  1. This is not what coach Sue needs. NCAA rules prevent a college player from accepting even a $25 prize in a USTA amateur tournament, let alone a pro tournament. I know Baylor has had a problem wih this - don't know how they get away with it.
  2. Bowler, haven't heard a word about a final recruit leaning this way Talking about a 4-2-4 transfer, you can go from a 4 yr to a 2 yr and back to a 4 yr school as long as you graduate from the 2 yr school, whether it's one or two yrs there. Don't need the 1st school's release to play, and once enrolled at the 2 yr school it's like being in high school all over again - the player can talk to other coaches, go on recruiting trips, etc. Not a bad solution for a player that made a bad initial choice. Heard from Houston that the Arizona girl got 40 hours out of the way in a year and got 2 CC degrees. Some of those good JUCO players you mentioned are too old. Heard from a D1 coach that the 5 years of eligibility now has to start when you turn 20. One of those players is 24 already. Coach Sue already has one age violation problem and doesn't need more.
  3. It has been reported from a reliable source that Wasson has signed with Houston for the upcoming season. Evidently she wasn't homesick as reported when she left here - probably just fed up with the unprofessional conduct by DP. Reported to have played at a community college because of RV's concealed no release policy. As a 4-2-4 transfer she wouldn't need his release to go from there back to a D-1 school.
  4. Wrong - negotiations took a while and the hire was complete before the announcement cited. He resigned just like DP resigned. Don't buy the hype - Look at the tournament results. You don't sweep the tournament by playing in Flight B where the play is not as strong as Flight A. It was a victory, but the author misrepresented the accomplichment.
  5. Have you noticed the factual errors on the tennis portion of meangreensports in the 2-8-07 article?? UNT did not win over sam Houston last year, as reported. UNT lost 3-4. Their foreigners were better than our foreigners. At the Houston Quad Day last fall UNT's #1 doubles team won flight "B" not flight "A" where all the good teams were playing. Not exactly the sweep that was reported. By the way, Sue didn't resign. They had the new caoch hired as soon as he announced his resignation. You're right about 1-3 playing 4-6. More to come about DP's exercise regimen and the link being discovered to current injuries.
  6. Very good point. I still believe the coaches take the foreigners because the coaches are lazy and don't want to put the effort into recruiting americans. You don't have to organize recruiting trips. The foreigners are waiting by the phone, waiting for the american coachs to call. The discouaging side of all these sweeps is that at his last job coach Sue inherited a strong team and slowly took it down hill until he was out. Tough to go much further down hill here. I wonder if a division 1 team has ever failed to score throughout a season?
  7. Win at any cost? Foreign professionals? Taxpayers and american players be damned? Foreigners with better work ethic? What a bunch of crap. The german girl didn't have the grades to be on the team this year. The truth is that coaches bring in foreigners because the coach is lazy. It takes a lot more competitive effort to recruit a good american player. Biggest risk with the foreigners is whether they get off the plane and show up. If the coach turns out to be a bum, american players are't as easily controlled.
  8. Anybody bothered by all the foreigners getting scholarships paid for by Texas taxpayers? This was coach Sue's history before coming to UNT.
  9. It may be worse than that. Ever notice that the coach does not list the birthday of the girl from Brazil on the roster, while birthdays are listed for all the other girls. If she's too old, they could be down to 3 players, or they could be in deep trouble if they played an ineligible player. Any more to the rumor that RV's contract is not being renewed?
  10. Several problems with tennis this year. Lost their #1 and 2 players because of DP, and #3 player left at semester due to DP. If RV had gotten rid of DP earlier, they might have kept the top players. Lama took over a good program at UI, it slowly went downhill, and his record last year was similar to UNT. UI had a coach hired very quickly after his announced departure. We'll be lucky if the team does as well as last year.
  11. Hey, we're up to 8 pages - maybe this rally can go for 15 - maybe 20. I'm afraid the word about DP and RV's conduct this year has spread around to other D1 schools and has a damaging impact. Players in the Northwest and Southwest are also going to contact those who left before deciding to come here. They're going to find out that transferring out of here is difficult due to RVs no-release policy. The'll learn about the conduct of the coach and see it as a reflection on the AD. Our coach has been the source of ridicule from other coaches - even officials. I think it's going to take a few years to clear the air.
  12. Which means the coach was fired because he made that player go through the appeals process.
  13. Do you really think she resigned so she could be the secretary/assistant at Baylor? She got fired - give it a rest. Big pressure on RV now - another royal screw up and he'll be an assistant at Baylor too.
  14. Isn't Baylor the place where a player was discovered to be a foreign pro and suspended for a year? I wonder if Baylor is also looking for a new AD?
