UNTflyer replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Regulation AND deregulation of banks and lenders, along with threats from the Clinton Justice Department and encouragement from the Bush White House, pushed a lot of the mega-banks to lower credit standards and income requirements to buy a home. Some financial instiutions were fearful of subprime mortgages, others went overboard and convinced people working at McDonald's that they could buy a 300k McMansion with no money down and payments of $500 a month. The borrowers signed the papers without thinking it through, getting into exotic mortgages they had no business signing. There is lots of blame to go around - greed on Wall Street, AND greed on Main Street. But the housing crisis is just a symptom of the problem of lack of disclosure on Wall Street. If we need any kind of new regulation, its in reporting requirements and transparency. And the biggest problem right now is that politicians are trying to offer quick fixes to prevent hitting the economic bottom. If we had allowed corporations to fail in 2008 rather than bailing them out, we could be in full recovery by now. -
I still don't understand everyone's fascination with UTSA. Attendance is bad enough playing schools called Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Florida International. It makes the whole league sound like Division III. And I really don't understand the call to invite Louisiana-Lafayette to CUSA with us. We want our next conference to be an upgrade. And if we stay in the Belt, for God's sake let's try to expand with the two closest WAC teams (NMSU and LA Tech) that don't sound like a glorified community college.
-
If MWC is going to kill the WAC by taking Utah State and SJSU, we can get LA Tech and New Mexico State. And consider, would UTEP be willing to come to the Belt if they can get conference games in Las Cruces and a Texas rivalry in Dallas? We don't need UTSA yet. We have a lot of options left before needing to consider calling up an FCS program.

We Don't Need Greek Quitters
UNTflyer replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The problem is that the Greeks are more interested in drinking their ouzo on The Hill than making any kind of strenuous effort to come to the games. Greece - home of the 30-hour work week!! -
Utah State: All time record: 487-501-31 Record over past few years: 2005: 3-8 2006: 1-11 2007: 2-10 2008: 3-9 2009: 4-8 2010: 4-8 It's in friggin' Logan, Utah. 50,000 people and is in the #32 media market already split between BYU and Univ. of Utah. I don't get it.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8846201/Debt-crisis-live.html The Greek Prime Minister will resign, report says, after a split over holding a referendum on staying in the euro. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/BUSINESS/06/21/euro.greece/index.html How would quitting the euro affect the Greeks?

That would violate the spirit of the Alliance if MWC raided CUSA.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7177969/big-east-invite-six-football-according-report Meanwhile, a conference commissioner source said that there is serious panic within the MWC and C-USA about possibly losing key members of both leagues to the Big East. C-USA could survive losing Houston, SMU and UCF to the Big East since it would be down to nine schools. But if the MWC were to lose Boise State and Air Force, then it would be down to eight members in football (seven in all sports) and likely would pounce on the WAC's Utah State and San Jose State to replace those two schools.
-
Too busy to read through all the posts to see if this point has been made... But all of the realignment talk has been focused on conferences we didn't have a prayer of getting in to. Now realignment talk is starting to focus on CUSA, and I've already seen some suggestions on message boards that we would be a good candidate. Wait until CUSA actually announces they are looking to backfill, which won't come until SMU and Houston officially leave.

Unfortunately, Harry puts a limit on the number of pictures in threads, otherwise I could post thousands of signs demonstrating the overwhelming socialist message coming from OWS. I will say this - I was pleasantly surprised to see Alec Baldwin made the case for capitalist markets at the OWS rally. I was not quite as surprised to learn that he was dismissed by the protestors as just an old-guard liberal defending his Capital One commercial contract. -

*shrug* It neither helps nor hurts their cause. I think there is far too much focus on what some do and far too little focus on what most of them want. -
Breakdown of Potential CUSA Expansion Candidates
UNTflyer replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
As I pointed out on this thread, our average home attendance vs C-USA teams is about 24,500. -
Commissioners from the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA are scheduled to meet with the head of the Big East Conference today to discuss the formation of one 28- to 32-football team super conference in an effort to gain automatic Bowl Championship Series status. http://www.lvrj.com/sports/mountain-west-conference-usa-officials-to-talk-to-big-east-chief-about-joining-forces-132528493.html

The original statement was: And I don't care what the AM dial tells you, no individual can, simply by pulling up his boot straps, go from having nothing to becoming one of those guys. If we are talking about the uber-rich, the multi-billionaires, they are by definition "outliers." There are 1200 billionaires in the world. The original statement was that nobody can go from nothing to a bazillionaire in this country, and the reply was just a few examples of those who have. In fact, Forbes magazine said almost 2/3 of the world's billionaires started from nothing! http://www.forbes.com/2007/06/22/billionaires-gates-winfrey-biz-cz_ts_0626rags2riches.html -

Then you are choosing to ignore it. Advancement of socialist policies is the only consistent and overwhelming message being heard from OWS. I don't see how you can deny the socialist message coming from these people: (The haunting music is a bit over the top, but just hear what they are saying about capitalism, distributing wealth, and setting some kind of maximum wage. -

Is reading comprehension a problem? "I get the fact that these protests are MOSTLY comprised of the same old tired pro-socialist/communist brain-washed youth." and "THEY don't even know what their agenda is. It's all over the place. Some are socialists, some are communists, some are regular Americans trying to make their lives better, and some are just kids with nothing better to do." I try to make an effort to avoid making blanket statements. Sorry, the extremely rare racist sign at the Tea Party rallies are far outnumbered by the very common pro-socialist message of OWS. I understand the difference between socialism and communism - the overwhelming message of signs at the OWS is pro-socialist. And I've heard far more racism out of the OWS rallies (anti-semitic rants about Jews controlling all the money) than I've heard come out of Tea Party rallies. But I'm not a Tea Party person anyways. I'm a Republican. -
