If this season becomes really special, 12-0 and we win the conference championship, get into the top 25 (if we win this week and next we're there for sure) watch out! Dream season would be to play USC in the Cotton bowl!!! Belly up and donate money to the mean green scholarship foundation, any amount can help to sustain this success. BTW, I gave an extra $15,000. on Monday, do your part now!

Dan is right but I think those days are over and if we (president and AD) pick right on the next coach we should be good to go!

I have not posted in a few years, happen to see this subject about the 68 game. Interesting story and true, about 10 years ago went duck hunting with a group in Arkansas, some from Texas and others from Arkansas, after the hunt, went back to the hunting lodge for lunch and fellowship (governor of Arkansas was there) anyway, a fellow hunter whom I just met ask where I went to school and I told him UNT in Denton. By his surprise, he said, "man, do I have a story for you, he continued to tell me he played for the 1968 team for Arkansas and said, I sure as hell remember North Texas, he asked me if I remember the 1968 game they played, I said no, didn't know they ever played. He said, he played safety, said he'd never seen such fast receivers including any previous opponent, and for that matter, he never play against any black guys...He said, coach came up garbed his face mask and said, what the hell are you doing out there, your getting beat on every play, his response, I can't keep up with the guy, he's fucking too fast! Needless to say, the Arkansas team had great respect for that UNT '68 team. He said, that was one of the best teams they played all year...

First, as usual, the athletic department did a poor job contacting all the MGC members; short notice and hardly anyone invited I'm surprised 100 showed up (they planned it this way I'm sure). I know, as a major donor, I was not contacted, found out about it on Tuesday when I happen to read the Denton Record Chronicle on-line. I let Chip know this as we have spoken via email several times, trust me, it was duly noted.

Benford is a disaster, never should have been hired; I don't care if we go 30-0, he needs to go at the end of the season, definitely build off next years team with a new coach that can recruit talent and coach... Benford, is just plain bad, put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig!

Look! Hank is fricking awful! He's negative towards the alumni and the program; he's just beat down from frustration and lack of success in his career, he's a very good sports announcer (stay with that Hank), but he's no business man! We need a CEO running athletics; Hank is no CEO...

John Nitardy, speaking of which, I have to tell this story about this idiot, the last time we played Texas in Austin, you know when we were completely embarrassed, Texas had a really bad team that year (Charley Strong's first year) and we started a quarterback that couldn't start for Southlake Carroll? Can't even remember the spares name, anyway, UNT had a pre-game event on the campus of UT. Hang on I'm getting to John, I went and as usual, it was poorly done, no band or music, no excitement, just a joke; they had this awful barbecue, that had been sitting there for no telling how long, well anyway, they run out for eating utensils and Ice, half the people that paid were sill in line waiting to get food, when all of a sudden this John guy starts telling everyone the buffet is over, he said, we're out of eating utensils, someone yelled, so, go get more, he got mad and started to pick plates up and throw them on the ground. Needless to say, he made an ass out of himself and it was just very uncomfortable for everyone standing in line. This is the guy running the Mean Green Club? He needs to exit the door with Hank Dickerson...and, yes, I completely agree with the original post, lets aspire to go big eventually and to get in a G-5 conference or just give up on the football program...at least have goals to do this eventuall, we shouldn't settle for mediocrity.

We absolutely should play G5 teams, but must be a home and home period!

First, Hank doesn't have a chance as an AD, this guy is completely negative towards the alumni and is a boy scout when it comes to business. No experience doing this at the CEO level; the AD position is essentially the CEO of the athletic department. Same crap, different day, with Hank. Scheduling, the other C-USA schools are scheduling good teams to their stadiums (home and home), why not UNT. Rick has completely screwed this up, what ever he was doing it wasn't working, plain and simple. Get someone that better understands the dynamics of scheduling and making a deal; you have to be proactive and solicit other schools, not sit on your ass waiting for the phone to ring. 65 scholarships, complete unacceptable, I don't know who to blame on that one? Lastly, you have to start advertising and promoting home games, Rick said, "the alumni and citizens of Denton need to step-up and come to home games", right, you have to give them a reason for coming and we need to be playing teams that people want to see; TCU, SMU, Houston, Texas State, OSU, K-State, Iowa State and the like. A few marquis games ever season is a must; lastly, we need to win!!!

Hank is a nice person with a bad attitude, he has run big money donors off, myself included. He just doesn't have the skill set to do this job effectively, we need someone that has a "yes we can" demeanor, Hank is beat down and only stays because no one else wants him...sorry, but this is true, he's "Rick's boy" nothing will change if he's put in this position.

No big 5 schools from Texas? Are you crazy, you really think one of these school would have more fans at our stadium than UNT? People want to come to these games, UNT fans live for games like this, no way we don't fill the stadium with our people. Texas Tech, TCU, Okie state and the like will bring our program to new heights, other CUSA teams are doing it on a regular basis, no more games scheduled without a home and home, period! Rick has no negotiating skills, this is why he needs to be gone! He also ran potential and current donors off, myself included...BTW, Hank Dickenson is just as bad; these guys have awful attitudes, we must clean house now! BTW, we should be playing Houston at least every other year!!!

Remember Russel Wilson is only 5'11" plays for the Sea hawks...

Dodge can't beat better talent, but he can recruit better talent...give him a few years and we're going up-set some BCS teams like we should have in the last nine years. Our facilities are getting better and the stadium is coming...wait and watch fellows!

UNT had 47,000 @ Texas stadium when they played A&M a few years ago. TCU is no big dog like they'd like to think...w/out the SWC they're average at best in fan support. Better than UNT, but not that far ahead of us. They may have to eat their words in a few years...I remember when they went 0&12, what was their average attendance that year???

Rick, Just a quick note of my support to you and your decision to terminate coach Dickey. I agree completely of his firing; the program can now move forward forthwith. I trust you'll find someone with Texas high school recruiting experience; perhaps someone from a well respected division-1A program. Again, thanks for your decision. We all needed this change! Go Mean Green!

No one ask Dickey to beat Texas or Oklahoma...just be competitive! 67-3 is not competitive (it's a complete embarrassment to UNT football and the entire athletic program) and shows the lack of talent, size and speed he recruited. There's plenty of talent in the state of Texas if you're willing to go get it...Dickey got lazy, plain and simple. Here's another thing, Dickey was also insubordinate to his boss and many others. You can do that if you're winning big, but anything less, you're gone!!!

Dickey's gone for this exact reason... smart ass not only to the players, but to his boss and many others. Lack of winning of course! He’s a lazy ass, didn’t recruit worth a damn the last four years… He thought he was going to get another job at a bigger program and be gone! We’re much better off without him! We’ll recover from this very quickly…now; let Rick V. do his job! He knows exactly what he’s doing! Anything will be better than Dickey!!!

Look! We have the budget to recruit in all parts of Texas…coach Dickey simply got lazy and took his eye off the ball; that’s the result of his firing. We should get our share of top 100 recruit in the state. In football as in business…you’re only as good as your last game! Thank god he’s now gone!

Darrell Dickey got cocky…He needed to go! Thank god he’s gone…now let’s move to the next level! This needed to happen and I told you so!
