No angst. Littrell is a solid hire. I guess I was just really hoping for a hire that would make a big enough splash amid the Texas college football landscape that it would go a long way toward changing the poor perceptions that exist surrounding our program in the local media and among area coaches and recruits. I'm not sure this choice will accomplish that goal. But--I very well could be wrong.

brett vito Monday afternoon coach search update

Exactly. Very discouraging, unless we have an ace up the sleeve. -
Why do I have the sinking feeling that we're somehow screwing this whole thing up?

Hopefully we'll have a new-football-coach press conference tonight to deflect attention away from this game.

We know that he recognizes what good recruiters look like because he's surrounded by them at TCU.

Disastrous start to the season

It's early in the season, but so far this looks like it could end up being the worst Benford team yet. Every time we touch the ball I just cringe and wait for the inevitable turnover.

Our offense looks absolutely awful right now.

Wheels really coming off at a bad time.

He wouldn't exactly be a splash hire or one of my top picks, but he does currently have his team in first place in the Big Sky Conference for what that's worth.

Well, that's what I was hoping, but the UTSA game was not available online, and I don't believe there is a live stream option on their website for today either.

In all seriousness, I am annoyed at ASN because all they seem to accomplish these days is owning rights to broadcasts that they won't show in this area, meaning that colleges can't even show webcasts of their games. My all-access subscription is all but worthless when this bs network clogs up the system.

The ratings will be off the charts in Billings, MT!

Vito writes his articles in traditional Associated Press format and organization, which is exactly what he should be doing. Personally, I have never really understood the ire that some direct toward his writing just because it doesn't always gratify our Mean Green egos--which would only be appropriate if he were reporting for Meangreensports.com. It's really pretty amazing that he is able to cover so many different sports, regularly update his blog, pump out full-length articles (including researched data and interviews with elusive coaches/players), and chase our teams all over the country to watch them in live action. As for Sidway, he seems to be exceeding expectations, and that's awesome. But, I don't know how productive it is to compare the two when they really have different rhetorical situations (for the rhet/comp nerds out there).

People, He began his post with the words "Yes, this is 1/2 troll post, 1/2 serious post," and so many of you were still baited into reasserting your criticism of a guy who hasn't played in here in two years. And--the last time he did take the field for the Mean Green he dislocated his knee, had it popped back into place, and returned to play a hell of a game and lead us to only our second bowl win in the 100 year history of the program. Was he a part of an ensemble cast of several equally good players? Yes. Was he a good QB for us? Also yes. Do we wish we still had him? Hell yes. And no, saying that does not mean that I'm under some delusion that he would be somehow transcend the epic disaster that is this season and lead us to a CUSA championship. By all accounts, he's a really good guy who sacrificed his body and continues to be a great supporter of Mean Green football. None of that is necessarily relevant to this discussion, but I guess I just don't understand the obsessive need to constantly rehash the question of "was he REALLY that good?" Can we not just conclude that he was one of our better QBs in recent years and leave it at that?

I was just hoping that he would provide quality depth in the post with solid defense and rebounding. But, last night he looked more than competent on the offensive end; 15 points in 18 minutes is a really good sign. Yes, he's a one year player, but on a painfully young team, he might be prove to be a critical piece during that one year.

Congrats, ladies! You've restored pride to a "fractured" Mean Green nation.

Basketball Talk Wednesday: Week 1

So it's a non-zero probability! Better than our current football season. -
I really, really hope Holston and Fuller come out looking strong. We don't have a lot of other options at those spots if they aren't ready.

It's OK. We've all had a loooong fall.

It was discussed on KNTU during the 5:00 news break yesterday.
