New Orleans wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Going down to the wire... 62-61 New Orleans with 14 seconds left!
-
43-40 NCS with 10 minutes left in the 2nd half. Go New Orleans! It would nice if they can beat a nationally ranked team so when we jack New Orlean's arse up this season, it will look ever better on our resume.

It is on channel 46 on Verizon.

One correction: Apparently, Williams had a great rebounding day (19 rounds), which suggest his play was better than "good" given in my analysis. Of course, at the game, we don't have access to individual stats, though I did notice Quincy pulled down quite few rebounds. But I certainly had no idea he had almost 20 rebounds. Great game Quincy!!

I have followed UNT basketball religiously since 2005 (when I started my graduate program). I agree that this is the best team since 05 and trust your judgment on the 40 year thing. Last season, we had a really good team with our starters....granted Rich Young was steady, but Sturns was erratic. However, on the 2007 team nearly any guard on the bench can put up big time numbers, and Stewart is really contributing now. I recently posted a thread named "Our bench is deeeeeeeep" and I believe what I said in the that post more than ever after our last 2 games. I am not sure if you are directly speaking to me about coming to basketball games this season... but I have only missed 2-4 homes games in 3 years. Student turn out has been better than I have seen it in the last 3 years. I hope this continues. In terms of the refs, they refused to call an offensive charges; moreover, they'd call phantom fouls on our post guys even if they simply put their hands directly up in the air. I mean if you can't do that then you might as well just give them the shot.

One of my biggest concerns was answered in this article: "Dennis twisted his ankle late in the game, but said he would be fine in the post-game press conference." Dennis appeared to limp very hard after the twist. I hope Dennis is really OK, and not just saying that... we really need his great offensive and defensive effort. I think he will turn into something special.

Funny, even the reporter mentioned how bad the officiating was for both teams.
-
I have started to believe the Harold Stewart can provide this much needed depth.

Go ahead... get excited... its contagious and you'll have more fun.....

CMJ.... I did see a little of this... we were not as sharp today as a team. Luckily, we did what we had too to win.

I didn't figure in shoes for me or Josh, so you can add 1 inch to my figures with shoes.
-
Oh - I almost forgot. My daughter and I hung around for autographs. I want to settle the controversy over Josh White's height once and for all. As my daughter got his signature I stood right next to him. I looked down slightly to him. I am 5'9.5" give or take a half inch. My best guess is that White is in 5'7" range, give or take an inch.

Official attendance is 2531... I doubt that... maybe the good student turn out helped more than I realized....

Probably a 1000, 1500 max.

I just got back from the game... a few comments/observations... good student turn out.... I am very, very disappointed in the lame ass season ticket holders/general public.... they need to waddle their asses into the Super Pit for EVERY GAME...... no excuses.......Our boys played good ball, not great ball. Our intensity dropped toward the end of the 2nd half and could have cost us if we didn't have such a big lead, but then again it may have never dropped if the score was closer....... The officiating was HORRIBLE....... We seem to find ways to win even when not playing our best ball and somehow put up 70, 80 or more points in the process. Not doubt our best performances are yet to come......We had problems with the full court press at times........McCoy continues to struggle with his shot. He appears to be trying to hard, and over shoots the basket even from close range....... White was very steady and had a good game. Wooden and Williams played decent ball, but not there best. In the first half, and some of the second half, the Pit Crew was relentless on the Indiana State bench and coaches... believe me, it got personal.....awesome! Dennis had a GREAT game! My biggest fear is that Dennis may have (re)injured an ankle. He limped severely for many minutes. I sure hope he is healthy by the UT game..... that's all I can think of now......

I was rewatching the game this morning on ESPN360. The OSU announcers called the Super Pit a "Snake Pit." I think I remember reading someone saying that use to be the name of our old b-ball facility... is this correct? Pretty cool comment...

I think the NCAA tournament appearance briefly captured the media's attention to our team. The win against OSU not only grabbed their attention, but raised a few eyebrows. The time is NOW to SEIZE their attention with a big time win against Indiana State and a a very good Missouri Valley Conference. The next 5 games against Indiana State, UTA, Western New Mexico, and New Mexico State are very winnable games. Not to put the horse before the carriage, but if we can win out in these next 5, and then upset University of Texas, we'd be 7-0 with a win over a nationally ranked program. I smell a potential Top 30 national ranking (assuming UT is still ranked when we play them).

Actually, the answer to your question is in your thread heading.... "consistency." You can't win one big OOC game and expect to be treated as if you deserved it. When was the last time we won a game against the Big12? Probably 4 years go or more against Baylor. Last year we had some nice OOC wins, for example, Charlotte, and then lost the next week to UTA and further faltered during conference play. Once we win on a regular basis, we will earn their respect and acknowledged as the better team after a win. Until then, we'll have to endure those type of comments. Truth is, we had a big win this season against a quality opponent in OSU, but if we lose to "lesser" OOC opponents or do not now dominate Sunbelt conference play, the win will be for not, at least in eyes of the basketball public. The win against the Big 12 will be defined simply as a fluke. The key, my friend, is consistency. A problem that plagues most Sunbelt teams.

I second the unbiasedness of the OSU announcers... They called an awesome game. They did their homework (at least for announcers of an opposing team) and talked very favorably about our players, JJ, and his system. They mentioned that JJ is close to putting Mean Green basketball on the national map. To tell you the truth, I enjoyed listening to the OSU announcers more than I have the Sunbelt announcers (for football). They were extremely balanced in their analysis, called all of our players by their right names, and new some history of our program. They did call us the Eagles all night as some posters pointed out; however, when you have a big eagle mascot on the court coupled an eagle emblem on most things and known as the Mean Green Eagles, I think it was perfectly acceptable (though different to hear our team called the Eagles all game).

(insert favorite sarcastic remark here), when we beat UT, we might be "fortunate" enough to break into the Top 50....
-
Let's hope that this not the case... I sure hope not, but we'll find out tomorrow.
-
It was a team effort no doubt, but numerous players played limited minutes.....and I bet are chomping at the bit to get out there and perform. Quincy played 14 minutes, Triston 14 minutes, McCoy 7 minutes, and Hogans 7 minutes. Even Collin only played 20 minutes. I doubt that these guys are mentally or physically fatigued, and that is a heck of line up right there: Quincy, Triston, McCoy, Hogans, and Dennis. And Josh White is a firecracker and will be ready to play... Anyhow, I certainly hope we do not have a team wide let down, and I don't think we will because of our depth...

Thanks for the write up Cooley.... Your game time score prediction?
