Article Link DENTON (9/6/06) – North Texas junior libero Jessica Hulsebosch has been named the National Player of the Week by The Collegiate Volleyball Update for her defensive efforts in helping the Mean Green claim the title at the Sam Houston State Tournament. Hulsebosch entered the tournament tied for the single-game record for digs at North Texas and promptly topped that mark with 34 digs in a three-game match versus Southern Mississippi, good enough for an 11.33 average. Not satisfied, Hulsebosch tallied 38 digs in the evening match against Sam Houston State. After posting 15 more in a sweep of Radford, Hulsebosch capped off the tournament with a 39-dig effort in a loss to Louisiana Tech. Hulsebosch finished the tournament with 126 total digs and an average of 9.0 per game. She ranks third individually in the nation in digs with 7.41 per game and the Mean Green rank ninth nationally in team digs. Hulsebosch owns seven of the top 10 single-game dig marks in North Texas history. She also set the record for single-season digs last year as a sophomore, and is only 114 digs away from holding the career mark for the Mean Green. North Texas will host the Mean Green Classic Friday and Saturday beginning with Oklahoma against Sam Houston State at 10:30 a.m. The Mean Green will follow with a match at 1 p.m. versus Texas Southern. They will also face Oklahoma Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Sam Houston State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. All matches will be played at the North Texas Volleyball Center.

They are there representing North Texas. I'm not in the band, and I wouldn't cheer for UT if my mother was playing for them. Again, those members should be identified and removed from the band.

I didn't purchase season tickets this year, because I'm now in Houston and my youngster has ballgames every Saturday. It appears that I may be able to make it to Denton for the SMU game by kickoff and would be willing to buy a ticket from anyone that has an extra.

This is ridiculous. Let's take Texas Tech for example. They've broken in a new QB the last three years, their offensive output is the same year after year, and their system is much more complex than DD's run it up the middle and/or play action pass throw long or throw the short out. How much simplier does it have to be?

Really? What's Gary Reason's attachment to UT? They aren't UT announcers. They are Fox's national announcers covering the defending national champions first game, so they are going to give UT more attention, which I fully understand. I don't understand not doing their homework on UT's opponent resulting in numerous obvious mistakes.

The trend is NT/DD is going to run delay hand-offs and play action passes that take too long to develop against teams of UT's caliber. It is ridiculous after 8+ seasons to expect differently.

The announcers knew what to say? We were referred to as North Texas State once. It took about 6 camera shots of different NT coaches for them to ever figure out which one was Dickey. They called Johnny Quinn by another first name, can't remember what it was exactly. They were horrible.

My complaint from watching the game late Saturday night, had to work Saturday, was that DD still tries to run too many delay and slow developing plays. This will never work against a team like UT, or any other team with the amount of speed they possessed. The lack of in-game adjustments, the unimaginative play-calling/system during the DD/RF era are ridiculous.

Better play calling to start the game. No running game to speak of. Still throwing the ball up for grabs at times. Blocked field goal. I understand the run up the middle just prior to the attempted field goal as trying not to turn the ball over, but why not take a shot at the end zone? Phillips can always throw it away if nothing develops? Defense looks better, Chapman playing well, still too many arm tackles Bad penalties.

First, understand the "other" board. Everything with the words North and Texas attached to it are automatically doomed in their mind. The board administrator carries a grudge against RV and the athletic department.
