I hope so too, I'd like to see the programs start to have year over year success. Looking at the conference today for soccer, gonna be 4 really tough games, based on current records and what you could expect from the programs. Three are at home (W. Kent, Fl Atl, and M.Tenn St), and one on road (Denver). We really need to build those games up with Alum and students and get big crowds for those games. We also need a rowdy student section in the parking lot along the outer fence, think we could get the football guys to wear green and line the fence and make a lot of noise, horns?? Think they will let us? Maybe there are some alums that still have it left in 'em, can we get them out there? Sept 29 is Mid Tenn St, lets break that out on 'em, eh?

Pretty good crowd too, at least 350 or so.
-
Hey, you should wait for the Grambling game on Friday. Beat them 6-0 last year at home, and we did call the dogs off on that one. If we get 32 shots off against them Sunday, that could be a double digit win.....should be a laugher.

Bench players got about 15 minutes each half, substituted entire bench each half all at once. It just got rolling second half, we buried some really good shots. Halftime was close. Bench needed to get some extended minutes before conference, it was a good game for that.

DENTON, Tex. (9/15/06) – The North Texas women’s soccer team scored two early first half goals and never looked back in the 2-0 win over Northwestern State at the North Texas Soccer Field. The Mean Green (4-2-1) extended its unbeaten streak at home to 18 games with the win. North Texas dominated play throughout the game, outshooting the Demons 32-6. The 32 shots in the game are the ninth most in school history at North Texas. Freshman Kendall Juett gave North Texas a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play off a feed from Heather Hutyra that threaded the Demon’s defenders. Senior Tiffany Adams made it 2-0 Mean Green two minutes later when she was left alone on the weak side of the Demons net for an easy score. North Texas had countless chances throughout the second half to extend its lead but could not. Hutyra ended the game with a career-high 11 shots. In a very physical contest, Northwestern State had 24 fouls in the game. Goalkeeper Kandice Ellis had to make only one save on the night to pick up her 10th career shutout. The shutout for Ellis moves her up to third all-time in school history. North Texas returns to action on Sunday, September 17 at Grambling State in its final non-conference game of the season. Pretty well dominated this one, could have been double digits if we had any accuracy at all. One goal was called back for offsides. Brutal second half, luckily no injuries for UNT. Red Card to NWLA player late second half.

Real good half indeed. We also had three shots blocked or deflected that could easily have been goals . Juett was denied point blank on 1v1 with keeper in 2nd half, and Waters hit the cross bar in first half on restart from about 25 yards. Hutyra had three straight volley/rebounds blocked from outside the six on one play sequence in first half too. Couple of breaks and the first half could have looked like the second. I was also very impressed with the way the bench players moved the ball when they subbed into the game first and second half. I thought they actually connected passes and moved the ball player to player better than the starters did! See everyone there tonight. Come out and support the team. There may be some key recruits there tonight too, so lets try to show a warm, lively home crowd attendance so we do our part to impress!!!

Good effort from the team this past weekend. Like SMU game, really could have won or tied the Nebraska game if someone could have marked Timken (3 goals) once. USC just gave us an old fashion butt whippin'. Could not generate any offense, and several players were half lame from leg maladies. Defense played well against USC and kept the game close, marking was better in 2nd game too. While the losses were a disappointment, the games were good skill sharpeners and we were playing much faster soccer by end of the tournament, thanks to the pressure defenses of both Nebraska and USC. See everyone at TWU match I hope on Wed night? I think we met the stated goal ( Playing good soccer and attacking the goal are two things Hedlund feels are vital aspects of this weekend's games. , hope we can find the net a few more times this week!

Tough indeed...I'll be there for the game, want to see the offense get untracked. We do need to manage possession better with connected passes and look for the weak side switch to jump the attack. It has been there every game, but we have struggled with connecting the pass to the weak side player, or with possessing long enough (or too long) to release the ball. Side note: We need to win more 50-50 balls in the air, our win ratio on contested headers is horrible, and two competitor's goals this year have come from corners won on the back post. SMU missed a couple of others Sunday. Looking for more aggressive play here too! Looking for a win with Nebraska, and a draw with USC if we can win more balls in the air.

However, thought SMU was a bit more impressive than Houston. Will be a good Conference race there. Encouraged by our play against two real good teams. I did not think our offensive game was as sharp against SMU as was against Houston. Had we gotten that sharper effort, might could have won the SMU game.

I believe they got the assist wrong here, believe Juett crossed to Hurst who pushed it back to Campbell for the strike. I'll check the official stats when they are posted.

Not posted yet, but I'd venture to say we had 300 easy. Pretty good. But this is an exciting team that has not yet played their best soccer. Lundsford, Hutyra, Hurst and Campbell are not yet 100% from nagging minor injury issues. Juett is the real deal, exciting ball skills and fast. Her goal last night was highlight reel! Campbell's shot was money. Defense is shaping up, Houston was fast and rough, we played them head up and won, coming from behind. We need to get the word out to more folks. Concessions are upgraded, and what college kid would not want nachos and hot dogs instead of dorm food on Friday nite or Sunday afternoon? C'mon ... Looked to me like we are getting a few more student athletes than last year, maybe due to the closer proximity of the dorm? Wish we could get more of the soccer alum too. Good stuff!

Struggling a bit with consistency on both ends of field. Fighting through a few injuries, some new offensive and defensive personnel changes, and two new coaches on staff. We'll get there. I think our fitness is in question right now, and due to the excessive game heat and heavy training schedule, we are going flat and tired mid game. Looked much stronger at end of game against Tex St and controlled the run of play for the last 4-5 minutes when game was still in question. We have had ample scoring chances so far in the games we have played, just not finishing them off. Could have beaten Tex St by another 3-4 goals easy. That being said, we also could have been tied. Same for OU and Alumni games. Missed many high percentage chances that could have us sitting with 2 preseason wins to go along with the season opener. This week will begin a solid non-conf test with Houston and SMU. We will see about our progress in all of the above against two pretty good teams. I think all and all, we will be ready to roll come conference play and we should have strong offense and solid defense well tuned by then. Non-Conf is tough and should be way more competitive than what we will see in general for conf play. I look for non-conf record to be average at best, could also be real good, but the level of competition should prepare us for excellence in conference play. I like the player additions, some good talent there, and getting immediate contributions. Everyone out for Houston on Thurs and SMU on Sunday!!!!

Game notes are up, good stats and history for those new to the program. How many fellow alums and supporters will make it to San Marcos for the season opening match with Texas State. The Volleyball team is at Texas State this weekend too, hope those supporters can be there for the soccer team, and I am going to try to make it early enough to see the v-ball team! http://www.meangreensports.com/pdf5/41350....&DB_OEM_ID=1800

Was a pretty good game. UNT looked a little ragged, but in spite of the fact Hutyra did not play, we kept the game close. One could argue that it was even at best. Still, I think OU was a bit more organized and had a very good counterattack, and finished their chances. There was a great crowd on hand! The Alumni game was a disappointment, but that Alumni team was no slouch with Marin and Pena, they looked in top form! Offense was much better although UNT missed on 4 breakaway 1 v 1 chances, but still more work to do on the defensive end.

She decided not to play. Believe she had a bad ankle and for some reason wanted to not play and consider surgery. But, she quit to do it. Very strange....

For all of you die hard UNT soccer fans, the roster and media guide photos and bio's are finally posted if you have not already seen these. Get to know the new recruits before you come out to the OU game tonight!! See everyone there!

Along those lines, the Denton Chronicle is owned by the DMN and maybe part of the sports coverage and ad-sale negotiation with the Chronicle needs to include more than just the one mini-paragraph update in the DMN, including promo advertising for the same dollar spent with the Chronicle extended to the DMN. If we are helping to sell their Chronicle papers, and they are not already giving away the advertising, I think we should expect more from the parent company in the DFW markets.

Many of you may not know that RV sells a mean Coke and Popcorn out of the Soccer concession stand on a regular basis too..... AD in a cramped concession stand.... that is a rare sighting at most D-I universities. Leadership by example, do what it takes. Gonna be back in the c'stand this year RV?

Great, I'm excited for the startup too. Understand they look really good during 2-a-days!! The OU game is an exciting opponent for benchmarking our progress and readiness. We looked real good against this team in the Spring tournament in McKinney, and that was before we added the freshman talent into the mix. I hope we can get all of those who have read the posts this spring and summer to come out for the christening of the new field and catch the excitement this team should generate this year, and make this a tougher road venue than UNT has already been by adding a larger home crowd "12th man!" Don't forget the alum game on Sat too, all you alums!!! -
Actually saw him at a few..... Marcus and Creekview matchups last few years, he was there.

That's what I had heard. Wasn't there also a Solar / UNT coach connection there somewhere? Also, regarding the 06 class... I agree with your assessment that these girls will exceed the recruiting rank that UNT was given. I've got to believe that the new additions will exceed all expectations. And watch out for 07's... Great things ahead for this team. ←
