Todd Dodge's QB sets state passing record
Baby Arm! replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
My old stomping grounds! Its different today then back in the 80s and 90s when the Farmers would fill that place to the brim on Friday nights and steamroll opponents with Wishbone football. -
I say we already have matched them. TWICE. Look at the size of crowds we got both times Baylor played us at Fouts. But if UNT had just had accomplished what ULM has done the past two weeks, we would fill Apogee whomever the opponent

Dodge must have Mendoza as his D-Cooridantor again. -
http://www.woai.com/content/sports/highschool/story/RAW-FEED-Record-setting-Boerne-Champion-vs-Marble/3JbW7KWCE0yxQTlwjetacw.cspx I know Dodge was a utter failure as a college head coach but on a personal level I always liked the guy. Glad to see he is having some success at the high school level again.

Wish I could make it from New Braunfels myself. What part of NB do you live in?

Well Stated. I can see our fan base gettin much more excited by Texas State than Ball St (or any other MAC team)

Seriously???? All Minor leagues. Scorpions play in a high school stadium and don't fill it up vs. Texas Motor Speedway having crowds of 200k. Speaking of soccer, I forgot to mention FC Dallas, another pro sport that UNT has to compete with. Talons play in the Alamodome and in the spring- not much direct competition with the Roadrunners but Dallas has arena football too. Rampage- Been to the games, they don't draw that well, nowhere near what the NHL Stars draw in Dallas Missions?- I wasn't counting minor league baseball but OK, UNT has to compete with 3 minor league teams in Frisco, Grand Prarie and Ft Worth Ok, Dallas doesnt have an WNBA team (thank god)- My company keeps trying to give away tickets for our corporate suite to the Silver Stars games, I never take them up on it. You'd have to pay me to go to a WNBA game. College football wise- You guys have the advantage of being the only game in town while we have to compete for the casual fans with SMU and TCU. Your AD staff has done a GREAT job partnering with the local business community. Outside of the KFC thing, you cant see a car dealership commercial without a UTSA logo attached to it. That's something you never see in DFW.

It's been empirically proven that our largest crowds come agaist other Texas teams. Our attendance isn't at a point when we can discard a game that would be a good draw because we don't want them to get a leg up. Add one more Texas team to our schedule can only help our attendance. Students and alumni like games against schools their friends went to. Because I live here and we get absolutely ZERO attention in this part of the state. No print media, No TV, No radio, Nada. We don't exist in Central Texas. I hear more about whomever is playing Texas State and UTSA every week then I ever hear of North Texas. Your CUSA = more coverage argument is fautly. I never see coverage of SMU or Houston either. They are currently in CUSA and they are out of sight, out of mind.

I think think the Alamodome IS a long term solution for the Roadrunners. Im not a fan of playing in off campus stadiums but for UTSA it works. Being downtown and next to the Riverwalk gives them a central location for the entire city, They are the only game in town so it works for them. It will be decades before they would be in a position to build a stadium that offers what the Alamodome does ...and yes, they sell beer.

I wish our Athletic Dept would do a KFC-like promotion to fill up our wing section! I think the Texas State game will allow you to keep your average over 30k this year. After that who knows? You wont have the Bobcats on the schedule next year. The newness may be wearing off as your opening day crowd was almost 50% less than the previous year, but that could be expected. I think you're gonna see your average crowds in the 20-30k range here on out. Comparing UNT vs UTSA attendance really isn't apples to apples. At UNT we have to compete for the sports dollar of the casual fan with the following: NFL NASCAR 2 other FBS programs MLB NBA MLB at UTSA you only have to compete against the Spurs

I'm on the record advocating a home & home series with Texas State. Schedule it opposite the UTSA game so we play one at home, the other on the road each year. Would give us an annual recruiting and media presence in central Texas of which we currently have none. It's a great roadtrip for fans. The Austin/San Marcos/New Braunfels/San Antonio corridor offers LOTS to do for fans. From a personal standpoint, Being in NB it would give me at least one easy road game to attend.
-
First and foremost, Thank you for your service to our country. Second, Welcome to the board. Third, Congrats on the 3-0 start, Fourth, get ready for some beatdowns. It's going to be much different playing a full slate of FBS teams then a bunch of Div II, Div III, NAIA, and FCS teams.

Here's the problem with our scheduling
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
Getting tread back on track... My point for scheduling Tx State in a home/home is to give us a game in Central Texas every year. In years we play UTSA at Apogee, we schedule TxSt as a road game, Flip it the next year. It would give us a recruiting presence each year in a part of the state we haven't played in for years and garner some media attention in San Antonio and Austin where North Texas is NEVER mentioned. Currently down here it's like we don't exist, -

Here's the problem with our scheduling

Need to start scheduling a home/home series with now FBS team Texas State. 1) Its a winable game 2) Local recognition in opponent 3) Can schedule the road games in years we play UTSA at home so we would have a game and recruiting presence in central Texas every year 4) Tx State has enough local fans and/or within reasonable distance to provide traveling fans 5) Nice and easy roadtrip for UNT fans 6) We can establish it as a rivalry game with a traveling trophy* (We need to do this with UTSA, RICE, and UTEP as well) *Call it the Necessary Roughness trophy- a golden armadillo presented to the winners by Sinbad- It's not like he's busy or anything lately -

May be interesting to watch the Pirate's coaching debut for Wash St. -
That looks like something I'd really like to be a part of. But the meeting times make it hard to arrange that kind of time away from work on a Monday.

Attendance ideas for UNT's Tuesday night ULL game
Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We need to remove any exucuse an already lazy college student uses not to attend this game. Too far to walk?- Shuttle bus services making laps around the campus to pick up students. Pick up at the Union and dorms, drop off in the old Raddison parking lot on The Hill. Too cumbersom to get a ticket? As mentioned before, go back to the ID swipe at the game. Let's get TWU on board too. Show you TWU student ID and get in free. Partner with youth football leagues in Denton, Lake Dallas, Lewisville. Every kid gets 4 free tickets to the wingzone. We need to get coaches and athletic department staff at every Kwanias, Rotary Club, Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, Mason, Elks, IOOF, and Chambers of Commerce meeting in Denton County in the weeks preceeding the game. Push how this is Denton County's appearance on national TV. It's a 3 hour commercial for Denton County and sell tickets to the members.- 38 replies
