  1. Welcome to the club.
  2. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/usfl-relaunching-next-march-hall-of-fame-receiver-fred-biletnikoff-involved/2012/05/10/gIQAR6jFGU_story.html
  3. "The players themselves don't benefit, exploited by a system in which they don't receive a dime of compensation." Cost to attend four years at: $186,920 - Notre Dame $130,536 - Cal Berkley $226,906 - SMU $229,224 - Vanderbilt $225,936 - Tulane $228,720 - Duke
  4. ESPN does not have a endless supply of money, The fact that the Big 12 and ACC are getting huge paydays concerns me. Not exactly confident at this point that C-USA will be able to negotiate a significantly bigger deal.
  5. If I'm the GM, I would have been in the locker room after this game with a contract that would make Hamilton the highest paid player in baseball.
  6. 8 RBIs is 2nd best ever in the AL, 4th best in MLB history.
  7. 18 bases in a single game is an American league record (he had a double in his 3rd at bat)
  8. He has the same number Barry Bonds had on this date in 2001.
  9. A state university is not private property. It is state property, funded by taxpayers, subject to legislative oversight, and governed by a board appointed by the governor. Nice try, though.
  10. SMU didn't have a physiology department in their college of education, and lots of athletes will major in that so they have an option to get into coaching. They started one in 2009.
  11. I wonder how many people are annoyed by all the people drinking and the loud music in front of the gates of Apogee. It's easy to be in favor of banning behavior when it doesn't affect you, but keep in mind that this mentality can really apply to anything deemed "not good for you." I try to be courteous to the non-smokers around me, and I never smoke near kids.
  12. At my work place or bar, I can go OUTSIDE and smoke, where an ashtray is located. Telling people they cannot smoke on a college campus goes above and beyond accomodating non-smokers. It is overkill.
  13. Your cats are in your pants?
  14. Those are the cleats that Notre Dame will be wearing when the Irish face off against Navy in Dublin, Ireland to open the 2012 season. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/18984478/notre-dame-to-wear-special-irish-cleats-for-navy-game
  15. Do not underestimate the desire of Congress to regulate. There is almost universal agreement that something stinks about college athletics. Anything seen as a move to break away from NCAA oversight will not be tolerated by Congress.
  16. 90% of Norfolk are military families who are always moving every three years to another station. My Dad was stationed there twice, once at the shipyard and once at Oceana. The problem with such a city is that you don't really grow roots. I can't imagine there are a lot of lifelong Old Dominion fans in Norfolk.
  17. Why set such low expectations? We don't HAVE to get an FCS program. Army is just sitting there ready for an invite back into the fold.
  18. I doubt that. It may be a bigger pie than the two leagues can get separately, but in the end I think everyone would just get a smaller piece.
  19. The merger was an interesting idea, but one of its biggest advantages was the possibility of AQ status. That is now off the table. Why don't we see where this whole college football thing goes and how it all works out?
  20. I really don't think that happens - the backlash from fans and Congress would overpower them. Bye bye, tax exempt status!
  21. Sour grapes? What was it that FIU did, other than the new splash page on their website?
  22. "I can't figure out a good reason to have a playoff to start with," he said. "We've had some informal meetings, the Big Ten presidents and the Pac-12 presidents, and I think we're largely aligned in thinking a plus-one with a different ranking after the bowl games to select No. 1 and 2 would be acceptable. Really? How about the fact it is how 97.2% of all other sports determine their champion? How about "the fans want it"? How about "it's fair"? "Our second choice would probably be a four-team playoff inside the bowls. Our highest priority is to preserve the status of the Rose Bowl and our connection to it." F*#% the Rose Bowl, the horse it rode in on, and college presidents who think they know everything including how to market a sports league. It is absurd that progress over the years always seems to be held up by the Rose Bowl committee. The Rose Bowl may have meant something when it was PAC-10 vs Big Ten and these were the best conferences in the nation, but now they are just another BCS bowl game who gets the extra spotlight every four years. Just an example of dusty old dinosaurs who always complain about how things were so much better in 'the good 'ol days' preventing us from moving forward. http://www.cbssports...ff-for-plus-one
  23. I don't know but certainly we will be playing a former Sun Belt team out of that division the first year.
