  1. my bust amigo. i was specifically referring to a 2-3 zone on defense which is the most common one employed in the college game. 1. used to stop superior inside game. 2. succeptible to outside shooting. no?
  2. i thought teams employ a zone to stop a team that has a more dominant inside game but run the risk of a 3 point shooting team 'shooting' them out of it. did i miss something on that?
  3. does your university have a webcast. some of our out of towners are looking for a way to watch the game. if you have a link that would be great. thanks in advance.
  4. not sure if this counts but other teams play have been playing 5 on 4 against us defensively since jamal crook has been here. his shot (although improved this year ) is so awful teams back completely off him and dare him to shoot it.
  5. thanks amigo. i didn't even see that one. guess i've tried to burn that one out of my memory already. that act didn't get mcdummy fired but i do believe the loss gave him the heave one game early. and for that i am eternally grateful. we could have that fat tub of goo wright waters as our next coach and i don't think he'd be worse than mcdummy. again...thanks for pointing out the obvious to me. i can be slow at times.
  6. derrick has been solid as my wood matt. and a cat can't scratch that! not a great shooter...heck, not even a good shooter but i love the kid. 36% from the field. 26% from 3-ville. 72% from the line. but he gets to the line more frequently than anyone on our team. 94 times with the next 2 closest at 57 & 39 attempts. leads us in rebounding at 6.8 and minutes at 33.1 per game. he has more assists than anyone on the team but he turns it over like he's shaving points. (he is from new jersey so who knows on that one) but he plays better defense than any freshman i've seen at western and that includes courtney lee (pbuh). that is one of the reasons he stays on the floor. all of that said his numbers mimic jordan williams of your team. if by playing a man down....you meant be saddled with ken mcdummy....i like the way you think. if by playing a man down you mean someone we've missed in games due to injuries there is nobody on this team that makes any difference if they're out. keepin' it real, always, dahbeed.
  7. exactly. a team starting a bunch of freshmen. no outside shooters. (i'm not making that up...check the stats...28.9% from 3-ville) no inside presence. most definitely nobody like tony mitchell. for that matter...we don't have anyone close to chris jones or jordan williams. second game after a coaching change. there'll be nothing to see here gentlemen. you beat troy by 22. they beat us AT DIDDLE. tough start for the ray harper (interim) era. the most 'talented' team in the league in unt and then on to honky heaven @ 5,280 feet high.
  8. would it make me a bad person if i admitted i have been weeping for humanity for some time now? before the internets i only knew the idiocy around me. now i sees it everywhere.
  9. i can't express my happiness in the scribbled word medium amigo. if by some crazy chance we get on a run and i do something crazy like end up in hot springs i'd give you all the rundown on what a trainwreck mcdonald was and why he would never would have had success. nobody can say ray will have success but he's done well in his past. i know i've always stated i thought success in any sport is 80/20 talent/coaching. but the 20 has to be solid. i actually knew about it thursday. probably one of 4 people in diddle that knew it was happening. but if i had posted it....probably would have lost the source. i was giddy. i watch every game but will be psyched about the game thursday.
  10. here is what jay walker, the ulala radio guy said about waters' statement. 'this probably happens more than we realize' mmmmmm......NO i was listening to fox sports radio last night and they're still talking about this. and were dogging the sun belt jabba the hutt. has that fat tub of goo ever watched hoops? i've watched hoops my whole life and never seen it happen. i think the dummy just thought western was crying about something again and was his normal flippant self. thank god he's leaving.
  11. ken mcdonald is one of the worst train-wrecks i've witnessed as a long time basketball fan. worse than one of those old black and white movies where 2 trains hit each other head on. and pop up in the air. and leave coal scattered everywhere. i understand why they kept him even if i disagreed with it. our pres. and a.d. were enamored with this recruiting class and wanted them on campus. they then restructured mcdummy's contract...taking 100k off and making the payoff over 4 years instead of immediate. this helps him because he has poor impulse control. if he received it all at once i could picture him in a future tyrone biggums scenario where he tells a class of children....'that boys and girls was the first time i blanked a blank for crack. lots o' speculation over what the crowd would be yesterday. i figured 3500-4000. i know bowling green and we have front runner fans. i was ecstatic with 5200. and they were into the game. our players are still who i thought they were. too slow to check anyone off the dribble. too poor of shooters to hurt you from 3 land. but they played a lot harder for ray harper. ray knows a little bit about hoops. i honestly believe he'll have us playing well by sun belt tourney time. before the game l. brenneman (asst coach) was on the radio and was asked if we'd use zone some. he replied that we had not worked on any zone at all. that's how staggering mcdummy's wreck was. because we all know a zone is how you stop a good outside shooting team. actually, i don't believe that but you need a zone in your arsenal. you guys and denver should drill us. we lost by 20 to fiu. lost to ulala and troy at home. but ray said friday he had 57 days to get ready for the sun belt tourney. he can't make us quicker or taller in that time but he can make us a tougher out. p.s. how idiotic did waters come across in his 6 on 5 statement?
  12. hopefully not many! but who knows. the team has pretty much laid down on mcdummy already.
  13. sorry i didn't see that amigo. you have to be local to see his dummyocy up close and personal to get down on him like us. and i'm not down on him because of humiliation at work amongst uk fans. i'm not one of our board idiots either who 'hates' him over morals issues. he's just a lazy person. i've worked with many like him in my fitty-two years on earth. he's not a bad guy. he comes from a bad coaching tree imo. i never have been impressed by barnes...at all. if he wanted a job where he could do halfassed work and not get fired he shoulda became a union postal worker. or a teacher. western has everything in place to be successful but it still requires hard work. he's not willing to grind. i've doubted him philosophically from the first year but i'm just a goober finger pecking on an hp touchpad (99 dolla) and carry no weight. i have tried to keep some of our board puñetas in line lately but hilltopper haven has no moderators. it's the wild wild west of message boards. here is hoping for a k-mac gone christmas present. woot.
  14. this was probably the best we've played all year. louieville is gallaxically (i just made that word up...it implies HUGELY) overrated. they will lose plenty o' games when they have to leave the friendly confines of the 'kfc yum center'. louieville traditionally plays a syracuse-like ooc schedule never leaving home before the new year. it builds up pyrite level rankings. a little backstory. the word around town is that was mcdummy's last game. he sure didn't sound like a dead man walking in the post game show. but i have it from 2 different sources. i refuse to believe it because of my doubting thomas personality. i need to see the holes in the hands before i belee dat. it would be one hella christmas present for the topper faithful. lots of stars aligned for this one. pres. ransdall is out of state for christmas. gives him the excuse he lets his a.d. do his job (not true). within 20 minutes of the game rick bozich did some of ransdall's dirty work for him. he penned an article in the louieville courier journal (state flagship rag) downplaying us doing well. got quotes from the a.d. on declining attendance. bozich and horn were good buddies and can't stand mcdonald. the plan is to send the kids home for christmas and come back monday night. start tuesday off with head asst. ray harper as head coach. if there is one winnable game left on our schedule it has to be the ulm game nedt thursday. like i said....i really hope this happens. maybe ray could turn this ship around.
  15. you likker up some kentucky frat boys and a goat is likely to be disenfranchised. you sign a home/away contract with siu and an uuuuuuugly game is likely to break out. as horrible as ken mcdummy is lowery @ siu is WORSE. derrick gordon had a great game. 14 & 13. he's the best rebounding guard i can remember. a friend of mine saw him at our camp one summer and told me he always seems to be 'around the ball' he really does have a nose for it. if he would square up on his jumper it would be a lot better. he really is a stat stuffer. he's gonna be a good one. he still turns it over like he's shaving points. but hopefully that's just freshmanitis. on to ooey-pooey. i have half a mind of calling up courtney lee's (pbuh) dad and seeing if he'd put me up for the night in indy. there's a bowling green kid playing for them that i coached way back. ps. i did drop names. i'm shallow that way.
  16. i was on the saluki board and one of their posters said our game would be 'bad on parade' I'm stil laughing. as much as we detest what ken mcdummy has done to our program their fanbase is even more upset over what lowery has done to theirs. as far down as siu is...and they are.....we have yet to see the depths that mcdummy can drag us to. i cannot look on our schedule and pencil in a win. especially not in carbondale. all of that said my eyes will be glued to the tube at 7:00 cst. ps....uab is awful. they have mike davis and he makes zeke look like a master tactician.
  17. holy basketball poop. is this the same max good that coached at eku eons ago and then at some prep school in the northeast? i believe that was his name. how in the name of hades did he end up on the west coast if it's him?
  18. is that the best we've done in years?
  19. western and middle playing ovc foes. we hate the racers here. as bad as we've looked i won't make fun of ken mcdonald for at least one week if he beats the racers. they're 7-0 and won the great alaska but really haven't played anyone spectacular yet. all of their fans think they're gonna drill us and maybe they will. with freshmen you never know which version is going to show up. middle is rolling right now. i thought tsu was awful even though they've been picked top 3 in the ovc. and it's at tsu and any game on the road is a tough game. i hope we can help the conference out. murray will win a lot of games this year. hopefully they lose to us and to asu (which has 2...count them...2....final 4 coaches...in case you didn't know)
  20. i realize you could care less what a hilltopper fan thinks about your coach. i listened to the first half hour last night and i can see why you're excited about your guy. very sharp and no excuse maker. i'm a firm believer in the 80/20 talent/coaching ratio but the 20 is very important. if your staff can get the studs in i think coach dan will do a hella job with 'em. p.s. why am i banned from chat???
  21. jack doyle is a very good tight end. i doubted our offense last year but things are clicking right now with it. mitchell henry #80 is a true freshman tight end that caught a well thrown ball by jakes for a td. these guys aren't fast but they're big, have good hands, and more importantly do a good job blocking for the running game. running up the middle and using the tight ends is old skoo and a little boring but it also is a clock eater and keeps our dee off the field. our receiving corps is 5 freshman and a sophomore so we're somewhat locked in to the tight ends. the kid that caught the long pass is a freshman and it was his first catch of the year. he's also a converted tight end. (6'5)
  22. god almighty i never thought i'd see the day we were DEAD LAST in the belt. i've been saying we suck but that is black and white proof. still yet (this is one of my favorite 'clem haskinsisms'...he used 'still yet' whenever possible) i am very pleased with the conference as a whole. much better success this year ooc. very happy the red woofs beat utmartin as i end up scrapping with murray state/ovc fans on a regular basis and that would have been an embarrassing loss to swallow. yes...that's the same ut-martin in my siggy.
  23. yo! asalaam ulakum on allah's quran i swear i love sports analogies better than pop ones...and i love pop ones. i thought we might have a chance saturday but after reading your board i realized that 3 of our wins are of the fraudulent variety. i've also read that we haven't faced an atmospere like we'll be facing at apogee and our guys will be rattled so whatever thoughts i had of an even tiny chance at a win went out the window. everything i said in my post is true. jakes is a serviceable qb at best. rainey has faced criticism over number of carries for the last 2 years and nobody can argue about our field goal kicking. we are actually missing clendenin off the dee line and he was our best. i don't know if andrew jackson (ole' hickory) will be available. he's our best linebacker and he's only a sophomore so what does that say about our defense??? senior starting strong safety is gone with separated shoulder. lsu didn't even gameplan (according to here) and could have put up 65 if they had wanted to. no tricks involved here. ask tasty greek if i spoke the truth about our hoops squad last year. he'll tell you. diogenes needs no lantern when looking for me.
  24. just wanted to give you guys a kudos on the win saturday. after the indiana state beatdown i pulled out the old pocket schedule and could not mark down a single win on it. i still can't. we have never beaten north texas and i don't expect that to happen this saturday. i certainly want it to happen but past predictors show no go for a win. we may have the worst quarterback in the sun belt conference in kawaun jakes. he's no ryan aplin that's for sure. bobby rainey's yardage has come simply from the amount of carries he's been given and the fact that taggart goes to the fullback on goal line situations shows a hesitancy in rainey to get the tough yards. we'll still be missing our best down lineman in senior jared clendenin who was having a fabulous season until breaking a toe or footbone in the fiu luckout. our best linebacker is a sophomore named andrew jackson and he had to leave the lsu game with a hip pointer. we without a doubt have the worst field goal kicker in all of north america. look at the numbers. they do not lie. we have a sinner at defensive co-ordinator. enough said on that one. it seems to have been well covered on this board as well as our own. just wanted to be the first to offer congrats on the win. sincerely, dahbeed.
  25. outside of memphis their hoops sucks. i know the western fans want in and i understand but cusa hoops minus memphis is terrible. we don't have a chance of getting in and this is not sour grapes but i was stunned someone mentioned marshall and hoops together. they've been awful.
