MAVS RENEW RIVALRY WITH EAGLES UTA meets North Texas for the first time since 1996 The UT Arlington men's basketball team will meet North Texas for the first time in more than a decade as the Mavericks travel to Denton to face the Eagles at The Super Pit. The Scott Cross era opened with an 87-59 win over UT-Tyler last Saturday. Five players - led by Jermaine Griffin and Anthony Vereen with 17 points each - scored in double figures as the Mavs shot 60.0 percent from the field. A win would give the Mavericks their first 2-0 start since 2000-01 and just the sixth time in program history dating back to 1959. The 87 points is the most points in an opener since 93 points in a win over Abilene Christian (93-92) on Nov. 26, 1994. North Texas was a member of the Southland Conference from 1983 to 1996. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 3, 1996, when the Mavs took a 70-67 decision for a league win. The series is the eighth longest for UTA and an opponent. Wednesday's game begins a stretch where the Mavs play eight of their next 10 games on the road. UT Arlington will return to action Saturday at TCU at noon. The Mavs return home Nov. 21 to face Texas-Pan American. TIME CHANGE The UT Arlington at TCU men's basketball game has been moved to noon next Saturday in order to be televised on the Mountain Network. The Maverick Club will host a pre-game social at the Blue Mesa Grill, 1600 S. University Dr., in Fort Worth from 9:30-11 a.m. The first 35 person will receive a free ticket to the game. A continental breakfast is available for $6. TEAM CONCEPT Scott Cross has used the team concept through the first two exhibition games. Nine players saw double-figure minutes in wins over Texas Wesleyan and Angelo State. Four players are scoring in double figures during the preseason - Jermaine Griffin (15.5), Larry Posey (14.5), Ro'ger Guignard (14.5) and Anthony Vereen (11.0) have led the Mavs' early play. UT Arlington averaged 53.4 percent from the field and 73.2 percent from the foul line during exhibition. UT Arlington outscored the opponent by 27.0 points - 84.5 to 57.5 - during exhibition play. PRIME TIME The UT Arlington Mavericks will be shown on television a minimum of four times during the 2006-07 season. The Mavs will premiere on the Mountain Network Saturday when UT Arlington travels to TCU. The game has been moved to noon for television. UT Arlington will be shown in Oklahoma and parts of Kansas and Missouri when they are on the Sooner Network for the UT Arlington-Oklahoma basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 16. The match up between nationally-ranked Texas and UT Arlington will be shown in a five-state region on FOX Southwest on Jan. 2. Finally, the Mavs will travel to Corpus Christi for a Southland Conference match up with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, also on FOXSW. UT Arlington could make a fifth television appearance if they reach the finals of the O'Reilly Auto Parts SLC Postseason Tournament, March 11 from the Campbell Center in Aldine, Texas.

i like that or u buy the tickets, give it to some one to give to u as an anniversary present and either do something special for her before or after the game. also maybe give her a present before u get in the car. a long shot would be talk to the announcer to say something at half time.

DRC Bobby Knight slaps player in face
untwillrise replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I don't know how many of ya'll played organized ball, but a coach should never call out a single player on the court. It is nothing like football, in football if a coach yells and grabs a player for missing a tackle that player will take out his anger on the next person in his way. But basketball is all about confidence, timing, and keeping your head. I could care less what you do behind closed doors, you could bitch slap someone, but never do it on the court. -
Give me the stats on ya'lls relationship and I could come up with something. How long? Where did ya'll meet? stuff like that and i can come up with something.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Since taking over at North Texas six years ago, head coach Johnny Jones has slowly been putting the pieces together for a winning program. That effort may finally be paying off, as the Mean Green overcame turnovers and foul trouble to beat Charlotte 90-72 on Sunday to open its season 2-0 for the first time in 12 years. Kendrick Davis scored a season-high 20 points and four others also scored in double figures for North Texas, which held off a second-half rally by the 49ers (1-1). "We've been fortunate to get some quality young men into our program, guys who have been able to adapt to our system," Jones said. "We've got a great combination of guys, and getting off to a great start like we have has been great for them." The last time the Mean Green started off with a winning record was during the 1994-1995 season under then-coach Jimmy Gales, when North Texas opened with three straight wins. "I always thought we were a confident ball club, we just hadn't always put everything together," said Davis, named the Sun Belt Conference's newcomer of the year last season. "But we're doing a tremendous job utilizing our bench and playing to our strength. That's what's working for us." De'Angelo Alexander scored 25 points for Charlotte, which was trying for its first 2-0 start since the 2000-2001 season. But the 49ers -- who opened their season with an 88-28 win over Hofstra less than 24 hours earlier -- couldn't fully overcome a slow start, in which they shot 28.6 percent from the field and trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half. "It probably had a lot to do with it," said Charlotte guard Leemire Goldwire, who was named the Atlantic 10 player of the week earlier Sunday. "We lost our momentum early in the game, and had to fight to get it back." Davis had put the Mean Green up 44-26 on a 3-pointer with 2:42 left in the first half, but the 49ers scored nine unanswered points to pull within nine at 44-35 at the break. Charlotte managed to cut North Texas' lead to four points three times in the second half, the last at 64-60 on Goldwire's short jumper with 8:06 remaining. But the Mean Green went on a 16-8 run over the next five minutes, with Michael Sturns' 3-point play with 2:59 left pushing North Texas' lead back into double digits at 80-68. The Mean Green then sealed the win by hitting 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes. "They played great, and we were a half-step slow at times," 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz said. "We made a couple runs and made it close, but they'd come up with some big plays. They had the answers for us. They deserved to win." Rich Young scored 16 points for North Texas before fouling out with less than nine minutes to play. Sturns added 14 points, Calvin Watson 13 and Ben Bell 11. Goldwire added 13 points for Charlotte, and E.J. Drayton had his second straight double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Goldwire earned the A-10 award for the second time in his career after scoring 26 points and hitting 12-of-12 from the free-throw line in the 49ers win over Hofstra.

Bullcrap that is not classless that is disrespect. When TC did that i got pisse, until sturns and KD walked right into them and started their cirlce to force TC to leave. Classless would be to start a fight because of it. The right thing would be to whoop their asses on the court.

We have only played 2 games in basketball and have already almost passed football in wins.

How did i miss out on this free food? I was at every game and all i got was dollar hotdogs and 50 cent popcorn. At most there was 100 people from an organization there. The best prize was a chance to shoot a half court shot for 500 dollars towards books. Denton is a basketball town! They come to see a good product.
