Exactly. Being blown out by another Texas program that is typically ranked beneath us would be the ultimate way to unravel any positive momentum of getting into a bowl game in the first place. Over two seasons, Morris is 0-9 vs FBS teams that finished the regular season with a winning record and 1-2 against those that finished 6-6. We shouldn't be favored against any team, but if we play someone like 6-6 Western Michigan, it should at least be competitive--and the negative effects of losing would be pretty minimal. It would have no effect on our standing with our potential recruits. Keep in mind that the Frisco Bowl is going to happen one week after the portal opens, which means the week leading up to it will be filled with announcements of our players leaving (along with the two weeks following it). Getting an absolute kick to the crotch in that game that we might be playing with a bunch of backups on offense could really set things back, heading into the offseason.

Wow, that was some scared play calling. Morris clearly has no faith that Chandler can complete vertical passes and opted to put the game in the hands of the defense, which hardly seems like a safe bet.

I believe they won the conference a few years back.

You are correct, sir! Change "Panthers" to "Mean Green" and this post could be copied and pasted onto the NT football forum: "Well, its a team with a pulse, so until I see otherwise I expect us to lose. Either get completely obliterated, or get killed in the 1st half only to make a valiant comeback in the 2nd and lose close. Moral victory champions until they can prove they can beat good teams. Prove me wrong Panthers."

Yeah, it reminded me of UConn earlier in the day letting Solo Ball sink the game-tying 3 with 1 second left in regulation--when he was 1-4 on 3s and had a grand total of 4 points. They had hotter hands they could have gone with but still trusted him.

Yeah, Memphis may or may not pull off the win, but they look like a top-25 team.

Anyone else still rooting for Eric Morris?
Greendylan replied to MeanGreenZen's topic in Mean Green Football
Not a bad take. But, I don't want to conflate two separate issues. I am always going to root for the Mean Green in every game they play, and Morris is currently the head coach, so I guess I am rooting for him to win. Now, am I rooting for him to return next season? Probably not. Every sign seems to be pointing to the sad reality that we are headed in the wrong direction. If we somehow end up in a bowl game and beat a respectable opponent and finish 7-6, then I would reconsider (highly doubt that happens). Anything less and I will be very upset by a year three of Morris. As for the part about not having the money for a buyout, do we know this for a fact, or is this just an assumption? Since his salary is only about half of what Littrell's was, then it would stand to reason that the buyout is not unmanageable. -
Mostafa and MTSU look pretty strong.

Easiest poll yet. Only difficult question was the last one.

Is this what an “offensive genius” looks like?
Greendylan replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
It feels like this season is over. If we somehow manage to get that elusive 6th win, can we file a lawsuit to help a 3-win MAC team get into a bowl game so that it will at least be competitive? Also, can we go back to the era when we didn't have any rivals? Any annual "rivalries" just end up fizzling because we're so terrible in those games that the series quickly become non-competitive and unexciting. We never really take any successful steps to improve the program while others refuse to remain complacent. -

A below average team is on pace for over 700 yards of offense against us. Lol...it's honestly comical at this point. -

This team is just unwatchable at this point. -

Greendylan replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm going to be brutally honest. Overall, I think we are a bad team. Now, we are one of the best of the bad teams, so we will rack up some stats against terrible teams and help our offensive stars secure next year's NIL deals elsewhere. But, we have no chance of winning against any team with a pulse. We will likely finish with 6 or 7 win, which means we'll play a bottom tier bowl game against another 6 or 7 win team, and we will lose . . . because, once again, Eric Morris has never defeated a .500 or better FBS opponent at North Texas. Is 6-7 or 7-6 with only wins against terrible opponents a good sign for the future? -

Greendylan replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Football
It's horrible. But, right now I'm more concerned with the fact that we haven't gotten a single win in almost two years against a team that isn't absolutely terrible or FCS. Oh, and we are now officially in the bottom half of the conference. -

After this game, Eric Morris will be 0-9 vs. FBS teams with a .500 or better record. -

Despite the close score, it kind of feels like it's over. We can't stop them at this point, and our offense isn't going to be pulling off any miracles today. Once we go down by two scores, it's officially over. -

The AAC desperately wants Army to keep winning. -
Ah, I meant to add "FBS" into that statement and forgot. It's updated now.
-
Since the current coaching regime has been in place (start of last season) North Texas is 0-8 against FBS opponents that finished the regular season .500 or better last season or currently are .500 or better. The average score has been 48-30. If I were to calculate the average deficit at the end of the first half in such games, my head would explode. Suffice it to say, there just is no evidence to suggest we have a chance to win. Army - as many points as they need to score to win comfortably and feel good about themselves NT - around 30

****OFFICIAL TULANE VS UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION****
Greendylan replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll go ahead and say this now: Kinda sorta playing better in the 2nd half (if it happens) is not a moral victory or any positive sign. It's just another massively disappointing loss. -

Blowout loss. Morris teams don't beat teams with winning records. -
***OFFICIAL UNT vs MEMPHIS IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, this cannot be another the-opponent-doesn't-punt-until-the-third-quarter game. Memphis is a lot more like Tech than they are a bottom half of the AAC team. It's not fair to the offense to expect them to produce points on almost every single drive, but they'll probably have to do so to prevent a blowout. I'm still skeptical about the supposed defensive improvements. They've only looked better against completely dysfunctional offenses that can't move the ball against any of their opponents. I guess we'll find out soon... -
I would agree with you, if not for the point that the Tech loss wasn't just a loss. It was one of the worst 1st half performances in the modern history of college football. The other games were fun...but they were against teams that range from REALLY bad to below average. If we lose the next three all by double digits, which is pretty much what most of the college football world expects, it would be understandable for some fans to be disappointed with 5-4 and non-competitive with the upper half of the conference. Hopefully the defense will surprise some folks and that won't come to pass . . .

What some are predicting for the Wyoming game
Greendylan replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
There's a Newtonian law that the performance of North Texas football is inversely proportional to the number of people paying attention. It would be the most North Texas of North Texas occurrences to push for months for a sellout, get damn near close (even after historic ineptitude last week), and then to suffer an upset loss. Wyoming's defense is really not bad, and the NT defensive scheme might be just the jolt their offense needs to wake up. Wyoming 34 North Texas 27
