Look! Either way, Dickey was gone as the coach for UNT! It’s better this way, we have a losing season and there is no doubt for the need of a new coach. When Dickey was winning, his main concern was advancing to a bigger school for more money (Rick V. knew this and that put the bulls eye on Dickey’s chest). In the process of waiting for his promotion, he quite recruiting and building a solid team. You’re only as good as the talent on the field, and our athletes are not any better than they were five years ago. If UNT is going to compete on a Conference USA and national level, we must recruit better athletes! We need a good assistant from a big time program to come in here and take control of this team and “recruiting”. There are many good assistants that would love an opportunity to be the coach of UNT and contact has already been made anticipating this change. You might be surprised as to whom Rick V. has spoken to regarding the situation. Unfortunately, we’ll have to rebuild…very disappointing for our Mean Green program, but there’s really no other way to get us to the next level.

It would cost as much to refurbish fouts as it will to build a new stadium...that has already been determined a while back by the athletic department.

Rick V. makes all personnel decision regarding his direct reports. Darrell has already been told that he's out with another loosing season. A non-competitive football team will not be tolerated by Rick. Wait and see...

Many of you are unaware of what's actually going on with the stadium. Rick can not at this time make any confirmed statements about the actual capital campaign... but, I assure you this (building the stadium) is going to happen within the six year period, if not sooner... an announcement will be made this spring regarding all plans for the stadium. Be patient!!! Something everyone needs to remember, we have reconstructed facilities that should have been done twenty years ago...you can thank Rick V. and a few others, for this astonishing turn around. Rick understands how to hire good people for half the cost at other places, knows how to direct the building of facilities and has a vision...and, we're getting him very cheep comparatively speaking. Hope he doesn't leave or we'd be in big trouble, I can assume you of that as well! We are in very goods hands with Rick V.! By the way, Darrell Dickey will be gone before or at the end of this season. Take that to the bank!!!

Attendance is not where we want to be as of yet, but future scheduling and hopefully more wins will dramatically increase our season averages in the future. Our goal is to get into Conference USA. If that happens, you will see a dramatic increase for sure. How long that takes is anyone's guess...

As I said, in a previous post. If Dickey doesn't have a winning record this coming season, he's gone for sure. This game is very important to his keeping his job. He will be prepared and so will Phil Bennett for SMU. They're both on the hot seat for their respective programs. Both could be fired next season as well... It's probably going to come down to the talent on the field. UNT 21, SMU 17.

One comment about KSU's support and other Big 12 programs...firstly, if we had been playing Oklahoma and Nebraska for the last 75 years we too would have big crowds no matter what our record was as well. Our program does not compare with a big 12 program, plain and simple! Our recent support has been "better" than at ANY time in our history of playing football, including the Hyden Fry era. This has happen as a result our winning games, you have to give that credit to Dickey! Secondly, we currently have tremendous support from the UNT administration. From the president, to having one of the best athletic directors in the country. Be happy for what we have!!! Now, as long as we have the support of the administration and a commitment to hire good people, we're going to get better and better. If Dickey doesn't have a winning record next year, I know for a fact, he's gone. The athletic director will hire a good coach to continue our success. Good coaches are not hard to find, they're a lot of good division 1-A assistants and many good division 1-AA head coaches we can afford and recruit. And, they'd would love to come to Denton to coach the Mean Green... and, make the money Dickey makes. Again, be happy and let's wait and see what happens next year...
