18 starters returning from a team that sucked to begin with. No problem

With the exception of the Baylor game 2 years ago the student sections are never FULL. Student seating goes from section L to the endzone seats.......Those seats are never filled.

UNT has a GREAT academic coordinator and you better believe she keeps real close tabs on her kids and thats in all sports too. Just look at how UNT did with NCAA compliance this spring. Didn't UNT outclass all the other Texas D-1 schools? I believe we did! RV even mentioned this during the logo unveiling ceremony. BTW, it wasn't May the DD named Byerly the starter, it was in February. Remember how early we hold spring practice? There was a lot of spring semester left when Byerly "won" the job. Too bad he couldn't keep his priorities in order. He certainly had the resources available to him to help him succeed.

I've heard form RV that the plan is to level and sod the field, add a stone and iron fence like what surrounds the new football practice fields. They also plan to build a new pressbox and elevator (elevator is required to comply with the ADA act, any new construction to public facilities has to be ADA compliant).

It's official now. The off season has reached it's lowest point when a typo on a website constitutes message board fodder..... GAWD, can the season get here already?????!!!!!!!

Scattershooting while coming across this from the department of putting the cart before the horse..... Let me just say let's get the new stadium built before we do anything like this, BUT, Check out this company based in Italy, TX. Site says they can build this cheaper than a small outdoor stadium, Enlarge the images on the site. This could be pretty cool to provide an indoor practice facility for football, but also with seating for soccer and indoor track and field. Might be worth considering... Affordable Indoor Stadia

CFN has Tulsa winning 4 games this year
Baby Arm! replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
Until we start winning more OOC games, the media types will pick us to lose those games, on the other side of the coin, Until someone else wins the Sunbelt the media will continue to pick UNT to win the conference title. So no.....Im not surprised -
We're talking August in Texas here........ Do you really think rain won't be a significant threat.

Back in the days of unlimited scholarships it was a common practice to give a kid a 'ship just to keep him away from your competition. Darrell Royal was famous for this. It was a common site to see 150 players on the UT sidelines during home games. All of them under scholarship. Since the NCAA has limited scholarships to 85 you don't see this anymore. Schools can't afford to "waste" a scholarship

Just heard Dave Campbell, Editor in chief of Texas Football on the Ticket, Highlight of the interview came at the end. Campbell made a point to mention the Cobbs/Thomas duo at North Texas. Said it was incredible to have two backs lead the nation in rushing and then come back for more with

If YOU think Meager is going to be an impact player Matt, ... that tells me a lot as to who will be under center come fall. -
Snowflakes????- I think I'm going to be sick

Well you are talking about a school that once changed the name of it's mascot from Srappy because it sounded to "war like" -
IDAHO "VANDALS" NAME UNDER SCRUTINY It may be premature for WAC teams to print "Vandals" on schedules for games with their new member school. Likewise pictures of Pistol Pete of NewMexico State with his sixguns. The NCAA is investigating "symbols that offend" and "representation sensitivity". All part of the effort of the NCAA committee working to terminate Native American team names. It was seen as a great success to get Syracuse to drop "Orangeman" with its quasi-religious overtones. One insider stated that the investigators see a responsibility "to form the social outlook of young students". "These labels have caused animosity and injury for decades, regardless of naive or innocent intentions". Some committee members are veterans in forging Title IX victories over "reactionary" male thinking. Specific to the University of Idaho, one of the more forthcoming professors stated, during a break, her concern with any team names that are divisive or conjure up hurtful images. The original Vandals of the 3rd to 5th century were a Germanic tribe, who made war in Spain, France and sacked Rome. "Hardly a positive, as they had no vision of a humanistic world government back then." Plus, these days the word "vandal" is a perjorative and is thoughtlessly used to label acting-out, troubled youths." Investigators were most concerned because the real Vandals were all Caucasian and ignorant of diversity concerns. The two invited experts joining the academic professionals where from Fund for MotherEarth (FFME) and the Animals Have Rights Assn. These advocates were pleased to offer a collection of Earth-affirming, non-threatening alternative names for consideration in University senates. There will be no mandates to Universities but they will receive committee recommendations. One professor offered "Snowflakes" as a type of natural, gender neutral symbol they could affirm.

Texas is Texas. It's atmosphere is a combination of Old South, Old West, Spanish/Mexican and Southwestern influences that combine to make it uniquely Texan

How many of us would love to see UNT have fans like this??? Newsflash...You dont have to be a graduate of a college to be a fan of their sports teams!!!. They used to say Notre Dame led the nation in "Subway Alumni"-- fans that had no connection to the school but were fans of the team. It's these subway alumni that make the difference in filling a 70,000 seat stadium every saturday versus struggling to put 30,000 BIS. North Texas needs to market itself and get "subway alums" Until we start pulling fans from outside of the alumni/student pool we are always going to stuggle with attendence.

Does Anybody Really Know What Shade of Green We're
Baby Arm! replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Does anybody care?...... Me, not really. Right now I'm more concerned about our offensive line, the possiblity of an ineligible QB, and an overall lack of depth. If those concerns could be resolved first, the team could show up in any shade of green as far as Im concerned. -
Mustangs vs Mean Green in New Orleans Bowl ?
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
SouthernMustang, In the past 4 years I've paid as low as $39/night for the Wyndham Canal Place and up to $95 for the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon. Since it's the slow season and you book it right, you shouldn't have to pay more than $100 anywhere in the French Quarter. -
It's interesting that most of the comments that discount fraternity loyalty are coming from those who were never in a fraternity to begin with???? There's old saying about from the outside you can't understand it, from the inside you can't explain it I'm a Skull, I'll always be a Skull. End of story
-
Without question. My fraternity.

I think most alumni groups have their own logo. For example, Texas Exes has their own logo and doesn't use the longhorn
-
Not sure about AD's but on I always hear the stat that on the average from age 20-65 Americans will change jobs 8 times... that an avg. 5.6 years per job.

Can't we just let this topic die???? Either for alumni difficulty getting to weekday games, student apathy, lack or promotion, inconsistent play....For WHATEVER reason, basketball just isnt as popular as football and doesnt get the support it deserves. I agree with Emmitt ...how long to the spring game???
