Update for some of the recruits... Post season All Area awards by DMNews, published in today's School Day sectiion. Dvorak and Juett named to DMNews All Area 2nd team (you could easily make an argument that both should have been 1st team selections, based on the published statistical criteria). Juett named First Team All District, and Offensive MVP of District 10-5A . Dvorak was voted Best Defender District 6-5A, and First Team All district 6-5A. Ellie Lyon named to First Team All district 8-5A as midfielder. Melanie Peterson named Co-Goalkeeper of the Year for District 5-5A and First Team All District 5-5A.

I am ready to see the WC games, I just started reading up on the mid level teams to understand their strengths and weaknesses. You use the word consistent, and that is the key, particularly offensively. Arena seems to be uncomfortable with his depth options at forward. While we have good players and can strike quickly and in highlight fashion, as a unit they can struggle, and there is a lot of youth in that group. Still not sure if EJ is healthy, I think he has only one MLS goal this season. Twellman? Wolfe? Beasley has had limited work with the team. Key question is who will step up and assume leadership of this team, and I think that is also a big concern for Arena. Will it be Donovan? If you are interested, there is a very informative World Cup program running on FoxSports Soccer channel this month profiling a lot of players, teams, and behind the scenes efforts for 2006 WC. Sorry I can't remember the name of the program, but I saw it last Sunday, was real good. Hope you can find it and watch it.

I did see some of the prelim games, but none in the stadium. I have been to several FCD games, and it is a really great venue for soccer. I know a member of the management team with Hunt Sports Group. Soon there will also be a concert schedule released for national music acts (think Nokia or Smirnoff), and they are trying to set up some college games and additional international matches as well. I think this would be a great place to have a women's soccer tourney too, or an NCAA round (hint)? I think I'll drop that hint too. Maybe UNT/SMU women could square off here next year??
-
Really surprised no one has jumped on this topic, but I'm gonna..... this makes for another good team UNT women have beaten in the Spring. Only real tail whippin' was to A & M early..... Steady play from defense and clutch scoring .... add the new talent and this team will be fast, deep, and have a solid game from back to front. Gonna look good wrapped around that new stadium....Maybe late round NCAA's?? Ya think?
-
OK, but in the case of the golf teams finishing second for instance, are there at- large berths for programs deemed to have performed worthy of an NCAA berth, such as in basketball, even though they did not win the conference championship? Thanks
-
Great! Then we should be justified in our excitement! Hope the program can build on this!
-
Actually, I think your earlier comments ("Whats Wrong.......") probably clears up my question. I think I get it, and seems to be a root cause of poor coach hire choices and the trickledown you get from that....would that be your opinion?
-
Help me on this too...... how many scholarship players do we have, and is the team predominantly made up of walk ons? Trying to get a feel for the spring programs as I read the posts.
-
Mixed feelings here, based on the post from yesterday, looks like the women faded late, and the men had an impressive rally only to stumble in the playoff holes. While the end finish is good and provides some excitement, it is too bad that either our inexperience or overmatched talent in the clutch failed the program. Help me here.... does this provide for an NCAA tourney berth, as in other team sports. Sorry, I like golf but do not follow the College game......

Final update to this string..... Creekview loses to Katy Taylor in State Final, Juett also scored in this match, and made the 5A All State Tournament Team
-
Juett scored the gamewinner, got behind the Marcus defense just after halftime and scored on breakaway, and Creekview advances to the finals. Nothing shabby about Lyon's effort either, she showed extremely well.
-
It was a god article. And, this should be a very good matchup tomorrow, a very good Marcus defense against one of the better offensive players in the state. Creekview is very good defensively too. Should be a good chess match. Here is another interesting thread. Juett and Lyon also played together at one time a few years back on Solar 88. There is that Solar link again......

NT soccer loses to China in 1-0 snoozer

Rick, imagine what a few young, excited college chums would have done had there been a shootout. Might have given a Mean Green meaning to the term "shootout"! Good Story. -

600-800 is awesome for a college soccer game any time, especially for short spring season! Kudos to the marketing team!!! I think the average attendance last season was aound 400 per game, and that led the conference. Maybe this excitement will carry over to the next year! Need to shoot for SRO on home opener.....keep spreadin' the word tailgaters! -
UNT Women defeated an equally talented, much more sizeable OU squad in a spring matchup 4-3 on Saturday in Mckinney at the Panda Cup. At one point, UNT was up 3-0 before OU rallied to tie late in second half. UNT responded to the challenge by scoring again before end of regulation to ice the win. The team looks strong, fast, and is demonstrating its player versatility in these games. Regarding the China national team appearance in Denton this Tuesday, this will be a good game to watch. Go get some pizza and watch some internatiional stars in the making. I was also able to watch the Chinese play this weekend against Sting '89 and Sting '88 . They are a very fast, disciplined team and will provide a good, entertaining challenge for UNT. Hope to see you there!!

Update on one of the commits discussed previously.... Kendall Juett is at 21 goals scored for the HS season, with playoffs still to go. This should go together nicely with Hutyra and Lunsford and Campbell on scoring capabiliities.

Hope24 or anyone.....Any late signees or walk on adders since the last web posting?

I believe Piper had left sometime after season, believe I saw where she went to another school. Maybe Zakel tooka long look at that program and decided this was a great opp as compared to the reality of that program. -

Who can enlighten us on the new hire, is it alum, or best available? -
The Solar players have not played for him. John coaches boys in Solar. Many of the girls have played in the same club at various times, Kevin Smith is however the director of coaching for the entire Solar club, and is a good evaluator of talent. I think Adams is a A & M Commerce transfer, not A & M.
-
shockey is a real good player from a highly ranked 2006 Plano West team, and Dallas Texans, and Petersen is a good keeper, playes with Juett on 88 Sting. this just in, Juett was a Dallas Morning News runner up player of the week for this past week, 6 goals 1 asst, two games (2 hat tricks). Check the DMNwebsite, or Monday DMN
-
Well ,sort of. Not that he grooms them, none have played directly for him nor Kevin, I think that the Solar style of player just fits his team style, and Kevin Smith's coaching direction for Solar club coaches is what ultimately grooms the player. John is the benefactor in that he can follow the player more closely, understand the player character and chemistry. I believe that recruit transfer Waters also played Solar. While the Solar club itself has not had a lot of team success in the last several years, there have been a good amount of college-quality players that John had and will have a chance to follow closely. There is a hotbed of talent in the Soccer Clubs of Texas, particularly North Texas area, not just Solar, and he will never have a shortage of quality prospects at UNT.
