***OFFICIAL Charlotte VS UNT OFFICIAl Game THREAD***
Greendylan replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
The Seth Littrell era is effectively over, but due to money, it can't officially end for another 2-3 years, which means we will bottom out and finish last place in the division for a couple seasons and absolutely obliterate any credibility with fans/recruits that we had accrued from the Mason Fine era. -
***OFFICIAL Charlotte VS UNT OFFICIAl Game THREAD***
Greendylan replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
This team is utterly unwatchable this year. Something has irrevocably changed from a couple years ago, and it seems that the Littrell magic is gone and not coming back. We are just about the worst team in the nation, which is exactly where we were when he took over the job. -
Rice gets its own tier at the bottom. Lolz...

Sure, but a team like Marshall has a monumentally better defense than SMU.- 327 replies

Imagine how embarrassing it would be for CUSA if this North Texas team were not one of the worst in the conference.- 327 replies

***OFFICIAL SMU vs. NORTH TEXAS 2020 OFFICIAL GAME THREAD***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
No, don't fall into that trap. Show me what year of the past four recruiting cycles when they were ranked like 50 spots ahead. In fact, you would think they had top 10 recruits and us bottom 10 based on the score. It's one thing to lose because they are playing a little better and currently have slightly better talent. But, when you aren't even competing, it's something else.- 327 replies

***OFFICIAL SMU vs. NORTH TEXAS 2020 OFFICIAL GAME THREAD***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Out of the many, many embarrassing performances over the years, this is right up there with the worst. There's just no excuse to look this absolutely unprepared, undisciplined, and disinterested. And, please, please don't do the whole "they just look bigger" thing. We have comparable athletes. They are just not making mistakes, and we are not executing in any phase of the game.- 327 replies

***OFFICIAL SMU vs. NORTH TEXAS 2020 OFFICIAL GAME THREAD***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
As atrocious as the defense is, what is the most disturbing is how the offense can't score against a below average defense. It's hard to imagine how this team could beat any even average team.- 327 replies

This is borderline unwatchable. If this defense isn't the worst in the nation, then it has to be pretty close. It's hard to imagine competing with any competent offense.- 327 replies

***OFFICIAL SMU vs. NORTH TEXAS 2020 OFFICIAL GAME THREAD***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Our offensive line looks completely overmatched, as if they were playing Alabama's defense or something. Meanwhile, I will be shocked if SMU even punts once in the first half.- 327 replies

***OFFICIAL SMU vs. NORTH TEXAS 2020 OFFICIAL GAME THREAD***
Greendylan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's see, our top defenders won't be playing, and we had the worst start possible on both sides of the ball. Not much reason to think this will go well.- 327 replies

To add to this, it looked to me like the defensive formations late in the game were meant to be risky and put DBs on an island, presumably to test those 3rd and 4th team players.

That's an interesting question. We have seen at least one conference (SEC, I believe?) announce their policy for differentiating a cancelation from a forfeit, but I haven't seen any universal NCAA rule for non-conference games, which makes me think it would be determined based on the language of the individual contract between those two schools.

I would be ecstatic if they only scored 40 on us.

I mean, I have a lot of faith in the guy, but if we are rating QBs after one start, then Dajon Williams was better.

9/5 Houston Baptist vs North Texas
Greendylan replied to Pavlovs Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
The defensive line is being manhandled by the HBU offensive line. Extrapolate this performance to any other game this season, and we have to envision massive improvement to even be competitive against competent FBS offenses. -
There may be a lot of truth to what you are saying, but I feel like McCasland tries to sprinkle in some morale-boosting moves like this every now and then. It seems to me that he has shown an above average degree of loyalty to his players when compared to your status quo D1 basketball coach. Could he have upgraded the roster by awarding the scholarship to an external recruit? Probably so, but perhaps this is a testament to the fact that he feels comfortable with where the roster currently is and sees more value in proving to his players that hard work will be rewarded, even for those way down the bench. That's my take anyway, but who knows?

Let's see, only 60% of conferences are playing football this fall, and currently, 84 teams are needed to fill all of the scheduled bowl spots. I think it's safe to assume that a great many of these bowls will be canceled--even if we do make it all the way through the college football schedule this fall, which is a big "if." I hate to be Debbie Downer, but what's the alternative here: having 1- or 2-win teams playing in bowls?
-
Great questions! Just the fact that you're taking the time to ask them already boosts my confidence in the direction things are headed during what feels like a transitional moment.

The proposal to play home-and-home games against the five geographically closest opponents sounds reasonable in theory, but logistically that just doesn't work out for everyone. Take UTEP for example. Their closest games would be at the other Texas schools and then Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss. However, Southern Miss's five closest games should be against UAB, MTSU, Louisiana Tech, WKU, and Rice. But, that could never happen under this format because it would then send UTEP really far across the country. North Texas and UTSA would also need far-flung replacements. So, basically this plan would ask the schools that are geographically in the middle to take one for the team and essentially align with the schools either east or west of them, whether or not they are the closest. Or, in other words, it would create de facto divisions once again. The only other possibility would be to just say sorry to the geographic outliers like UTEP, FIU, and FAU and tell them that their home-and-home schedule will not be configured according to distance. I guess the logic there could be that they will have to fly everywhere anyway, so get over it. But, I can't see that scenario happening either.
