  1. We did do great offensively, could have been 8 goals if we would have finished up chances early on. On the other hand, by the same token, had La La finsished up their obvious chances, could have been a closer game. We defended the chances well to our credit, but the chances were still do to some loose defending. We have to tighten it up against MTSU- who by the way looked quite flat in their win over USA. USA deserved a better fate, they just could not knock the ball into the net. Hedlund was quite confident in the NTDaily thursday edition, almost talkin smack. However, Hedlund does not see MT as too much of an obstacle in NT's championship defense. "I wasn't too impressed with Middle," Hedlund said. "Anyone who was at that game saw that we just let it go. We should have beaten them." Hmmmmm....Should be a good match, and we really should beat them!
  2. Coach of the Year: Jeff Hooker (Denver)
  3. Juett and Hutyra made first team All SBC, Hurst and Ellis made second team. Juett was edged out for Freshman of the year by MTSU's Zapapas. Juett was only freshman to make the first team, Zapapas made 2nd team.........go figure that one! Congrats to the team, the players and the coaches for another excellent season. Hope we can win the tourney this weekend!! I'm there!
  4. No worries on any of this any longer. Gonna have to win three in a row to even have a shot at getting back into any poll....... we really flamed out at the wrong time.
  5. 3rd seed, gonna get 6 which is LA La (host team on home turf, squeaked out a win there early season). Gonna be a tough one, very physical opening game to have to play before you get MTSU in second round. Gonna be on fumes for Denver if we get into finals.
  6. Yeah, Ole Miss--- 1-2-3 in last 6 games. 7-6-5 0verall, more ties and losses. Top 15 you bet. And they beat Arkansas prior to the six game roll they are on.....Geez
  7. I just can't be convinced that we go 12 to 17, based on the records of others in this list....... Arkansas, come on???? Guess it is too much to think that 3 lowly Sunbelt conf teams could be that good...... MTSU beat us on the road, broke a UNT winning streak and broke a huge UNT home winning streak spanning parts of three seasons. Do not be fooled that they are a 14 team either. Stat wise they are better in performance than their ranking indicates or many others above them for that matter. Guess we can climb all the way back to our original 15 if we can beat Denver ..... I'm betting Denver will fall all the way to the same position if we win.
  8. Except the seeding could kill us by ending up in third.......still should have won the game. We should have been ahead 3-0 in first 15 minutes....If we could just finish.....
  9. Or Mississippi, or Nebraska, or Vandy......and remember MTSU had the same weekend record we did.
  10. As a matter of fact, good question. I'm very interested in that too. And, there are several local kids that are nearing the end of JC eligibility that might be real good players to have on a start up program. Pitchers in particular, and some with UNT interests, like girlfriend UNT students and parent alumni..... Wish we would get this one going. I think it could be like women's soccer, north Texas area is a good hotbed for club and HS baseball talent. And, I also believe there is one area coach with a significant winning record that would be a great candidate for the job. Good recruiter, placed a lot of HS kids in college programs. Would be a great guy at probably the right price for this school. Someone will get him soon, should be us! Actually 2 or 3 come to mind.......
  11. Great idea, hope we can get some interest in that. We had a great crowd last Friday, nearly 600....very supportive and vocal too.. Two big games. WKY has posted 6 straight shutouts in conference, and MTSU brings in the number one scoring offense in the country and the leading scorer in the nation. Should be an interesting challenge against two very different teams with two very different styles of play and strengths.
  12. Maybe, but I dunno with the way the three above us keep hangin in. Neither Nebr nor Miss (maybe Vandy too) has a chance in hell of getting out of conf, yet they continue to be the darlings. I'll wager right now that if Denver wins out, and UNT are #2 there will be only one. If Denver is #1 and MTSU is # 2, they will take two because the MTSU offense numbers are sexy. I'll wager we have to win out if we are going to go....
  13. Note to the AD: Fans would appreciate the improvement from Gumbo mud concession and bathroom area to concrete or at worst crushed white rock for next season. The long, wet aluminum ramp to the stands, combined with the slippery, muddy entry to the complex made for some dangerous footing on the ramp and messy muddy clothing to go with the already wet conditions. I was most concerned for the elderly fans that had to negotiate the ramp with an inch of mud added to the footwear. Dangerous!!
  14. Congrats to VB team, great news to hear!!
  15. We found out if we can play in the rain and wind, and the groungs crew found out where the drainage and offseason field leveling can be focused. All serious, field held up quite well and we should be pleased to have it in such good shape after the summer we have had. Kudos to the ground crew! GMG Soccer, another great weekend on the pitch, rain or shine we look real fine!
  16. Looks like the scheduler is still working against us! Maybe next year we can change this........
  17. OK, so MTSU goes to Denver 10/20 before coming to UNT on Sunday 10/22. UNT game should be a chance to knock MTSU into 3rd and cinch a showdown with Denver, in Denver, or a chance to at least clinch a 3 way tie for conference champs. That will be a tough Denver game in the altitude. I almost hope MTSU can somehow knock off Denver in Denver, I think Denver are the better team, and give us a chance to beat MTSU at home and go into Denver a full game ahead of Denver and MTSU. A tie will then win it, and Denver vs. UNT may very well be a defensive struggle that will earn a tie anyway. Can't ignore Western Ky role in this either, they will be playing all three leaders over the same last three game perioid, all on the road. But, they have registered 4 straight shutouts in SBC play in the last 4 games, last two were on the road. UNT cannot look past this team to MTSU, even if playing them at home. This is as good of a Conf race as it gets, hope to get a great student body and alum turnout!. This is a really exciting team, hope we can get good promo and attendance for this homestand, and we can head into Denver with momentum to earn a championship! The final leg starts Friday at home with Ark St, see everyone there??
  18. My bad on the post, gotta get my eyes fixed, two weeks in a row, gonna have to go to bad post timeout........Real good question on Denver I got into last week. They seem to be someone's darling..... How about colorado, Saint Louis, Vandy, or Mississippi. You could make a case for having all 3 SBC teams in the top 10. Miss or Vandy have lost or tied half of their games! And Colorado almost has. I'm still not sure what they are looking at.........I don't care who you play, that right there is not top 10 regional play.
  19. Soccer Buzz Weekly Soccer Rankings Looks a little better this week, GMG!!!!!
  20. Agreed...this is the stretch where we want the faithful out in force. We need big, vocal crowds to help run this thing out. We have taken care of the road business until the final game in Denver. We now have the proverbial home field advantage for the rest of the conf schedule until Denver. We need the "extra man". This weekend, Troy fans kept the energy up and sustained the home team effort against the Mean Green. We need to be better, louder than the crowds we see on the road just because of who we are. Can anyone get this ratcheted up to the marketing or athletic dept folks to try to get some promo amongst the MGN? Would be really cool to have 700 or so there, especially for the MTSU game coming up soon!!
  21. True, and a very good ranking, but we are better than that and deserve the recognition. 1) it does carry impact in the soccer community and is good for recruiting, and 2) we may very well be good enough to move up the national ranks later if we are moving up at this juncture of the season in the regional, which would be real good for the university and great for recruuiting. There is some very bizzare thinking on these rankings at this time. Did a little more on this last night. We were in the top 64 preseason projected NCAA tournament qualifiers, some of these teams ahead of us in todays rankings are not even there either.Seems to me that given our performance to date, UNT would be worthy of a higher regional slot. We certainly have not underplayed our expectation! We are winning, and losses to USC, Nebraska, and tie with SMU certainly should not hurt us based on their rankings at the time and leave us status quo, given the more recent weaker performance of others ahead of us. Grand Green was right, based on the recent performance against very same 4 teams, we should be at least as good as the Denver ranking. I would think a notch higher, given our preseason rank in conference. Maybe a notch lower if you give the grambling TIE (not a loss) too much weight. Ok I convinced myself, lets call it UNT at #10....I'm going with that!
  22. My bad LSU at 12.....still BS And colorado College lost to Smu and they are still at 11.
  23. Worse yet, go to www.nscaa.com/encouraging excellence/college rankings, find and check the regional top 10 Central...Denver at 9, SMU at 8, and LSU at 10, who did not even make the Buzz Top 15???? We have tied SMU, and were preseason ranked over Denver. LSU has 4 losses. Looking at our scoring, we are ahead of Denver in national scoring per game......What gives.......
  24. NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference office announced today that North Texas Mean Green junior forward Heather Hutyra has been named the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Player of the Week. The junior from Fort Worth, Texas picked up her third career back-to-back multi-goal performance scoring two goals on September 29th against Florida International and then again scoring two goals on October 1st against Florida Atlantic. Denver, Middle Tennessee and North Texas all continued their Sun Belt Conference dominance this weekend. Denver posted 5-1 and 5-0 wins over FAU and FIU respectively while the Mean Green started 4-0 in conference play for the third time since joining the league, defeating FIU 5-1 and FAU 4-0. Middle Tennessee improved to 10-2 and 4-0 SBC over the weekend after scoring 16 goals in two games against South Alabama and Troy. The Blue Raiders came into the weekend as one of the country’s top scoring offenses and left near the top as well. They have scored 50 goals on the season so far in only 12 games for an average of 4.17 goals per game which puts them second nationally. North Texas and Denver are also in the top 25 scoring offenses as North Texas ranks 16th with 30 goals scored (2.50/game) and Denver sitting at 23rd with 26 goals scored (2.36/game). Action continues this weekend as we enter the final month of regular season play. The Johnny Carino’s Sun Belt Conference Soccer Championship will be held November 1-4 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette soccer facility. The top eight teams will compete for the Sun Belt Conference automatic bid to the NCAA Soccer Tournament. The entire SBC tournament will be web cast live at www.sunbeltsports.org.
  25. Especially considering the poorer results of some of the others in the rankings. Hard to figgur fer sure!
