I do/have understand/understood your position. However, you may or may not be right about this season, despite your steadfast confidence in predicting the future. I hope your not, but time will tell. NT03 is right, we've taken over this women's b-ball thread.. sorry.

From what I understand, he took over a program that could best described as pathetic. Granted we haven't been to the tourny but other things have been accomplished. Some the things I can think of off the top of my head are some the stats I have read, and I may be off a bit b/c I don't keep with them: best starting record since the 1970's, best home record since the 1970's, on track to quickest 100 wins (not sure on this one). Moreover, he is getting quality players to transfer over (Wooden, Davis, Bell, etc.), two of which are sitting out a year. From what I've read on gmg, the athletic department hasn't exactly put quality support behind basketball until only recently. It seems that he is turning the ship around despite this. Look, I am not a hard nosed supporter of JJ (or any of our coaches for that matter - I want production!), though I like him as person and think that he is a decent coach. He may or may not be our man to take the team where obviously you and I want it to go. I do believe strongly that it is way to early to be calling for his head in the middle of the season with a 13-6 record. Maybe I am naive, but I will not let predictions of a negative future ruin my fun for the season. There will be plenty of time to discuss JJ's future once we have a clearer picture of where the team is headed. Ya, if we start losing out the rest of season (and as it stands we've only lost more than 1 in a row 1 time), maybe I'll jump on the bandwagon, as I am sure RV would too. If we play hard the rest of the season, do OK in conference and the SBC tourney (or even go to the NCAA/NIT tourny), I still feel we have the best shot of winning next season by giving him 1 more year. I think that if he cannot win with the arsenal of current players and transfers (including those sitting out), then he probably won't be able do it in future seasons.

Sarcasm detector going off loud I think the Slinker/JJ situations are a bit different. JJ has set/achieved numerous stats/goals that haven't been achieved by any UNT men's b-ball coach since the 1970's. For example, our home win record. And besides you can say whatever you want (i.e. "you can't say that"), there just may be some who will disagree.

Kendrick Davis had another rough shooting night with only 36% (4 of 11) on 2 pointers. The difference between the loss at FIU and the win against FAU was that other players (Watson, Sturns, etc.) stepped up to score when KD went cold. I hope KD has a big time game against MTSU this Thursday.

What Changes Do You Want To See After Season...

Actually, I followed the team last season also. Two years now. We are talking about firing a coach who is 13-6 because we believe the team will collapse the rest of the year during conference play and the SBC tourny without actually seeing it happen. Please don't give the me the "ya, but we played some powder puff teams" argument because everyone does it, even in the revered BCS conferences. I've seen alot of progress this year, while at the same time areas that need big-time improvement. But I can't say "fire him" because we had a couple of ugly losses on the road. I want to see how we do the rest of the season and in the SBC tournament before I would entertain the idea of a new head coach. -
I emailed customer support for mean green premium last night. I don't know if it will end up to the right person or not.

19-20 Recruits Expected Tonight..help Us Id Them
chrisfisher replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Definitely! I really wish our first half performance was much better, though I doubt a football player would make his final decision based on the energy level of our basketball team. But it would have been nice for them to see our real offensive attack. -
Maybe... that was the best attendance by far that we have had this season. Student turnout was alot better too...you could tell the AD department wanted to up the ante on the game time atmosphere tonight probably due to the football prospects being out... they had our best dancers dancing, an enthusiastic Scrappy, lots of hands outs, t-shirt giveaways, etc. It really made a real difference.. I hope they keep that up.

Caution on the stats for the FAU game.... meangreensports has the FIU stats wrongly posted for the FAU game... I'm going to email them...

I hope I am remembering this right, but I seem to recall seeing someone with #42 in a green letter jack with a Dragon's emblem. I assume this was Southlake Carroll Dragons. Anyone know who #42 is? This may have been Justin Padron as I don't know his number?.?. -
It was great having the pit crew there tonight!! It definitely increased the home game atmosphere. They were loud from the get go (as were I... my voice is going out!) shouting "defense" on the initial start of FAU first possession. I hope they keep coming out!!!!

Gotcha! Breathing now...

What Changes Do You Want To See After Season...
chrisfisher replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I can't vote on this. You left out one other option: wait until the end of the season so we can get a more complete idea of how the team ended up. I can't decide if someone should get pushed out based on 1 win here or one loss there. And I certainly wouldn't say he stays or goes regardless of his performance. I need to know the overall way this team is headed, and I can't get that until I see the season play out. Moreover, I would rather focus my energy on supporting the team, including JJ, than calling for his head before we know what is going to happen. -
12? What game were you watching. They had five 3 pointers... we had 10.

Just got home from the game. Great win! Both teams played tight defense in the first half, and we did have some trouble making our shots too. The first half was also very physical and the refs were letting them play. We could hear slaps to the hands and arms up in the stands with no fouls called. The second half the refs really tightened up the calls though. We got hot in the second half, and played unselfish team basketball. We seemed to have a more aggressive and relentless, yet controlled, instinct/drive to score points similar to the Charlotte and Western Kentucky games. I like that style of Mean Green B-ball best!

Definitely. I hope Woody pans out for the starting QB role. In fact, I predict it (though I don't know anything about Tune). If TD watches the SMU game, I think he will give Wilson a hard look. Woody is an excellent, extremely fast, and very accurate QB that got caught up in a terrible DK8MITBD offensive system, and ended up trying to force passes to make up for the shitty play calling and lack of scoring.
-
True that we only lost by 1 point; however, our second half scoring output dropped. In fact, FIU had at least 2, maybe 3, 5-7 minute scoring droughts, where we could not pull ahead to take a commanding lead; moreover, we would go on a scoring drought ourselves during these periods. It is also true that both defenses tightened up, but I can't help thinking that if we were a tad more aggressive in the second half we could have easily won. On another note, KD had a really bad game in terms of shooting (4 of 15 on 2 point shots). I am not criticizing, only stating a fact. I wouldn't think of coming down on him on him for this off night given how many times he has saved our arses. Wooden stepped up his play big time in the second half, but we needed another guard to get the hot hand when KD was struggling, and it didn't appear that anyone heeded that call.
-
One observation: I noticed in the first half we came out swinging like the team of old from earlier this season. We were super aggressive in our shooting, Cavlin Watson had the hot hand, and were nailing our shots, including 3 pointers. Then, in the second half, our offense went super conservative. It was almost like JJ told them that they were being too aggressive or needed to stop taking outside shots and move the ball around more to wait for the "high percentage shot." I am not sure how to explain the night and day difference in halfs?!? Anyone else have a better explanation?
-
what is a good sign is that FIU is shooting 50% on 3's. They have 9 or 10.. and we are still right there in the game... KD is having a rough game now.. he isn't making any his shots....
-
we weathered that huge FIU three shot storm they threw at us..our defense did a good job of finally shutting down their 3's and offense.... we just need to get our offense going now...
-
They nailed a bunch of threes at the end... 3 or 4 in a row.. dont' sweat it.. we shot 52% on 2's, 40% on 3's, and had 5 blocked shots, and played good ball all around... We just need to keep that up, and tighten up a bit on defense and we'll be fine.
-
We lead most of the first half but FIU came back at the end to go up by 1 point... I think it something like 38-37. I actually forgot. Calvin Watson is dropping bombs, and Sturns is starting to get hot as well. KD has been steady as usual. For some reason JJ has a weird rotation that includes Mangrum and Howerton playing at the same time for several minutes at a time.

hello.....hello... echo....echo.... Is anyone out there? Watson is on fire again this game!

I am trying to get a refund. Apparently they do not broadcast any basketball games. Basketball is not listed under the Live area nor do they list in on the website as a sport that is regularly video broadcasted... I wonder why? Those goof balls even do live broadcasts of softball games!?! But no basketball? Looks like Mean Green Radio here I come. Hope we win tonight!

HOLD OFF on this purchase. I just went to the live events section and neither the ongoing women's basketball game or the upcoming men's basketball game is listed. I'll repost if I am able to see the games.
