  1. It seems that the hiring of a new, presumably good, coach always brings initial excitement from the fans, and most importantly, from recruits. It appears the Stephans' will have a very good recruiting season. I know I'll go to more women's games this year. But let's hope that this translates to immediate wins so that this initial excitement continues into the next recruiting season. If the the girls lay an egg their first season this could all change quickly.
  2. Good god man, your blatent enthusiam is out of control! This is NOT acceptable. Please know that doom and gloom certainly awaits us, especially if we do not change conferences or have a new stadium in 2 years. welcome friend....
  3. You are a proud Pappa, and rightfully so.... very cute baby.... congratulations!
  4. Awesome! Congratulations! Let the no sleeping begin!
  5. Congratulations to Courtney Lee! He's officially in the big time now. He just signed a 4 year contract for 6 million with the first 2 years guaranteed. Wow! Great news for Lee and the SBC. You can get drafted and play in the NBA if you work hard in the SBC! The story is here and includes the video interview of Lee's reaction to the signing.
  6. I hope Bo makes it. It at least he now has a shot. It appears he is getting some playing time (8 minutes) each game. I'd love to see another SBC player make an NBA roster. You can find Bo's player page here.
  7. We play UTA on Monday, Dec 29. UTA schedule is here.
  8. Without a doubt, the Central Grill burger combo. Best burger in town! Their hamburger bun is awesome too! Very nice folks run the restaurant. Additionally, they have Mean Green jerseys, flags, signed/unsigned pictures (from current and past UNT athletes) and other memorabilia from various UNT sports hanging across the wall and ceiling.
  9. TCU can run, but they can't hide. I sure hope we play 'em and whip their arse.
  10. True, but I've already considered your points when when making my prediction. Recall that we made gobs and gobs of yards and completions with players recruited for a run-based offense and with a freshman quarterback. Enter a bad-ass season of wide receiver recruits, plus a few other gold nugget recruits on both sides of the ball, the return of Cam Montgomery, a talented defensive coordinator that presumably can put at bare minimum a D-1 level defense, and fierce competition at the QB sport, ala the younger Dodge, and this, to me, adds up to a 6-6 season or better.... 6-6 - expected, 7-5 exceeds expectations (though not likely), 8-4 Green Koolaid for a week.
  11. Nice, balanced review. Actually fairly consistent with many of the opinions around here. I know I'm in the minority, but I think we have a minimum 6-6 season, mostly because of an offense that puts up tons of points (as opposed to our defensive efforts).
  12. They should have put that "pony up" logo with that stupid arrow.
  13. Damn. We finally beat UNO and Bo McCalebb, and now we have a new thorn in our side. Just kidding... glad to see the SBC continuing to attract top talent. With UNT, UNO, WKU, ULAR, and USA playing strong basketball, this is really turning into a league that OOC teams do not want to play.
  14. I want to revise my earlier sorry-ass analysis to account for Tramiel and Knox..... it should read something like this now: It appears this the upcoming season could be a tale of extremes in regard to our guards: big guards (McCoy 6'4", Thompson 6'5", Mangrum 6'5") leading the charge and undersized point guards (White 5'8" and Johnson 5'10") directing the floor. At 6'2", I think Dennis qualifies as an undersized guard though he holds his own in weight at 185lb. I know we have plenty of fire power in our guards. I think the season hinges on play from our forwards in Odufuwa, Stewart, Hogans, and Trammiel. The center position, a former strength via Wooden, will not likely be a source of major production given the freshman "project player" signing in Knox, though Howerton's play really picked up last season and I expect that he will contribute some quality minutes off the bench.
  15. That was my screw up, not CBL. I'm just glad to get some Men's basketball chat going again even though it probably useless talk until we know more about our recruits and schedule.
  16. The 2008-2009 Men's Basketball Roster is now up. No major surprises. The roster lists 11 players. I know that Jeff Montague will not return so that brings us down to 10 players. However, Eric Trammiel and Dominique Johnson are curiously missing and with their addition that will bring the roster to 12 players. Shawn Forrest has also been added in the coaches section. It appears this the upcoming season could be a tale of extremes in regard to our guards: big guards (McCoy 6'4", Thompson 6'5", Mangrum 6'5", Trammiel 6'7") leading the charge and undersized point guards (White 5'8" and Johnson 5'10") directing the floor. At 6'2", I think Dennis qualifies as an undersized guard though he holds his own in weight at 185lb. I know we have plenty of fire power in our guards. I think the season hinges on post play from Odufuwa, Stewart, Hogans, and to a lesser extent Howerton. A few other tidbits. November can't get here soon enough. I am very eager to see our new recruits play. I am also excited about the return of Mangrum. I think he could develop into a very good guard, and notice that he has grown an inch since last year. Besides, any decent basketball team needs an mop-top white boy. Lastly, I've had the opportunity to talk with Jeff Montague on several occasions. It turns out he works in the same building/department where I see patients. Jeff is a friendly and talkative guy. He told me that he will not play in the 2008-2009 season due to the expectation that he could not get much playing time. It's too bad because I like classy athletes like Jeff to represent the Mean Green, but I completely understand the difficulty of putting in that much work with little chance of playing time. I wish Jeff the best in his endeavors and thank him for the hard work he gave the Mean Green last season.
  17. Yep, in hindsight it was indeed a rhetorical question.
  18. CBL, any comments on this hire? Bios also look impressive, which Forrest's does. But, is this really a good hire?
  19. What I like most about this is that SBC coaches can point to Lee when recruiting high level players and basically say, "in addition to playing prime time minutes on our team, if you work hard in our conference NBA recruiters will notice and you can go to the NBA."
  20. Former Arkansas State coach. Sounds like a good hire. Details are here.
