  1. UTA is a GOOD TEAM! They will win the Southland Confrence or come second to Corpus Christi. This loss* is not as bad as everybody thinks.
  2. Getting the crowd involved is in part to the Super Pit Production too. The anuncer is a good guy but he is boring. They don't play any music that will make fans move around. All the studenst were at home and the attendence for the next two home games during Christmas will be even worse for students. As for the Pit Crew it is time for them to come back. Is there anyone on this board who is an old member? Do I have to get any permission to us e the name? Is there anyone who works for the school that wants to sponsor the new Pit Crew? Is there any one who wants to join?
  3. He just needs time to adjust. Is whole life he played the center. He is not used to having the ball in his hands away from the block. He has great upside, he just needs to get confidence.
  4. 3-0 unt wins 8 overtimes
  5. as much as i love sturns, Young should start. If Sturns would start it should beover bell. I like young he just needs to look to attack more. That is a major problem we turn the ball over way too much. Against Rice it was terrible.
  6. WKU is a real good team and if they can pull off a miracle it will be huge not just for them but for the Belt. Even if they stay close it will be good.
  7. Thats all good and all but when it comes down to it we scored the same amount of points. It is not like it is a judgement call or anyhting the red light went off the buzzer sounded and then he shot. Plus UTA is not a bad team they played TCU to two Overtimes and are 3-1.
  8. Thats was the first thing I looked for after Bell missed his Freethrows.
  9. Hey Hey! This is thanksgiving man! I don't want to hear any negativity! Think positive man! Positive thinking brings hope, hope brings happiness. Atleast until the day after.
  10. That is my biggest fear. with KD out Sturns and Watson are only guys who can make their own shot. So when we play a good team like Nebraska and Western Kentucky what are we going to do to manufature points. In every game we have gone on bad dry spell, we are just good enough to have came back from all of them. Another point is why doint we press more? Even when we don;t get a still it pressures them into an early shot which is good for us because we want more scoring opportunities.
  11. 5-1* I am putting up a protest for that one lost.
  12. I might have went overboard on that. But in actuallity people do not key on him. They press our gaurds hard. He just takes to long to make his move and he does not reset the post. When he catches the ball in the post he needs to make a move quick. I he gets doubled he needs to kick it out for a three or reset his post. Two things our gaurds need to work on is post entry, Bell is the worst passer into the post I have ever seen and he always blames it on Wooden or Quincy if it rolls out of bounce, THEY ARE 6-9 THEY CAN NOT FEND OF THE DEFENDER AND BEND OVE TO PICK UP A BAD PASS. Please can someone cut when they pass it into the post?
  13. A set play is a regular play just like in football. "You go there, set a screen for him, you curl to the top for a open three." They last for about 8 seconds. An offensive set is the continous offense. Motion, Highl-low, and Princeton are some common sets. You just run it over-and-over until you get what u want. Unt needs to run more of a motion to get shooters better looks and to open up the post man. UNT not sends both gaurds to the corners and the postman to the block with the point at top. The gaurds "V-CUT" to get open, which is basically like a wide reciever versus a cornerback. When the point passes it to a gaurd he goes to the corner and the opposite post man comes to set a screen, overloading that side which makes it hard for the gaurd to drive or the big man to roll. We just do that from side to side.
  14. I still have yet to see anything out of Wooden to excite me. Even vs. Cameron and Texas College he was not even close to being a good player, and that was vs. bad post teams. He continuly turns the ball over and turns right into the double team. He has no abilitiy to pass it out to the perimeter, which needs to be down. He can't jump to shoot over people or block shots. He was abused by the postman from UTA and by some Post vs. Rice and was killed by the same move vs. Tulsa. I don't think he should start or even play after the production that he has given. Quincy is playing much better and I want to see Jackson play a little more. The only time he should play is when JJ is thinking about putting in Howerton.
  15. I don't mean we can't score points. I mean in the half court the set offense is non existent. I agree that we are a three point shooting team and i like it, but after watching a team like Rice get Almond open almost 3/4 of the time just by doing the same offensive set i wonder why we can't do that.
  16. I have been saying this since mine and his freshman year. Since playing with him in the rec i said that he will be a star. Everyone's only complaint is that he is too out of control. With no disrespect to Johnny Jones, UNT's offense is terrible. So for a person to score they realy have to make their own offense and he does. Why is he better than Davis? He plays d-fense, handles the rock, rebounds, makes plays for others, even though KD is the team leader Sturns is better. If anyone still wants to argue this statement I want a thanksgiving discussion, just popped the bird in the oven and have nothing to due.
  17. There is no point to play a 1-AA school. If we win none cares but if we loose it will damage our rep even more. Also no one will show up to se us play Grambling, so there is no profit incentive. If we do pull together a good team and a good season it will hurt even more trying to get respect.
  18. I don't think wooden is that explosive to go up over someone strait up. I think he would be better if he learned how to kick the rock back out!
  19. Tell that to the people outraged about the black unis!
  20. Watson coming off strong game against Rice 11:28 PM CST on Monday, November 20, 2006 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer North Texas head coach Johnny Jones knew his team had every reason to fold in a game at Rice on Saturday. UNT was coming off a last-second loss to UT-Arlington, had lost its best player Kendrick Davis to injury and was on the road against an Owls team that features arguably the best player in Conference USA in Morris Almond. The Mean Green managed to pull out a 71-69 win despite those odds and build a little confidence heading into a game against Tulsa at 7 p.m. tonight at the Super Pit. "Rice is a good basketball team," Jones said. "It showed the character of our basketball team and how we are continuing to grow to win coming off of a tough and controversial loss. … It was one of the better games we have played all year." Senior guard Calvin Watson scored 26 points, while junior guard Michael Sturns added 21. The duo's performance helped UNT make up for the loss of Davis, who was averaging 18.7 points a game. The senior broke a window in a hallway door of the Super Pit following UNT's loss to UTA and is out 6-7 weeks with a partially torn ligament in his wrist. UNT lost to UTA on a layup at the buzzer, a basket the Mean Green would have asked officials to review had there been a courtside monitor. Big nights from Watson and Sturns helped the Mean Green get past Rice, but UNT's players believe they will need more than just a few players to improve their performance to build on a 3-1 start. "K.D. brought energy, leadership, scoring and a lot else to the table," Watson said. "Trying to replace that is almost impossible. A lot of guys are going to have to improve not only as far as scoring but in being a leader as well." Senior Rich Young replaced Davis in the starting lineup and scored six points to go along with seven rebounds against Rice, while Sturns came off the bench to provide a spark offensively. UNT's players attributed their win over Rice not only to the performance of the players who helped take Davis' place on the floor, but also to a focus on defense. The Owls shot just 44 percent from the field. Almond scored 38, but no other Rice player had more than six points. "We came together, were aggressive on defense and executed," UNT junior guard Ben Bell said. "We have to keep playing well defensively like we did against Rice. … As long as we can do that, we will keep winning." Keeping that roll going could be a challenge against Tulsa, which ran its record to 2-0 with a win on Saturday over Arkansas-Little Rock, one of the Mean Green's Sun Belt Conference rivals. Freshman guard Ben Ozoh leads the Golden Hurricane with an average of 16.0 points a game and will start along side former Ryan standout Brett McDade in Tulsa's backcourt. McDade helped lead Ryan to the state title as a freshman in 2000 and is averaging 7.5 points a game this year, just off his career average of 9.9. UNT held McDade to five points last season in a win at Tulsa. "Brett will be excited to be back here at home," Jones said. "It's a great opportunity for him. We just hope he doesn't have a huge night against us because he has had some big games here in Denton." BRETT VITO can be reached at 940-566-6870. His e-mail address is bvito@dentonrc.com.
  21. The 49ers coach says he is going to continue to wear suits at games and the Jaguars coach is wearing a suit today. I think it looks a lot better than a pullover. This should be standard procedure.
  22. Im stayin an extra day and a half to go to this game. I think if we start of like we did against rice and keep the turnovers down to a minimal we will win easily.
  23. i will be there 1100 attendence.
  24. Does that matter when the question is who is better?
