I agree. Our poor shot and time management, problems making free throws, and difficulty adjusting to them doubling down on our post guys lost the game for us. Very disappointing b/c we had that game won, but found a way to unravel at the end.
-
We definitely choked.

Keith, you should bounce over to the chat.
-
I think the video casts have some additional footage.
-
I'll stop in and out of the chat during some breaks and time outs...
-
the video feed just started.
-
Normally it is 5 minutes before showtime. The player actually has it starting at 1:15, but I haven't got the feed yet. I suspect it will work right at game time.

Anyone watching/listening to the game today? The BB forum looks empty. Big game. I hope we do well.

Where have you been? We won on Thursday.

I understand what you are saying, though I whole heartedly disagree. I must point out that you contradict yourself in your statements. First, you say that these regular season wins mean nothing and should have no bearing on JJ's future. Then you say that there is no reason we should not finish first or second (and then win 2 tourny games); however, for us to take first or second place, we have to win regular season games. Apparently, these games do mean something to you as indicated in your final measurement for success. Never underestimate the value of winning, especially regular season games. When you win, a windfall of good things start to happen - most importantly, the team's confidence sky rockets, and this how you must enter playoff games if you expect to win. How many teams have you seen in any sport that crap out during the regular season only to go deep into the playoffs? There are examples, but these are exceptions to the rule. Think how we entered the SBC tourney last season - on losing streak; how far did we get?. The regular season sets the mental tone of the team as well as the seeding for the playoffs (or tournament in this case). To say that regular season wins do not make a difference is a big mistake in my opinion. Hypothetical: If Jonnie Jones wins out the rest of the season (record = 23-6), and then loses in the first round... would I fire him? It depends on how they lose. If they get blown out, then I might make a case for it. But if the team plays hard and it comes down to the wire, I'd keep him. It will be hard for any coach we hired to surpass that record, and I think JJ deserves another shot at the SBC tourny just based on that excellent regular season performance.

Have I said, "Thanks RV" lately? I haven't, so here it goes: THANK YOU Rick Villarreal! I appreciate your hard work and dedication to making UNT a nationally respected and competitive institution. We are very fortunate to have you!

Please explain what you mean. Was he considered a post-man in HS?

Nice find! I am a premium member. I was already checking last night how much I'd have to pony up to USA.

Sorry Harry... I thought I was in the BB forum when I posted. Thanks for sending it over to the proper forum.

From what I've read, Harold Edwards was a highly regarded recruit. I read his bio on MeanGreenSports, and he was recruited by some good programs. He actually played a fair amount last year. This year... very little. A few cosmetic minutes here and there. I think Mangrum has played more then Edwards. Is he in JJ's dog house? Or perhaps JJ is trying to develop him for prime time Jr. and Sr. play? I can't imagine Edwards is happy sitting on the bench this entire season, nor that JJ would let this good recruit sit out the rest of his time at UNT. Has anyone heard anything on Edwards?

I guess I'll reluctantly chime in too. I really don't like making negative posts towards other fellow gmg members. However, I can't help but notice these "fire JJ" or "we're going down the toilet" types are no where to be found after two consecutive wins. Where are these guys when we win? They come crawling out of the woodwork to laud our struggles and blast the coaches/team. I bet these guys are saying, "damn I wish we wouldn't win. It only encourages RV to keep JJ." I'm basically to point where I don't care anymore what these disgruntled folks say. I am going to keep supporting my team and, most of all, try to enjoy being a Mean Green fan.

BTW, the UNT dancers looked smoking hot tonight in their shiny green outfits... damn, it was hard to watch the game.

Yes, fairly vocal fans for a small crowd. We really need to thank the Pit Crew for helping keep the crowd motivated and yelling. The Pit Crew is making a huge difference in the home game atmosphere, even when the crowds are small. I hope they keep it up.

Just got home from the game. Big win against a very good road playing opponent. I thought that was our best all around defensive effort this year. UNT bodies were flying and diving all over the place, damn near wrestling matches on the floor for the loose ball, and all around smothering defensive coverage. It seems the past few games we have tightened up big time on defense. Now we just need to up the offensive output a bit (JJ mentioned this point on the radio show too).

We could move into second place or tied for second place (and only one game out of first place) with a win against MTSU and if: Western Kentucky knocks off Ark State, South Alabama beats Louisiana-Monroe, and Florida Int beats New Orleans. 2/3 have a real shot (WKU and USA). Who knows, maybe FIU will surprise us. Then again, none of this matters if we can't beat a very hot MTSU road team (5-0 in SBC road conference games) tonight. See y'all at the game tonight. Let's get really rowdy!

Daily Are Saddened By The Upcoming Changes To Fry Street
chrisfisher replied to WIFE2HOT4U's topic in Mean Green Football
Sorry... no love loss here. That area is historic, but in the bad sense (maybe archaic is a better word). Most of the business there are run down and dirty looking. I believe this new development comes at a perfect time given all the fantastic changes going on at UNT including a new football coach, new football team (recruits are piling in!), new football stadium, a new president, an improved (hopefully) basketball team, etc. I'm sure others can add to this list of great new things going on. UNT appears to be headed for big changes on so many different levels, and I wholeheartedly welcome all of these. -
Lord knows we all gripe about everything around here so I thought I'd point out something very positive about our FAU win. For the game, FAU shot 46% on 2's, 50% on 3's, and nearly 60% on free throws. Those type of numbers are very respectable and typically garner wins. Why then the big final score disparity in NT's favor? Although we only averaged in mid 40% for both 2's and 3's, and 73% on free throws overall, our second half output was outstanding: 60% for 2's, 70% on 3's, and 84% on free throws. WOW! Keep mind also we achieved this with a struggling KD. When you put up these kind of stats, there is little your opponent can do, except to try to match or exceed the output. We basically did to FAU what the Arkansas teams did to us. I really hope we keep this up for tonight's game.

Sorry E. I really want to make one, but I get out of class at 5:50 and then have a patient from 6:00 - 7:00. I am running straight over to the game after my patient!

Check in the area the front cash registers (right by the stairs going into the book store). They always have Mean Green gear discounted 20-50% off. It is not always easily visible so you have to look for it. It often includes t-shirts, hats, jackets, etc.

Interview Dd, They (nt) Tried To Kill Me, When That
chrisfisher replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I haven't read the article (which I have no plans too), but if it is true what he is saying (and I have no reason to doubt Emmit), then Dickey is acting like an idiot. And that is actually a pretty serious charge he leveled at UNT too. The bottom line is that DD couldn't deal with the OOC challenges that UNT put before him due to a crappy attitude, crappy recruiting, and even crappier "coaching." Dodge knew about the next season's OOC schedule including games against OU, welcomed the challenge, and took the job anyway. Dodge has confidence that he can compete at any level, while DD feels he can only compete against sub-par teams. Good riddance DD.
