12 minutes in the first half....

ULL is beating UNO 17-8 with 12 minutes left... I can't decide who I want to win this... Assuming we win out, should we hope that ULL wins all but us, we should be in a tie with ULL... with us taking them both games, I think we'd get the tie breaker.... on the other hand, we can't seem to beat UNO so do we want ULL to beat them tonight???

We need this road win badly! ULM has been playing much better ball lately. This won't be an easy win...

A key match up is tomorrow: UNO vs ULL. I'm not sure who to root for. Looking ahead in their schedules, I can think of various scenarios where a loss by either team is beneficial. I guess I want UNO to lose b/c I think we can take care of business with ULL and can't seem to beat UNO... on the other hand, ULAR is a game up on us and UNO still needs to play USA on the road and us at home....plenty of other opportunities for UNO to lose... so, Go UNO (versus ULL)! Of course, none of this matters if we don't win on Wednesday.

One more thing... I bet Sunbelt officials privately hope that we don't go and screw up the potential for 2 Sunbelt teams in the NCAA tourny... I hope we are a spoiler in the SBC conference tourny!! 1 team and 1 team only is going to the NCAA tourny..... UNT Mean Green!!!

Are you sure? We would be 22-9 or 23-9 with some decent OOC wins.... teams always beat each other up in conference play....I suspect there are other teams with weaker schedules and poorer records....

Luckily the season doesn't end today b/c I am stilling looking out for a first round bye for the Mean Green....we have as good a chance as any team in the West.

You may be right... I don't know... It just seemed to me that Troy made zero adjustments and several people I spoke with at the game agreed. The full court press didn't even work in the final 5 minutes when we emptied the bench....

The final score: 90-64. We beat them by almost 30 points. How can you say the full court press worked? Are you saying without a press we would have won by 50? I'm not saying they shouldn't have used it, but when it was apparent it wasn't as effective, I'd have stopped or tried something else. Sure, it disrupted our offense a couple of times... but, by and far, we played through it and got many easy shot opportunities b/c Troy was so out of position. I am certainly no coach, but from my perspective, Troy was banging their head against a wall over and over and over and over.............................

Where does it say he has a good chance of getting the job... the writer says that he thinks he does NOT have a good chance.... Am I missing something?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Dez, though I miss him. We never had a stable guard rotation and I think that hurt us... it was a rotation based on more "what have you done for me lately." I think shooters need time to meld into their roles and the game and it is tough starting 1 game, sitting the next, play 35 minutes 1 game and 10 min the next, etc. I've been a big Kedrick fan too. He may have struggled last night offensively, but when he does shoot, he shoots at a high percentage (50%-60%). Where he REALLY struggles is the free throw line (20-30%). We have a legitimate shot at the West title and first game bye... but we'll have to do it on the road... something I'll have to see to believe....

West Conference Race - remaining games for teams still in the hunt Mean Green ULM, Ark State, ULL, UNO ULAR ASU, ULL, Denver, ULM ULL UNO, UALR, UNT, Denver UNO ULL, Denver, USA, UNT Denver MTSU, UNO, UALR, ULL Bolded = home game. ULL looks to have the advantage with 3/4 home games. Denver appears to have the toughest schedule with 3 games against the best in the West and 1 game against a strong MTSU. UNO's schedule is no cup cake either with games against the top West teams plus South Alabama. Mean Green's biggest problem is that 3/4 games are on the road - they are all winnable given our talent level, but it is really a question of which road team will show up...Mean Green needs to learn how to win consistently on the road or will quickly fall behind in this race...

Off-topic a bit... probably a question for the admins.... Hook'em was the 8,514 person to register... but why does the main board stats say we only have 3500 members or something like that?

From one grad student to another.... welcome aboard!

I have a feeling that Denver will soon be a non-factor in the West race... they still have to play UNO, ULAR, MTSU, and ULL... what a schedule. I hope that ULL beats UNO. To tell the truth, I'd just rather not have to play UNO again or in the tourny... they seem to be our achilles heel for some reason...who knows, maybe this will be the year we beat them....

The one thing that I was amazed at was Troy's lack of offensive or defensive adjustments the entire game.. They appear to know how to do 2 things: shoot the 3 and apply full court pressure. The 3 wasn't dropping and Mean Green quickly adjusted to the press. This didn't seem to bother Troy. They just kept on with the press and the 3 regardless of whether it worked or not. I wouldn't be surprised if their head coach gets kicked to the curb at the end of this season. That was one of the worst coaching jobs I've seen in some time. I like that we got a full game of the press too b/c it gave us some great practice in an area that we use to struggle with.

White has really struggled with his shot the past 2 games.... I hope he gets it back together for the upcoming road games.... we need his scoring on the road!

Great game all around... we needed a big confidence booster going into the final stretch of the regular season... we're still in the hunt for the West Conference Championship....

SBC West games of interest this Saturday: UNO visits ULAR, ULL travels to Ark State, and Denver plays at ULM. All 3 of these games could go either way....ULM has been playing better ball and Denver is really bad on the road. Who knows with the other games with each teams' on again off again play. Let's hope for UNO, Ark State, and ULM wins. Of course, none of this matters if we don't beat Troy on Saturday.
