  1. This would drive me absolutely crazy if she was my player.
  2. Track & field: N. Texas seeks indoor success 03/01/2003 By Tim MacMahon / Staff Writer The North Texas men’s track team has earned plenty of hardware recently, winning the two of the last three outdoor titles. The women want some glory, too. UNT’s women are picked by the conference’s coaches to repeat last season’s runner-up finish at the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are being held this weekend in Jonesboro, Ark. "We hope this is our year," said Rick Watkins, UNT’s director of track and field. "We were second at this meet last year, and we feel like we have more depth and talent." The UNT men are predicted in the coaches’ poll to finish third. "Our goal is to be in the top four," Watkins said. "From there, anything can happen. But the guys have to be at their absolute best." Middle Tennessee, which has won the last two men’s and women’s indoor titles, is picked to defend both titles. The strength of the UNT women is in the sprints and field events. Senior Ananka Clark has the Sun Belt’s best time this season in the 60 meters with a school-record 7.63 and is also a threat to win the 200. Senior Monica Coates is the defending league indoor champion in the 55 hurdles and has run the second-best time in the Sun Belt this season. Watkins said UNT could have four of the top eight finishers in the women’s high jump and shot put. Freshman Ciji Brooks has the best shot put (44-1) in the league this season, and Latrecia Taylor is the defending champion in the event. Jessica Shockley won the outdoor title in the high jump last spring, and freshman Diedra Wesley has the league’s best jump (5-6) this spring. The UNT men most likely to medal include pole vaulter Ryan Lancon, high jumper and triple jumper Jarrod Stone, shot putter Jerome Carrothers and Ryan product David Turner in the 400. 3. I'm confused MGNation. You question the 350 attendance figure that class84 throws out, but then you later admit you never saw them play. Why would you questioned that number is you weren't there?
  4. I bet the Cowboys wish they had UNT's depth at RB! When could we ever say we have more depth at any position than the Boys?
  5. I know part of this business is moving on to bigger and better, but I am would like to see RV finish what he has started here. Maybe things aren't moving as fast as he, and many of us, would like, but does that mean it is time to bail out? I hope this is just a rumor.
  6. I can see where he would get frustrated, but things are starting to change. I just don't see how this could be true. We finally have an administration in place that supports athletics, our football team is beginning to win more consistently and is recruiting better, we are gaining in recognition, and we are about to embark on a huge facility upgrade. I would hate to think that RV would let a few disgruntled "neighbors" and a few faculty members run him off. Maybe these faculty members should move along. It would save UNT $$$$ to bring in supportive, newer, and younger faculty members. If RV has chosen to leave, then he doesn't have the backbone I thiought he did. I hope this is wrong.
  7. This continues to be a typical year for a young team. Up and down. The good part is that they could get on a hot streak and make some noise in the SBC Tournament. The other good news about the Lady Eagle's is the future looks great.
  8. NT Daily Nice article on the assistant coaches. I hope this transfers to success on the court and in the recruiting battles.
  9. New Orleans — The Sun Belt Conference has announced the signing of Aéropostale to a two-year sponsorship agreement to be the title sponsor of the Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The sponsorship will provide Aéropostale with on-site marketing and exposure at all Sun Belt championships events throughout the year, including the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky. on March 6-11, 2003. In addition, the sponsorship agreement grants Aéropostale the promotional use of the Sun Belt marks, media, grass roots marketing initiatives, internet opportunities and merchandising, as well as marketing benefits at several of the individual Sun Belt member institutions. "Our sponsorship of the Sun Belt is an important part of Aéropostale’s commitment to college athletics, not only from a marketing and promotions standpoint, but for the philanthropic avenues that can be explored as well," said James Buford, Director of Aéropostale’s Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. "We’re pleased with our new association with the Sun Belt and look forward to many exciting years together." "We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Aéropostale for the Sun Belt Conference corporate sponsorship program," added Wright Waters, Sun Belt Conference commissioner. "We look forward to helping Aéropostale reach our students and fans, while at the same time allowing the Sun Belt Conference continue its commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as in the athletic arena." Aéropostale is a 100% private label brand for both guys and girls with over 370 stores in 35 states. Aéropostale carries a focused selection of affordably priced cool graphic tees, casual bottoms, dorm gear, accessories and the latest in denim that makes the company stand apart. This unique selection of clothing, the company’s entrepreneurial spirit, and its dedicated team members make Aéropostale a favorite for today’s teens. For 27 years, fans of the Sun Belt Conference have enjoyed following their favorite student-athletes and teams. Founded in 1976, the Sun Belt is comprised of 11 full-time member institutions and two affiliate members competing in 18 Division I sports, including IA football. The current full-time membership includes the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas State University, the University of Denver, Florida International University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Middle Tennessee State University, New Mexico State University, the University of New Orleans, the University of North Texas, the University of South Alabama and Western Kentucky University. The University of Idaho and the University of Louisiana at Monroe are affiliate members in IA football. ULM also competes in Sun Belt women’s swimming and diving. Utah State University will join the league next season as a football-only member with full membership coming in 2005-06.
  10. Thanks for the insight Buford. I haven't been able to make it to any games this year, but listen on the radio.
  11. I would play, but the draft falls at a bad time for me. Like in the middle of my work day.
  12. This is confusing. When I click on Sound Man's link above it states that Classes are Cancelled for Thursday, February 27th. Then, when I go to the UNT website, without using the link, it still has Wednesday listed. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up, just posting what I read.
  13. Just wondering whatever happened to Kathy Ireland's kicking career?... What should be our emphasis in recruiting for 04'? What kind of team does JJ want to build? What is JJ's style? Running team, half-court, pressing, etc... Why can't UNT recruit the Metroplex better? Does JJ have any connections/good relationships with area coaches? Buford and Cooley seem to be our resident Bball experts, so what do ya'll think?
  14. Coach Segal, Will you be hosting any softball camps this summer? I have an 11 year old neice that is starting to play select softball out of Grapevine. She is really excited about the team starting up at UNT, and has told me many times that I have to take her to some games. I am sure she would be interested in attending a camp. Do you have any planned? Thanks for any information you can provide.
  15. The UNT website shows that classes are cancelled for tomorrow. Man, I wish I was still in school.
  16. Thanks for keeping us updated and building the excitement Coach! I have said this many times before, but it sure is nice to have a Coach posting on this board with updated/inside information. Good luck in building another winning athletic program at UNT!!
  17. I sure hope you are right. We were saying the same thing about the men earlier this year and look at what's happened! Of course Coach Slinker has been here long enough to build her program, and we have grown accustomed to a winning team. I am confident she will have us back to our winning ways in no time.
  18. Radio announcer’s streak snapped Hank Dickenson, the play-by-play announcer for men’s basketball road games, did not make the Mean Green’s loss at Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday night because of travel difficulties. His absence snapped a personal streak of 113 consecutive road games, dating back to the 1995-96 season. Dickenson, whose day job is the senior associate athletic director for external affairs, was on a Delta flight that was supposed to leave the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for Lafayette at 1 p.m. Mechanical troubles delayed the flight until 4:30 p.m., when weather forced it to be canceled. As a result, Dickenson (along with a certain beat writer) was stranded at D/FW. Dickenson scrambled to make sure Mean Green fans still were able to hear a broadcast. KWRD-FM 100.7 and KNTU-FM 88.1 aired the call of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ radio crew.
  19. Player of the Week Power forward Kim Blanton averaged 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games to earn Denton Record-Chronicle UNT Player of the Week honors. The 6-1 junior had 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in a 64-63 loss at New Orleans on Thursday. Blanton made sure the Lady Eagles didn’t lose Saturday at South Alabama, scoring a game-high 20 points and sinking the game-winning basket to snap the Jaguars’ 11-game home winning streak.
  20. Unless we perform miracles in the SBC Tourney. Flu becomes Davis’ biggest obstacle to record 02/26/2003 By Tim MacMahon / Staff Writer The flu has made it extremely doubtful that senior swingman Chris Davis will finish his career as the all-time leading scorer in North Texas history. Davis, who has missed the Mean Green’s last two games because of the illness, needs 76 points to surpass Kenneth Lyons for the school’s career scoring record. UNT completes its regular season Saturday night at New Mexico State. Unless the Mean Green wins in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament, Davis must average 38 points per game to move past Lyons. Davis’ career-high scoring output is 37 points on Feb. 22, 2001, against Louisiana-Lafayette. Davis currently has 2,216 points. Lyons, who played for the Mean Green from 1979 to ’83, completed his career with 2,291 points. Lyons, a frequent visitor to practices and a constant presence at home games this season, was upset when he learned that Davis would not play in his final game at the Super Pit last Saturday. "I want Chris to be the one to break my record," Lyons said.
  21. Exactly! CD is what all student-athletes should aspire to be. Good luck in the future.
  22. I stand corrected. Hopefully, this is a sign of change with the DFW media. If it weren't for Tim Mac of the DRC, I wouldn't hold out any hope.
  23. None of the Dallas News stations reported anything about UNT. Like I should be suprised. Anyway, all they talked about was her going to Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas.
  24. FIX!!!!!!!! If you are truly KO'ed, then how do you have the ability to remove you mouthpiece as soon as you hit the canvas?
