  1. Days like today are exactly why it doesn't happen.
  2. At this point, there is no amount or form of criticism or ridicule that is not appropriate
  3. Yep. Thanks for the degrees, UNT. I'll go back to being a fan of my childhood team, the Florida Gators. If you ever get serious about being a competitive university in the field of athletics, I might be back. But don't hold your breath.
  4. Fire them all. Until then, I'm done with this program. No tickets, no donations, nothing.
  5. Winless? No. We beat Portland State. Maybe UTSA and UTEP. We don't win a road game. I predict 2-10. And nobody of significance will lose their job.
  6. The students could not have built the stadium on their own. Neither could Rick. Or the BOR. Or Gretchen. It was the result of the hard work of many people.
  7. It did not specify. Also, we have paid off our $2 million entry fee to C-USA Baseball Stadium is listed as "Planned Project without Identified Funding Source"
  8. This is just prep and architectural costs. Kentucky's facility cost $13 million http://www.kfundonline.com/new-outdoor-track-field-facility/
  9. Sorry guys, I've been away since last season... But I came across this nugget in the BOR finance committee powerpoint. Planned Use of Reserves • $400,000 to Athletics from Student Service Fees Reserve Fall 2015 differential due to increased Athletics fee beginning Spring 2016. $1.3M – Preparation, architectural costs for Applied Physics building at Discovery Park ($0.8M) and Track and Field/Recreational Sports fields ($0.5M)
  10. College Allowing Students Individual Commencement Speakers To Make Ceremony Acceptable For All http://www.theonion.com/article/college-allowing-students-individual-commencement--50486
  11. UNT student's political prowess is weak at best. There are university students all over this country that have chased away conservative speakers from their commencement cermonies. Here in Denton, a weak-ass "petition" that barely generated 3000 signatures and about a dozen barely noticed protestors Saturday night. Abbott's position that education comprises his three top "emergencies" in Texas, along with his desire to provide more research funding to UNT, had no business in a university commencement. His desire to push his radical beliefs about perservering over life's challenges and the hateful idea of the importance of education should have been rejected by every single student on campus. Yet another example of how UNT falls short of its potential.
  12. Why would we pay 3x the property value?? That could have gone toward the convention center to make the deal palatable for everyone.
  13. There is no sex in the Champagne Room (nudge, nudge)
  14. Given the firestorm at the time, I have no trouble believing they were close to the death penalty. But I'm sure common $en$e prevailed in the final meeting....
  15. The 5:00 tip-off surprised me. Thank you, technology, for alerting me the game was going to start in 15 minutes.
  16. Wondering how long it took for us to retire his numbers after leaving. I can't believe Pittsburgh, with all of their Super Bowls and legendary players, took 30+ years to retire his jersey. Although, he is only the 2nd Steeler to have his number retired.
  17. Avg attendance for year: 20,161 Total attendance for year: 100,803
  18. When you have a drill go up in your back yard, it tends to challenge your previously held beliefs.
  19. Not to mention, if you looks at a map of active drills inside Denton city limits, there really isn't a lot left to tap in to. The industry will save face, put up a little bit of a fight. I have always suspected this wasn't about Denton, but about the precedent we set with this vote. This happened last December: "The Dallas City Council passed Wednesday new restrictions that bar hydraulic fracturing within 1,500 feet of a home, school, church, and other protected areas. The new rules effectively ban the practice within the city." Petroleum engineer Bill Crowder of Dallas indicated that the economic and legal wrangling over fracking in the city is not yet over. “I want you to look me in the eye next February or March,” he said, according to the Dallas Morning News, “when I ask you, ‘What the heck were you thinking?’” While a few have been filed, Dallas wasn't flooded with lawsuits, which certainly has deeper pockets and a prime target for lawyers.
  20. It will be minimal. In Colorado, Longmont, Broomfield and Lafayette combined spent about $100k defending their ban. In Dryden, NY, the cost was $38k. The threat of the cost of lawsuits is nothing but another fear tactic from the industry. They're not going to spend millions fighting the ban when they can just move their operations 1000 yards outside city limits.
  21. Probably not. Less than 1% of Denton's revenue come from gas well permits. Most of the people who work the sites live elsewhere. The revenues go to corporations in Dallas or Houston. Denton won't feel a thing, even from the lawsuits. Pennsylvania, Colorado, New York towns each spent well under $1 million defending their bans. The industry spent a lot of money trying to instill fear into our citizens.
