  1. Quoner - I know that these are your friends; however, if you take a look at the posts over the basketball season, you'd find out whose was getting kicked in the nuts. We were repeatedly told by your friends that we are just idiot, naive students with no understanding of sports and that our team is headed down the drain (and that we're just too stupid to realize it). It did not happen. In fact, the opposite did. Moreover, after our lousy Arkansas road trip, the propheteers of negativity were so busy head hunting for JJ as well as anyone that didn't agree with them, they failed to recognize that our team was playing very good ball and would eventually go on to a 12-5 record (after this road trip) plus get the first NCAA tourney birth in 20 years, achieve the best record in school history, and set a single season 3 point record. I could go on. Personally, I think their anger towards JJ got the best of them given that even "naive" students could see that this team was obviously very special. Finally, I seriously doubt I have ever called anyone a bad fan, but if I did that was not right and I apologize in advance. I have, however, pointed out that those calling for JJ's head seemed to show more frequently after loss and had little to say after a win.
  2. Ebone, you were wrong about this team and our coach. Deal with it.
  3. We'll never see eye to eye, and I'm OK with that. Sorry, but Jonnie is part of the team, and posters were calling for his head since the middle of season. I can always count on you for post such as this. All of JJ's "blunders" put us at 23-10 and a NCAA tourny birth (zero progress??). BTW, we've been hot since the middle of the season after the Arkansas road loses. You just failed to see it.
  4. Actually what they said was that we are definitely the most athletic team in the Sunbelt, and one the most athletic teams they have seen all year (i.e. in the nation). They went to say that low seeded teams that give higher seeded teams problems always have 2 characteristics: (1) athleticism (2) senior guards, which they went on to point out that we have both.
  5. Thanks NT03. I got beaten up on the board pretty good since the last 1/2 of the season for being a new, "naive" Meen Green sports fan that did know his arse from his hand. So much so, I actually took a 4 week hiatas from the board until this last week. I knew I saw something in this team and JJ and just couldn't believe the posters that were dogging our team and anyone that expressed support for them. Hopefully, your thread will start to reunite all Mean Green fans, alumni and students, as we head into the NCAA tourny.
  6. Already had 3 shots... had to celebrate... :D
  7. Damn I'm proud of our team! I have to get up in the morning at 4:00am to study for 2 midterms tests I take tomorrow... I don't know how I am going to get to sleep! GO MEAN GREEN! FINISH!
  8. :D
  9. women's game is over.. looks like our game might start on time tonight.
  10. I have the stomach butterflies myself... I hope the Mean Green are extra pissed off by Ark States snatching victory from us a few week ago at home... pay back time.
  11. On ESPN.com, in the scoreboard area, it has it listed also as ESPN2: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard?confId=27
  12. someone said there was a women's game before ours at 6:00pm. Are you sure you are not getting the Eastern and Central time zones mixed up??
  13. There is now a news headline for tonight's game on the front page of www.unt.edu ... the power of GOMEANGREEN.com and its fans! I have to say that these folks in the UNT admin are consistently a little late to the game, pun intended. Often I'd get men's basketball home game email announcements this season after the game started. I know when our team plays each game, but what about the typical fan that just goes when they hear about them? They need to step up the promotions.. that's just rediculous.
  14. I'm pretty sure. I have never seen ESPN2 HD not carry something shown on ESPN2 SD (standard definition). The worst I have seen on ESPN2 HD is an upcoversion of the SD signal, which results in "near HD" quality (you get the bars on the side of the picture). My hope is that this will be a true HD quality (16x9) broadcast. Either way though, it will be on ESPN2 HD.
  15. Yes Harry - anything that is availabe on ESPN-2 is always availabe on ESPN-2 HD. It looks fantastic! I also have a 6.1 THX surround sound system that really makes me feel like I am at the game!
  16. How in the hell can you decide a team is bad after 1 game? Just plain silly. In case you haven't noticed, we are 22-10, and have a consistently top ranked national offense (always top #30, sometimes in the teens) for most of the season.
  17. Ben Bell had an excellent game. He has really stepped us his game in this tournament.
  18. Yesterday, one of our assistant coaches said that the MUTS have changed up a bit by playing a taller line up. He said that they are playing much better ball since we played (and beat) them a month ago. I am a little concerned, but believe strongly that we will readily handle them if our players maintain their intensity level plus KD gets his game back. I can't say enough about how our players have stepped things up since the tournament started. It obvious that they have their game faces on. Oh - And how 'bout that Harold Stewart!?! Where has he been all season?????????
  19. night and day difference this half! we are looking like the Mean Green that's shows up on our home court.
  20. Ya.. were playing catch around the perimeter and then jacking up a long 2 or 3. We need to stop this silly stuff and drive to basket or get it to one of our big men on the inside. Quincy is shooting 4/4 of from the field. Wonder who we should get the ball too?

  22. That's not even what I said...not by a long a shot so please remove your blinders.....every day, this basketball forum gets more and more boring...same old daily grind. I think I'm just going to stop responding to these posts....it only encourages y'all to keep this up... And sorry man, my daughter and I will enjoy being fans this season no matter how hard you try to persuade us not too.
  23. You old folks crack me up....funny post.. keep them coming... name them if you wish, but also name all the programs that tried and failed. Without even Googling (hehe), I guarantee the failed column would far exceed the Cinderella stories.
  24. What others? Name them. If you are going to do a count, you need to include all the D1 schools that have tried and failed to make their "quick turn around at the D1 level," which is basically every D1 school that had a losing season the year before. We've talked about this so many times in both the b-ball and f-ball forums. You can always find one Cinderella story here and there, but the vast majority of programs that haven't done well for many years (decades in this case) take years to turn a program around. And I really don't mind the "fire JJ" folks at all. I think it is a valid opinion based on an overall mediocre record for the past 6 years. But what I really don't care for is these folks like to visit the forum just to say "fire JJ" or to degrade those with anything positive to say. With a win, they just avoid the forum altogether or say "fire him anyway, that win wasn't good enough." They NEVER evaluate anything we are doing right in combination with criticisms of the coaching staff or players. Frankly, it gets really boring after a while. People don't want to hear the same lop-sided, completely biased view of anything, sports included. I can't recall if you are one of these folks or not that I described above, but your comments were something I've heard again and again, and hence my yawn comment. Relax. Enjoy the season. There will be plenty of time to fire him in the off season if that is what you really want. Meanwhile, enjoy our highly competitive team even in our loses.
  25. I don't understand why we made things so difficult on ourselves today. Of course, I only heard the game so I probably don't have the complete perspective. Nonetheless, here are some things I just don't understand about today's game: (1) why did we stop going to the post in the second half? (2) Why did Quincy end up with almost no points? (3) Why was Bell jacking up 3's all game, including a miss right at the end that cost us the lead and momentum (and probably the game) (4) Why was Watson sitting out so much when he was hot (5) why was KD in so much when he was ice cold (6) why did we make this game so difficult - this isn't rocket science: pass the ball to Williams and Wooden and let them battle inside, which gets us 2 points or to the free throw line (we went zero times in the first half!), which also opens up the guards to get clean shots - We have a big team - let's play like it. (6) why did we have a ton of time outs going into the final 2 minutes? I'm done ranting now.
