season, if I recall correctly, JJ was on the panel.
  23. I agree with you. But I think we may have turned a major corner with Williams having a break out year, Wooden starting to play like a big-time player (now that he is almost 100%), Sturns/Watson huge scoring, and Davis returning to the line up. This is getting very exciting.
  24. I really believe that we played a great first half against a hot-shooting Denver team. We hung with them shot-for-shot and kept the score close, knowing that they couldn't keep that up the whole game. When teams "just make their shots" their is little you can do (aside from fouling) except to get a hand in their face and apply pressure. IMO, that was the best all around game we have played in 2 seasons (since I started as a fan). I also think this may have been a break out game for our team. Our guards now have full confidence in Williams and Wooden under the basket and went to them more often than I have ever seen. Our guards also found out that even when Quincy and Wooden are scoring often, they will still get their points, if not more.
