  1. I heard people complain about Sargarin, and I think understand now.... Granted we moved up 80 slots to get to our current ranking of 100. But how in the hell does Oklahoma at 1-1 including a LOSS TO US, end up at at #81???? We are undefeated and have a SOS over 2x as difficult (#118 vs #261). I can't imagine how it is justified that OSU is ahead of us.... while I'm at it, Western Kentucky sits at 1-0 with an SOS of #313 and gets ranked #78. Again, with the exact same record, a 9 point win against previous Top 50 competition (OSU), and a SOS of #118, we somehow end up at #100. Makes no sense to me...
  2. I am worried about a potential let down too... however, with our bench being so deep, playing time is going to be fierce... if someone isn't getting it done, there is another guard waiting to take his spot...
  3. I have been very concerned with our post situation for 2008. However, Harold Stewart really seems to be coming into this own. I watched him grow (figuratively speaking) leaps and bound toward the end of last season in the Sunbelt tournament. Based on his play toward the end of last season and so far this year, I think that he will make a fantastic replacement for either Wooden or Williams. Assuming the George Odufuwa is all he is stacked up to be, we'll be just fine with Odufuwa (6'8") and Stewart (6'8") in starting post position roles, with Howerton playing limited back up minutes. It is too early to analyze potential contributions, if any, by Knox next season. Kendrick Hogans appears to be a formidable big man, but maybe slightly undersized.... though he makes up for it will aggressive defense.
  4. My absolute favorite thing from last night.... the sign of a great team is the ability to find ways to win even when they do not play their best ball. Truth be told, we play good basketball last night... not great basketball. Our guards, excluding Josh White, really struggled with their shots. Nonetheless, we played hard nosed, gritty, go straight to the ball defense, super fast transition offense, and got the ball into the hands of our two on-fire scorers for the night, Josh White and Keith Wooden. Moreover, we played unselfish ball as evidenced by the team knowing who was hot (White and Wooden) and going to them again and again. I am so excited that we beat a very good OSU team and put up 84 points not playing our best ball. I cannot imagine what kind of numbers we'll have when we fire on all cylinders. My hope is that everything comes together for the UT game. What a win that would be. We have the talent to pull off the upset, but the team will have to play to the limit of their abilities for the full 40 minutes.
  5. We ranked #11 in the nation! Our RPI ranking is tied with 3 other schools for #11. Nice! Stats can be found here.
  6. CBL.... I think we both agree that our concerns over White's height are unfounded. He was one the most productive players on the court tonight. I really thought that Josh would find a way to perform even when outmatched in size and weight.... I think Josh just earned his starting position on the team tonight....
  7. When you have a 5'9" point guard, he is almost always going to be a mismatch against our opponents' guards. I noted the smaller line up (versus previous years) in one of my initial overviews of this team. Triston is the only (active) guard over 6'4" and he is only a buck eighty five. Josh White undoubtedly has faced this mismatch throughout his career, and hopefully has learned how to deal with this effectively. This size issue with be with us throughout the season, and will require stellar play from our smaller guards... Lastly, I wondered in an earlier post if we'd see this White/Bell combo in starting roles as we did against Cameron. I guess JJ liked what he saw and may go with it. I think I'd rather see White or Bell and McCoy start. Also, minor point, but Hogans is 6'7' no t 6'6" .... Wouldn't be great if Hogans could some time at the guard spot if we have problems? I don't know that he has the outside shot though.
  8. November 13, 2007 A big opportunity for UNT tomorrow The North Texas men's basketball team will be in the spotlight again tomorrow, just a few months after it represented the program -- not to mention the university -- so well during the NCAA Tournament. This time around UNT will take on Oklahoma State at the Super Pit in a rare home game against a big-name nonconference opponent. This is the type of opportunity every mid-major program dreams about. If UNT plays well, it could provide a big lift in terms of respect in the college hoops world. And respect always pays off when it comes to recruiting and fans. This will be a tough matchup for UNT. OSU is big and athletic at all five spots. The key will be the way the Mean Green plays on the perimeter. Keith Wooden and Quincy Williams held their own against Memphis in the NCAA Tournament and have the ability to do the same against OSU. If UNT's guards get hot, the Mean Green could hang with the Cowboys. Collin Dennis is my guess for UNT's player to watch. Dennis has experience from his days at South Florida playing teams like OSU. If Dennis plays well, the rest of UNT's young guards could fall in line and give the Mean Green hope in a game it could have a chance of winning. Posted by Brett Vito
  9. Sorry Admins.... I didn't realize I was in the football forums when I read this...
  10. I just checked Sagarin. OSU is ranked #41 in the country. I know this doesn't mean as much early in the season as the teams jump all over the rankings as the wins/loses start to come in, but at this point, a win tonight will be against an opponent ranked in Top 50 in the nation.
  11. Why'd y'all move this? This is directly related to Mean Green basketball, and the article even references us throughout? Oh well....
  12. Here's a scenario I don't think anyone has considered..... What about Vizza and Riley BOTH playing? Dodge is crazy enough to do this... Vizza has already shown he can run the ball like a full back.... you can put Riley and Vizza lined up in shotgun... no one will know which QB is going to get the snap....and you have tons of options... Vizza can pass to Riley running out of the back field, Riley can motion and become a receiver, Vizza can run the ball right up the gut or block for Riley when he passes, etc.......talk about a dual threat QB situation....it would be the quadruple threat QB.....probably will never happen, but it was one scenario I dreamed up....
  13. Final Score: Denver beats Wyoming 76-65. Western Kentucky over KY Wesleyan 88-67. 4 OOC Sunbelt games tonight 3 wins 1 loss, but 2 were non-D1A. So we went 1-1 with a win against the Mountain West and a loss to the SEC.
  14. South Alabama goes down 81-78. Damn, that would have been a nice OOC win for the Belt against the SEC..... Denver is up 35-24 over Wyoming at halftime. Western Kentucky securely ahead 83-65 with about 2 minutes left.
  15. Apparently the ESPN tickers are very behind... get this... South Alabama could pull this one out! S. Ala is up over Mississippi by 5 (78-73) with a minute and half left in the game!
  16. South Alabama is within 9 points of Mississippi with 6 minutes left in the game. Given they were down nearly 20 points at half time, they have done a good job to pull back into the game.
  17. South Alabama is pulling back into the game with 12 minutes left it is 48-58 Mississippi. Western Kentucky is up 8 with 16 minutes left. Denver is killing Wyoming and is up 21-5 with 11 minutes left in the 1rst half.
  18. OK. I'm bored and passing time until our Wed game against OSU.......Western Kentucky apparently has its hands full with KY Wesleyan (who?) as they are only up by 1 at the half (46-45). LaMonroe won their game against Northern Michigan. South Alabama is playing Mississippi and is down 54-36 with 17 minutes left in the second half. Denver and Wyoming start up soon.
  19. Not alot of talk? They do not know what is about to hit them....their forum will light up after their defeat.....
  20. It seems that we are all very high on the new recruits. We saw them dominate in our opening 2 games against powder-puff competition. We have not seen how they perform under adversity and real game time competition. I look forward to seeing just how good our new recruits (and of course, veteran players) are against legitimate competition in Oklahoma State. I sure hope we win this one.
  21. My daughter and I are in. I'm trying to get a couple of other students to go too.
  22. So is the Dec 5th game, Mean Green Vs. UT, on television??
  23. I didn't realize that... I've been calling Kedrick, Kendrick since we signed him.... thanks..
