Weird question about alumni of "Little UTs"
IslandEagle replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
The UTEP and UTSA grads I know here in town, say they are from UTEP and UTSA, not UT. -
Yeah. Marshall really sucks.

Bottom line....this is a rebuilding year....as much as some do not like it. Sorry, but unless you are Top 10, every team in the country with few exceptions "rebuilds" not "reloads" when they lose a bunch of talented players. What is good, is that despite the loss of some real stars, we still have a shot at a winning season and a bowl bid. Some teams look at 1-10 and 2-9 seasons after losing as many starters/stars as we did.

McCarney: UNT won’t pull redshirts off East Texas WRs
IslandEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If that were true, this year wouldn't matter either -
Actually, it is quite simple. Before the QB's could not even hit the open receivers. Now, at least, we have a chance of hitting them. But, that doesn't obscure the fact that our receivers are far from being all-world, much less all-conference.
-
Any idea why they are red-shirting Goree and Rutherford? It seems we need them now, if they are ready.
-
Phil Steele predicted this pre-season saying they: "could grab a surprising CUSA West Title this year".
-
Well, then they need to pull a Richard Abbe and find a OL or two, who can be converted to defense. It worked for us last year. Surely out of all the OL recruits with size (some of whom played two ways in high school) we can find someone who can play in the defensive line and add a little size to our mixture.

Carlos can't carry the whole load. We need others to step up. What happened to our touted WR recruits. This offense needs more play makers at the wide-out positions. This is not to minimize the issues we have on defense and elsewhere.

FAU vs. FIU Tonight (Get your Pick'ems in!)

I certainly hope so! -
FAU vs. FIU Tonight (Get your Pick'ems in!)

FIU looked pretty tough in their romp. They will not be a push-over in November. -
As it should be. Those kids are out there risking major injuries and for the most part, doing the best that they can in a very competitive venue. If you want to be an a**hole, go to professional games, where it is a business and not just a group of youngster trying to live out a dream.

MGB video: Canales talks about Williams, UNT's offense
IslandEagle replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
2012 Texas Football that included him in their Texas Top 300 list and in their team preview which mentioned Dajon Williams (6-4, 190 4.5) and said, "No player could prove more pivotal than QB Williams (2,162 yards, 30 TD's passing), a dual-threat who lead the Cougars to 41.3 points a game". -

Actually, he was listed as having a 4.5 40 coming out of high school. Even given the fudge factor, he can move fairly good for a QB at any level. -
It is good we have the Nicholls State game to help DW iron get some practice and confidence before facing Indiana on the road.

We'll mostly run, but DW will find some very open receivers as a result. Lots of big runs and a few long pass plays in my opinion.

Make the Nicholls game a competition at QB
IslandEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately, the Nicholls State game won't tell us anything about our QB's except can they take a snap and hand off the ball. Based on their season to date, our offense and running backs ought to rule the day with the QB playing a minimal role. Now the Indiana game would be a real test....if we want to get one in prior to a return to conference play. -
I never did, nor did I take Louisiana Tech with a grain of salt. The conference looks good this year and we better get our act together!
-
Regardless of anything else, Williams looks comfortable on the field and Greer doesn't. That has been obvious to every announcer who has covered our games. Second, Williams appears to have a much better arm than either of the other QB's and can hit receivers on the run, without throwing wounded ducks. These facts, alone, ought to carry tremendous weight with the coaches.
-
One problem is that he hasn't learned to check off on other receivers, so he telegraphs his throws and misses open secondary receivers.
-
In any case, Chico and Mac need to wake up and smell the coffee. Greer may try hard, but if you want to have any chance of winning this year, they need to accept the fact that Greer is just not ready for Division 1 football. He is the one who should have been redshirted.
-
I agree. While, obviously Dajon deserves a shot, our wide receivers are far from being what we need.
