The season starts in a few weeks. Best I can tell there are still not any basketball posters available. They usually keep them in the UNT Student services area. I went by again yesterday, but they did not have any. Has anyone found any posters in other buildings??

If these type postings continue, I may earn my first official thread closure. I' The initial posts suggested that I was out in left field on this one. I'm glad to see that some are as perturbed as me. I don't understand why it is so hard or taboo to enact and/or enforce rules, especially for kids, these days. We are so worried that they will be offended or somehow psychological damaged in some way by rules. Asking kids to wear the appropriate attire to an official Mean Green/UNT event, or to enforce existing Mean Green Club rules (i.e. not allowing kids to sneak onto the field), is not asking too much in my opinion.
-
The kids I saw wearing the UT gear, had no visible UNT gear of any kind, including the Mean Green Kids club shirt.

I'm ready for Mean Green basketball to start.

I wasn't trying to indite the athletic department, only express my dislike of this. I know we that we should be nice to the kids and that parents might be a perturbed if there kids couldn't go onto the field... but is it really that big a deal to ask them to remove the UT hat?
-
Eagle1855. Do you really think UT would let anyone onto their home field wearing UNT gear? I don't get easily insulted or embarrassed, but I felt both watching those kids with UT gear go onto our home field. Moreover, many of our games are broadcasted on television and internet. How does that look when some members of the supposed "Mean Green Club" are outfitted in UT gear. I guess in the in end, it a matter of pride more than anything else.

Cooley - Do we need more 6'2 guards right now? We have limited scholarships available, and really need some big men for next season, or do we? Will Howerton, Odufuwa, Hogans, and Stewart suffice?
-
But this is the MEAN GREEN CLUB. How do our football players feel getting welcomed onto the field by kids with UT gear on???
-
I meant to post this after the UL-Monroe game, but forgot. My daughter is part of the Mean Green Kids Club. I go down on the field with her to form the line at the inflatable Helmet to cheer on the Mean Green onto field at the start of the 3Q. I'll be damn, but several kids that went onto the field were wearing UT gear (hats). I was appalled to say the least. I think this absolutely unacceptable and that the kids should remove the gear or not be allowed to enter the field. Am I making too big a deal of this? Or should this kind of stuff be banned? I vote for the latter.

Sun Belt Conference Is Coming On...
chrisfisher replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
And they forget that even some power house school are directional names....Take USC, for example... University of Southern California.... My friends and I do joke about schools with long ass names that involve a direction plus a state, tech, and a lengthy mascot name... like The University of Southcentral Eastern Illinois State Fighting Red Gophers The MUTS may fall into this category... -
Article from The North Texas Daily: NT basketball hopes for conference bid........Johnny Jones, head coach of the NT men's basketball team, stood solemnly on the side of the court and watched as his players took a few jump shots after their first practice on Friday night. "We're ways away from winning anything right now," Jones said, "but we're capable of getting to that NCAA tournament level of game play. We're a ways away … but we're going to get there." There was a slew of benefits that came from the NCAA tournament appearance last year. Recruiting was boosted and Jones was awarded a five-year contract extension. There are big expectations for last year's heroes of the hardwood, eight months removed from the ill-fated game against the University of Memphis, "Last year it set the bar for us," said junior guard Adam McCoy. "Now we want more. You expect to go back to the tournament and that's what we're going to do. I don't think there'll be anybody stopping us." McCoy wasn't around for the Eagles Cinderella-esque run at an NCAA tournament bid last year. While the Mean Green was in New Orleans, McCoy was a student in Mesa Community College. After the season ended, McCoy transferred to NT and is now a likely candidate for a starting position. McCoy is one of many new faces on the team this year. Of the 14 players on the roster, exactly half of them are either new to the team or new to the starting rotation. However, they have experience where it's most needed. Three of last year's five starters return this year: senior guard Ben Bell, senior forward Keith Wooden and senior forward Quincy Williams. The three have a combined 90 total starts, 2,653 minutes of playing time and 754 points scored. All in all, they accounted for about 30 percent of the total offensive production last season. Everything else came off the stellar play of now-graduated Kendrick Davis and Calvin Watson. "We got three guys that are back, we feel we have a great nucleus of guys that are returning that played very valuable minutes for us last year," Jones said. "At the same time, we did a good job of going out and recruiting and getting those guys that are going to do well with the type of basketball we play. "Should injury or bad fortune befall one of the starters, there is talent waiting at the end of the bench. New blood has been imported from the Bayou. Among the new, talented recruits is freshman guard Josh White. White attended Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge, La., and was named a three-time Louisiana All-State selection at point guard for Christian Life. He was also named the 10th-best player in the state of Louisiana by Rivals.com. He has been part of two national and eight state championships in club and high school competition. The downside? He's only 5'10'', giving him the label as the shortest player on the team. The team roams the Super Pit with a high work ethic and even higher expectations. Even so, they keep in mind that nothing will be handed to them. "The level of intensity our guys are playing with at this point in the season is astonishing," Jones said. "They're putting forth the effort. We're executing new things that we put in. For the first practice, I was proud that we were looking as smooth as we did."

Sun Belt Conference Is Coming On...

I agree and share your excitement about the SBC. I have seen major momentum build over the past 3 seasons. Unfortunately that momentum has been with other Belt teams, as when I arrived at UNT, we went on our losing steaks. I am really hopeful that Dodge will turn that around. Anyway, in terms of football, I think the SBC is very close to CUSA (though they have the upper hand in Basketball). The SBC has made major MONUMENTAL strides in its short football history. Like the SBC commish said, when this football thing started out, he could only ask, "Will this even work?" Now he asks, "How far can we take this?" -
Ouch. We really need Bush. Nurudeen has looked pretty good though, and I've wondered why he hasn't played more...

I vote for the administrators to ban any post that includes the words "Dickey was right."

Who Predicted Less Than 10,000 In Attendance?
chrisfisher replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Got back from the game a little while ago... I thought the student section was pretty rowdy, though I saw more people sitting than I would like... I am re-watching the game on ESPN360 and we actually sound pretty good on TV... I didn't realize just how rowdy we got during the game... Great win all around!!!! We really needed this in so many ways..... -
ESPN360.com has a great video/audio quality broadcast. For those that cannot make Mean Green game tonight, check out ESPN360.com GO MEAN GREEN!

Did you mean to say that Odufuwa and Wooden were actually fighting?? Or just playing hard?

Basketball: Unt Ready To Get Back On The Court
chrisfisher replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I can't tell everyone how excited I am about this upcoming basketball season. We are loaded with talent. I hope they gel well. I know my daughter wishes the season would start too... everyone morning I remind her how many more days until we go to our first b-ball game of the season -
Odufuwa may have grown since his 6'5 or 6'7 listing (depending where you look)... take a close look... he is nearly as tall as 6'10" Howerton.... I heard Magrum beefed up.... his face/neck looks like a damn football player now...
