  1. You should try out for the professional lawn mower racing league.
  2. Uh, the men played in Las Cruces and got beat. The women were at home last night.
  3. No Motivation? I thought cheerleading was motivating the crowd to become involved in the game. So, I wouldn't go if I wasn't a fan. Uh, if you try out for cheerleading and understand that the number one priority of this job is to lead cheers for the athletic teams of this university, wouldn't you want to be a fan of these sports? Why else would you want to be a cheerleader? The competition? Be a gymnast. Look, I respect COGreen for coming on this board and sharing his thoughts, and I also applaud COGreen for being a cheerleader that cares but something is just wrong with this picture. If Jennifer Cloutier is responsible for the cheerleaders and dance squads doesn't this make her a part of the athletic department? Shouldn't she have to answer to RV? I would be surprised if he stands for this. As an alumni of UNT I find it ridiculous and an embarassment that the cheerleaders and the mascot and not required to be at these events. There are just a few home games left this year, and I believe there is adequate time to adjust work/study schedules to insure 100% participation on their part.
  4. NT's Kim Blanton named Player of the Week February 2nd, 2004 North Texas senior Kim Blanton was named Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for averaging 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Eagles split a pair of road games to move into a three way tie for first place in the West Division. North Texas lost to UNO 80-78 on Thursday, then turned around to beat division leader USA, 53-51, on Saturday.
  5. Tom Landry did for years, and that's about the best example of class you could ever come up with. Probably makes more than me, and I would be fired if I showed up to work looking and acting like that. Maybe he's just trying to be a Bobby Knight starter kit. Towe is the only coach I have heard our fans complain about other than the classless coach at UALR that directed profanities at the fans. Now we all know the SBC refs suck, so we will all always complain about them.
  6. Thanks for your reply COGreen. I think the frustration just comes from the fact that the cheerleaders that decided to be cheerleaders and suceeded with their try-outs took on a committment to cheer for the team. Just like the players that committed to play for UNT. The players must show up for practice and games as part of this committment. If they don't, the coaches kick them off the team or suspend them. The same should hold true for the cheerleaders. They should also wear matching uniforms. Maybe this will negatively effect cheerleader turnout for the rest of the year, but at least you got rid of the people that don't want to be there. Then next year make each cheerleader sign an agreement stating that they will be there for each game, with a few exceptions such as illness, death in the family, etc..., and that they will be kicked off the squad if they can't meet these requirements. Let's face it, the cheeleaders should be an integral part of the game as each of you represent UNT. Not showing up is poor representation and reflects poorly on UNT and shouldn't be tolerated. Not trying to get on you, because it appears that you care. The one's that don't shouldn't be there. Sticking to a committment is something they will have to do for the rest of their lives. This should be a good lesson in that.
  7. Sounds to me like they need to move the Super Pit event staff to Fouts to count tickets and student ID's and move the sleep walking events staff at Fouts to the Super Pit.
  8. I am not attacking anyone personally, but I have to ask this question. Since when do all the cheerleaders not have to be at the games? I will admit that I have not been to a game in a while, but as a kid, I always remember all of the cheerleaders and Scrappy at the games. And as a cheerleader, didn't these people choose this activity to support the athletic teams of the university?

Found the on Scottie's board: FROM THE OFFICIAL SITE: DENTON (1/26/04) – North Texas junior guard Leonard Hopkins was named the Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead North Texas to a 3-0 record last week, including road victories over Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State. North Texas extended its longest winning streak of the season to four games and is now 4-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, its best ever start in the league. Hopkins scored in double figures every game, including a career-high 25 points in the Mean Green’s win over Arkansas State. The Dallas, Tex., native scored 13 points against both Florida International and Arkansas-Little Rock, and finished the week with a 17.0 points per game average. In addition to his career-high 25 points against the Indians, Hopkins also recorded a career-high five steals and had a season-tying three assists against Arkansas-Little Rock. 13. team needs to do. Thanks for support I would like to thank the UNT basketball team for their support of Denton Youth Basketball. Last Saturday, coach Johnny Jones and Hank Dickerson brought the Mean Green Basketball team to Calhoun Middle School for an autograph session. All the players were very nice, talked to the kids and gave out UNT basketball posters. As a coach of these young kids, I can appreciate what a big deal it was for them to get to meet the players. We are very fortunate to have the University of North Texas in Denton, the economic impactthe university has on our city is very significant and UNT means jobs for a lot of people in this area. People in Denton love sports, we have good sports programs in our schools and alsoat the youth level. Supporters come to these games, but I am amazed how many people I meet who have never been to a UNT game. UNT sports are fun, affordable and exciting. The football team dominates the Sun Belt and the basketball team is definitely on the rise and will soon claim a championship title of its own. I have been "Down to Dallas" and spent lots of money to watch football and basketball. I found out its more fun and a lot less expensive enjoying a game right here in Denton. Come on out to the Super Pit and show your support of the UNT athletes. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed! Dusty Connor, Denton
  14. I really don't think "other" sports have anything to do with conference realignment. My limited research supports my theory. SMU: Sucks in football and isn't very good in their other sport basketball. No baseball team. Temple: Thinking about dropping to D1AA in football, basketball is usually very good. Tulsa: Up until this year football stunk, basketball is usually very good. Houston: Nothing in football until this year, nothing in basketball since Phi Slamma Jamma UTEP: Nothing in football for years. Basketball team starting to come back around. NMSU: Not much in football, basketball usually pretty good, but not on a national scale. USU: See NMSU La. Tech: Nothing in football except the annual upset and bball isn't much. La Tech is more known for their women's bball program.
  15. Great article and insight in to our coach. Too bad this comes from a Memphis webpage article and not one of the local papers. This would be an immediate marketing and recruiting tool for UNT. I can't believe Vito hasn't done a story of this type on both DD and JJ.
  16. We need DeGrate to play this way all year. 15 pts. in 18 minutes.
  17. We will go 2-0 on this road trip!
