Bafoons huh? i neevr recalled me even saying anything like that. also, when i asked what site that people were looking at, i had already mentioned the collegesoccer.com website. so when i was told about soccerbuzz, i simply asked if no one had looked at that site? how ever it was taken, it was taken the way they wanted to. I didn't say anything maliciously and try to piss anyone off. HEY REB, where was it that showed Denver at 16th?? the last few weeks, that haven't been ranked nationally on that site, that is why i asked the question in the first place, and they also haven't been any higher ranked regionally than 7 and now they are 10, even after the loss. I have looked at the archives and was unable to find a ranking of 16th anywhere. i would appreciate it, if you would be able to tell me where it was that you saw that, cause i might be missing it. Hey reb, thanks for coming across as a nice person and not saying things that don't pertain to you. greatly appreciated..

Who ever said i wasn't a UNT fan? I go to almost every home game, other than this weekends, and i am friends with over half of the team! I saw nothing wrong in my statement about me liking one website more than the other? does anyone else feel offended by that remark? i mean the question is, if your so touchy, why don't you stop posting and reading. all i did was ask people a question. your attitude wasn't needed or called for.
-
Oh, so does nobody even bother to look at collegesoccer.com?? i think that it is more indepth and breaks down everything by every region! Go to the website, then go to college services, and then to rankings. It also shows, what teams were played that week before and the out come of the games. I like this site way more than soccer buzz! it seems to hold true more than buzz.com. Also, if you look at teams and their schedules, it gives you the wins and losses of there opponents, and what programs are ranked that they played!
-
On what website is Denver ranked 20th? i was wondering, because any site i have looked at, doesn't have them nationally ranked, and on one site, they are tied for 8th in the region with SMU and kansas, right behind NO.7 Texas, and Texas isn't nationally ranked at the moment, and this was going into this past week. I just wanted to know what site has them ranked?

why doesn't women's soccer play a harder schedule?
ascchamp replied to ascchamp's topic in Mean Green Athletics
well, i know they can't draw them to come to denton, but i never said anything about having to be big time, just teams that are better. teams that aren't ranked, but tend to always be in the post season and make the tournament frequently. those are the teams that will test you! so, who is up next for the girls to play? does any one know when the new field will be done and ready? -
why doesn't women's soccer play a harder schedule?
ascchamp replied to ascchamp's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Well, i am not really wanting to compare sports here, not my point at all. I am just wondering if anyone feels that the girls could be at a higher level than what they are at, if they were ro play a more difficult schedule. That is all i wanted to know, to see if anyone feels the same way?? or are people complacent with beating 5 teams a year 8-0 and then struggling come the end of the season?? also, what is the team going to do, when mari graduates, and you only have one player that has proven herself?? not much of a team when you depend on one person? I mean i know others score, but no one else has the out put that mari and pina have? where does it come from???????? -
why doesn't women's soccer play a harder schedule?
ascchamp replied to ascchamp's topic in Mean Green Athletics
well, wow, once again, your very true in what you say, but there is a great difference between a football team and a 10-12 game schedule when 2 or 3 games are non conference and a soccer team, that will play 18-20 games, and they play each team twice in conference. there is nothing wrong with getting whipped by a better team, but if you are so negative about it, it just goes to show your confidence in the team! Maybe it would wake people up to see the level that the best teams are at, and give them a hands on experience, the good teams would take that experience and learn from it, they would get serious about training and how they conduct themselves. They would make themselves better. But that also comes back to the coaching also, they have to get the girls in that attitude. My question to you is this, Did Mari get any all-american awards the last few years??? Cause it is sad, when the NATIONS leading goal scorer, and points leader last year has only received FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN, 2 years ago. That all has to do with the teams that they play. -
why doesn't women's soccer play a harder schedule?
ascchamp replied to ascchamp's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Well, true, i understand that you do want to attract competition at home, how ever, for you to say that they wouldn't want to tour the country to get kicked in the stomach, doesn't sound like your very optimistic about how the girls would do against better quality teams! i think it would make them a better team, you only get better by playing better teams! that is evident in any sort of athletics. I know schools have traveling partners, so why not try and get something going on with smu?? they can draw better talent than unt, just cause of the school and the mens program and what not? why not get together with them and try it for a year or two? that might be an option. and they don't have to be ranked opponents, just teams that are better than unt, but not ranked! i am sure there ar plenty of them! -
Has anyone wondered why the women's team doesn't play a harder schedule? At times i begin to wonder if some people are actually as good as they seem to be, or are their stats a bit inflated because of the games that unt plays????? I personally would love to see the ladies play more ranked opponents, and teams that are solid. Nothing wrong with playing teams that are horrble, however, the conference isn't exactly the strongest conference in the nation, so why not help themselves out and give themselves a better rank of schedule. That way, should they not win conference tournament, they have a decent chance at getting an at-large bid. After all, you would love to win those non conference games, but how important are they really? if you lose them and you lose them to teams like notre dame, or duke, or portland, santa clara, or A&M, you can deal with that, cause they are solid squads and you are gaining valuable experience, should you make the post-season. i think that is more benefitial, than playing teams like nicholls state, or grambling or any other non- conference game, that you win by 7 or 8 goals. yes, you get stats, but will you honestly win a game by that margin in the post season, or conference tournament????? I hate losing, but you don't mind losing to a better opponent. i know that winning blow out games gives you a chance to fine tune things, and work out some kinks, but at the same time, as a player, to maybe other players and fans, how serious do you really become after already being up 6 goals?????? Take this perfect example, when the ladies team played Nicholls state, pina was sitting on the bench with sunglasses on joking around with other players after she was substituted out of the game. I wonder if she did that at notre dame????? did anyone??? Those are the things in my opinion, that you shouldn't do, or let allowed to be done and i think that playing a more humbling schedule, would eleviate that. Also, who scheduled the notre dame game, and the game before?? i think it was a horrble job of travel plans. No way that the team even had a chance to win, the way the time was set up! If people want to know, feel free to ask, and i will tell why i think that!

i am very dissapointed in the girls play of late. They seem to prove that they can only win against teams of lesser quality! Is that the trade mark of a good team?? While UNT is 9-4 Middle tennessee is 6-8?? yeah, the team won but they were supposed to?? so she scored three goals?? she did nothing against WK!! the team will always struggle when they only have one player scoring! it becomes easy to shut down one player and then the team is left with virtually nothing when comparing the other girls to Marin! when will the team get a top notch midfielder that is truly dangerous on the flanks that wil draw pressure off of Marin, so you can stop hiding her in the midfield and allow her to run free up top! I tell you what! with 2 good outside mids with speed! wow what damage the team could do! they woudl spread a defense so wide that Marin coudl run 1v1 up top ! if the commit too many people to her and the mids beat there man, they have the whole flanks to attack? do you leave marin alone to cover the flanks?? that is when the team will truly have total domination! they need more speed and one more monster of a forward!

Hey reb, you are right, but also there is a difference in availability of fields. North Texas has so many fields in the D/FW area that i am sure a college could find some qualities fields to play on even if they don't own the complex. I doubt that little rock has anything liek richland college fields or Russell Creek in Plano! we have money and they don't ! We have the resources and much larger audience for soccer here then what hey do so even if UNT didn't have a field, it would be very easy for the univeristy to find a complex or a highschool that would have an immaculate surface!
-
Well DennDann, i was't there as you were, but still, Some things should never happen. For example- the womans team at my college had a game against a team that they have not lost to or tied in 7 years. That is over 16 games that they have flat out dominated a team. They were beat in overtime and all one girl could say was-- that sometimes you win some and sometimes you lose some! that is true what she said, but also there are times that it should never happen especially against a team that has no business being on the field with! If UNT were to play North Carolina, UNT would have no business on the field with that caliber of a team. Do you think that it would be excuseable for UNT to even score on them?? this is the kind of attitude that great programs in any sport have! It shouldn't happen! Plain and simple! A dumb foul in the box?? Sure it happens from time to time, but it shouldn't not at this level! The play has to be better, especially since these atheletes have been playing for so long! Just cause you are up 4 goals on a team, do you start to become lax and allow them to score? what if they end up tied at end of season and for what ever reason goals allowed is used?? Then a game early in ther season, which you had in hand and shouldn't have allowed an early minute goal, because the team wasn't ready to go at game time and they slacked off at the end of a game, suddenly comes into play and now you end up screwed. I have been taught by coaches to never leave anything for chance. If you have control of something make sure you do your best to make damn sure that nothing can come up and bite you in your butt later. By not being ready at game time and allowing a goal that had they been ready wouldn't have been scored, isn't taking care of business! it is a sign of weakness. that is something that they need to change but it comes with-in the team not the coaches. the coaches can get on them all they want but still doesn't gaurantee it happening. The girls need to get together and point out individually what they feel someone is doing wrong.. Don't just single people out, but everyone sit down and one at a time speak face to face and tell a person" hey i think you have been playing very lazy and you should be doing better!" it will work if they can keep their calm and without the coaches being there! that is what pro players do, they bring out the internal problems by talking! Now if someone gets defensive, that is probably why they are acting in the manner that they are! they aren't coachable. No one can say anything to that person and nothing will change!

So, what do some people think about UNT's chances of beating Denver this friday?? I am not sure what to think! the girls have had a good run so far, but haven't had any problems because the strength of schedule they have.. The Houtson game was a toss up? but other then that, they have beaten every one that they were supposed to. Now, you play a Denver team that is ranked Nationally and on a roll. Granted, both teams played on same day, but UNT gets a longer rest while Denver plays on Wednesday. That might be in favor of the ladies. Here are some interesting things to consider. Both teams beat Arkansas state- and little rock. UNT beat State 2-0 while Denver won 2-1??? Now, Against little-rock Denver only scored 4 goals while UNT scored 6, but UNT allowed 3 and Denver shut them out? they were both play at Little rock so the question of venue isn't an issue?? who knows what will happen?? I think that it might be a close game, depending on the girls attitude. If they aren't prepared mentally and ready to go for the game, it could be lopsided in Denvers favor. If they go in there tough and ready to go, they could blow Denver out! This game won't come down to the coaches and who out coaches who, but who wants it more on the field! This will be a war of atrition. Tell me what you think!

Hey Mean Green Fanatic you are right, but remember, when the football team never wins, the only people hearing the band will be the band because no one will be in the stands!
-
Hey reb, i never said that a band member should be judged by the shape that they are in. However hydration isn't the only thing that factors into heat stroke. A Largly obeese person isn't going to be able to handle heat, as a person who is only 150 pounds, in shape or not! I mean look at all sorts of events and show me a event that a over weight person or should i say an unfit person has more of an advantage then a thin in shape fit person! i know that it shouldn't matter, but my question is that since it probably is never questioned, would it make any difference?? if they in no way at all are they effected then hey every one should just shut up including be. Can it hurt? will it help? that is my question. It has nothing to do with ability to perform. I am sure they are good at it, if not they wouldn't be doing it.

Hey reb, i think that you have toomuch concern about recruiting. Most powerhouse teams have decent recruiting but they don't play as freshman! Some coaches believe in that and they don't believe in having freshman play, and having them wait there time. The difference is in coaches. Some coaches know how to get the most out of there players even though they aren't the greatest or well known. Those coacheds that have great recruiting classes might not knwo what to do with them as is the case with many schools. Houston and Tulsa may not have had much in a team as far as youare concerned, but wait till next year. they might surprise people! Also, Marin wasn't known as a incoming freshman and has made a name for herself, she is also having a very good year this year, conference has not started it's full swing yet, but expect teams next year no matter who you play( if they are a competative team) to shut her down! Even lowly Nicholls State kept her to nothing! as far as standing out in the game! that will happen more! watch out for these things!
-
that is cool, i understand. but i am not questioning the amounto weight that you lose? but, is it the same for everybody? no! so, and some people tend to be bigger and smaller and there eating habits all figure into someones health and there ability to withstand hot temperatures!! i know it isn't easy, but are there things that can be done that aren't? I want to know! not familiar with this!
-
Hey reb, you have a solid point. Also, what kind of excercise do these band members participate in? Are they even in decent shape?? they complain about sitting in 80 degree weather, but the players are in pads, running, and the temp on field especially on turf is hotter then 80 degrees? maybe you should be in better shape?? just an idea!??????????

well the fields in the mls aren't the same size cause some are soccer only so they made the field size set, everyone else plays in a football stdium which can onlt be made so wide if it is extended. SanJose can only make its field 65 wide and it is only 105 long! most world cup fields are all same size some very, but most run about 115x75, some can go up to 125x75. if you look at a world cup socecr field from above, it is almost square. So on world levels that is why the U.S. always plays in Rose Bowl or D.C., because those fields can be made into wider fields! Baesball fields aren't all same length, some have deeper outfields and some are shorter, that is why they are called hitters parks. but every thing else is same as far as infield! so yeah soccer is a sport on it's own. But those things are what make good teams great and others average, the ability to adapt. But the team can't do it with out coaching, so it falls back to the coach. Hey reb , the only i see about practicing on a wider field, is that it doesn't effect the way they play, cau sethe will still be in a 4-3-3, if it was on a smaller field you wouldn't see those gaps. On a larger you do, why? more space and that formation doesn't allow you to cover that much space, especially in womans game where there close down speed isn't what it is in mens! it probably wouldn't have been as appearant in mens game just cause the speed is at a higher level! so maybe those are things to take into consideration?? i might be wrong tell me what you think!
-
well reb, i really don't think that there is really any way to prepare for a different size field other then changing your formation to suit that field and most coaches and hedlund is no exception rarely change there formations. he uses a 4-3-3 and when you have only three mids across a 70-75 wide field, you have gaps. they practice and play on small narrow fields. They built those fields for a reason at UNT, they play into there game plan! and when UNT uses the new fields next year, it will still play into their game plan caues a foot ball field is only 60 wide aqnd most football fields don't have the extra width when they are built so you might not be able to extend and then you also take the length into consideration. UNT's field is what 105 long by 65 wide probably! And whenit comes down to it is that Marin couldn't get it done! an all-american candidate si that for a reason, they can adapt as a player! mayeb she isn't a dimensional as previously thought! remember all games to this point have been played at UNT? when you play SMU, will they play in Gerald Ford Stadium, that field is wide also, or will they play at Winscott field which isn't as wide as stadium? start thiking about this??? if the coach can't change to adapt to the field well, there isn't much more you can do!
-
it can heal in a few weeks but nobody knows how serious hers is?? i did my mcl and i was out for 2 months and spent 3 weeks on crutches! i had a grade 2 tear where it had almost completely torn? but people, you can't rush it it hurts like hell! and is i still have problems aqnd i did mine 6 years ago. also depending on how serious it is?? she might need rehab? but she difinetly can't play or preactice she coudl end up tearing it more or doing her acl along with it? then she is done for the year! i say she is out about amonth due to rehab that is needed
-
i hear her knee isn't all the good and it is a week to week basis so far >> who knows now a day with the way medicine is?? and another thing DENNDANN what was it in what i said that was not factual?? tell me and i might be able to prove you wrong but you have not given me anything to say i was false in what i said~????
-
hey reb also, Alyssa Carrier told me that the coaching staff told them to do so in not speaking to her! that is stright from the horses mouth! however monica has never in my presence or in me speaking to her bad mouthed UNT ! so why drag this girls name through the dirt! we all know how sports communities works! i can start a rumor and say something about UNT and if i tell the right people it willget back to them things travel and you know that! so why do it and call her name or criticize her! don't knock her down for trying to not so much justify her self, but to inform! would you have wanted to people know your side of a story?? we know the coaches?? ?? but will they tell you everything taht maybe monica did?? no !!no system will! that is athletics and business! that is what i feel! i am not sying the coaches are wrong or monica is right, but you automatically take ones side and do so with emotion cause she left the team and hey who knows why she really did it??? not the coaches only monica and certainly not us??!
-
I am not a UNT fan as you are, but i am a fan of those that play for UNT soccer! i happen to be friends with many of the girls and i support the girls in their play, but not the team! I could care less what Baylor does as long as monica plays well! i coudl care less if UNT ever wins another game as long as those that i am friends with play well and do not get injured! many times people become fans of franchises and not those who play or represent them! look at all the big name schools, people are fans of the school, not the players because years later when the players are gone they still remain loyal to the team name and not those who go on??? can anyone tell me without looking up information where the most recent UNT grad in soccer is playing? what team, any accomplishments they have achieved, maybe some can but not many! so i am a fan of the girls who work hard every day busting their butts of in hot afternoon sun, for the school to get a good name! bceause some of the best athletes are the quiet athletes that don't mak ebig plays and don't make there names well known but go out day in and day out and are consistent! take for instance UT's football team! their third string quarter back last couple of years (has really weird last name and i can't remember it right now!) never saw the field as a QB but was on special teams and led special teams in tackles! when they won, they never said hey we won because this game he made 4 great open field tackles they will say we won cause ricky williams did this, or chris simms did that! so i am not a fan of the teams them selves but those for play for it and there is a difference! i am friends with Randy Waldrum and he is currently head coach of notre dame i am a fan of his because he is a down to earth man and a very good coach! i was a fan of his when he was at Baylor! i will be a fan of his where ever he may go! so ?? i am a fan of no one except in basketball!!! I am a Duke Bluedevil fan and will be till i die! thatis why i only like to watch college sports, people play witha purpose and with passion not as in pros, cause if so,. they wouldn't seek those outrageous salaries that many do!
-
do you ever have anything nice to say ! if it bothers you , don't read the damn post!
