MGB: Offseason questions series No.1 -- QB situation
IslandEagle replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I wouldn't say that. Sometimes players mature. Dajon has the skills, the problem is will he develop the patience, discipline and attitude to become a D1 QB. That is up to him to decide. -
Frankly, if all of these sign and are eligible, I feel pretty good about this class. Sure, I would have liked it to be a little more focused on high school recruits, but if the JC's deliver, I won't complain.

North Texas Football '15 commitment list up to 23

Wouldn't Young be it? -
I voted yes, since the poll did not state "when". Certainly, he is the best freshman for us suited up this year.

MGB breaking news -- Harris suspended indefinately

They may have been Dodge's boys, but Todd would have gone 4-7 with them. -
MGB breaking news -- Harris suspended indefinately

Nevertheless, it was the correct decision. Any coach would have done the same. -
'15 ATH Kevin Dillman (Denton Guyer)

Since he is an athlete, why not see how he develops and then make a decision where he can help the team the most? -
Has UNT held you back personally?
IslandEagle replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
My degree from UNT has never held me back professionally. . Now my long-time obsession with Mean Green sports may have cost me some frustrating days, but like a true addict, I keep coming back. -
In line with what you say, Harry, Phil Steele shows where the various two-deep players for each team were rated when they left high school. It is amazing how many players at every level were essentially 2 and 3 star recruits. This is not to say that an Alabama doesn't have their share of past 4 and 5 stars on their roster, but you can find 2 and 3 stars who crawled up through the ranks to reach the two deep, even there. Many probably were late bloomers who got last minute scholarships when they lost a prime prospect in a recruiting battle. Nevertheless, if a college coach were really skilled at identifying those types of players, they could certainly thrive at our level.

MGB: D'erren Wilson makes the call
IslandEagle replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The same thing happened when the last coach took over at SMU and it got them nowhere.....so I am not all that perturbed at this point. -
It is the way of the world the haves manipulate to keep the have not's out. Privilege must be preserved at all costs.

All I see is another chance for the Ponies to get humiliated. I don't envy them in that. It will be a home game for the Aggies.
-
The only thing I will really want to remember about this season is beating the Ponies.
-
Unfortunately (or fortunately), these opponents were very far from being "non-cupcakes". They are both legitimate conference and tourney contenders. Personally, I see a young team with loads of potential, especially if we bring in the good signing class.
-
Under NCAA rules, there are several situations that the coach cannot comment on. I do not know if any of these are relevant in Greg's situation, but that could explain the silence.
-
Good information, depressing news. This team is devoid of playmakers at the QB level and at many other levels. My interest has diminished greatly in this team overall. That is saying something, since I have been a rabid fan for 50 years. The major problem is that I see little to no improvement next year unless we find some new personnel in key spots and i do not see the coaching staff recognizing that or dealing with it reasonably. I certainly hope that changes.
-
All I know is that Iona will be tough and are favored to win their conference
-
NCAA rules do not permit much commentary on a players personal issues.
-
Hopefully he will finally grow up....something that we could have used when he was here.
-
A&M certainly hasn't matched up to last year either....nor has Baylor.
-
Well yes, but the truth is that it is hard to recruit anywhere below the top 5 conferences and so you have to be creative (and lucky).

Official Rice Game Score Prediction Thread
IslandEagle replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Rice 44 North Texas 20. Our defense will not be able to stop Rice (hope I have egg on my face after the game). They match up very well against our current defense unless it has grown a whole lot since the last game. -
Well, until DW can quit throwing lazy passes to the opposing team, I do not see much alternative.
-
It won't matter. If you have viewed any Rice games you would know for sure our defense cannot stop them.

McCarney’s candid remarks about the situation at UNT
IslandEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
On the plus side, expectations are raised. Who would have thought we would be whining after a the first bowl season in a decade? Unfortunately, raised expectations have not produced a solid core of die-hard supporters.
