  1. Looks like the game will be played, just not sure where... Katrina aftermath: Cities offer to host bowl gamesESPN.com news services MasterCard Alamo Bowl president and CEO Derrick Fox told The Dallas Morning News he's invited Sugar Bowl officials to move their game to San Antonio. BCS coordinator Kevin Weiberg spoke to Nokia Sugar Bowl president Mark Romig, but no decision had been made about whether the game would be played in the Superdome, BCS spokesman Bob Burda said. New Orleans Bowl The New Orleans Bowl, which pits the Sun Belt and Conference USA champions on Dec. 20, is another postseason game whose status is unknown. "At this point, it's just too early to speculate," Burda told the paper. "I'm 100 percent sure that the game will be played this year, but I'm zero percent sure where it will be," Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters said. "I don't think it will be in the Superdome. But Dec. 20 is a long way away. Memphis and Lafayette have expressed interest in it. There are other places that have expressed interest and we will try to make sure the game occurs,'' The Sun Belt Conference office had to move to Lafayette from its headquarters in New Orleans.
  2. If Tulane doesn't play football this year I don't think they will ever bring the sport back. Remember it was just a year or so ago that they were giving SERIOUS consideration to ending football because of the exspense. It took a lot of rallying the alumni and some serious commitments $$$ to keep the sport alive at Tulane. Faced with all of the other problems the school is now facing, I believe they may rethink spending the money on a football program.
  3. This was inclued in Dr. Phol's North Texas Insider... "We want to welcome you back in true North Texas style for Homecoming. But as I write this, we’re rescheduling some of our football dates so we can accommodate the LSU team as they work to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. You’ll read more about what we’re doing to help below. I encourage you to check www.meangreensports.com for updates to the season’s schedule and Homecoming date." Handwriting on the wall seems to point to playing LSU on 10/29, Moving Homecoming to the Laffeyette game on 11/5 and then moving the ULM game to 12/3
  4. I would think they would have to have insurance to cover the loss of revenue for "acts of god". LSU stands to lose a lot more revenue by losing a home football game. I don't think this game will be rescheduled for this year, It may become our 12th game next season though.
  5. Red Cross Disaster Relief If you would like to help in the relief and recovery for victims of Hurricane Katrina, you can make donations online to the American Red Cross Disater Relief Fund.
  6. On MSNBC they reported that FEMA and the Red Cross announced last night that if you want to help. DO NOT donate can goods, or any other products. They dont have the ability to collect, store and distribute it. If you want to help they would rather you write a check
  7. I think it should be cancelled now. Even if Baton Rouge damage isnt that bad The logistics of an event with an attendance of 80,000 takes a lot of man-hours. Getting 80K fans in and out of what is a declared disaster area, while about half the population of New Orleans that will be coming back on I-10 to try and get to their homes is going to be a logistical nightmare. Also all the man hours for security, crowd control, emergerncy services that have stand by in case something might happen, .... it's just takes too much effort when ALL efforts should be directed at relief and recovery. and on the good taste issue,...what about burning the stadium lights and jumbotron for a night game when half the state is without power? Yeah I know, not burning the lights won't get the power on any quicker or do anything I just don't like the message it sends or the image it presents. And I've always heard the "party" LSU games were for their fans....Is it in good taste to have a party so soon after bodies are floating in the streets of New Orleans? It's just a football game... there are WAY more important things the people of Louisiana have to deal with.
  8. Longview is about 100 miles east of Dallas along I-20. In realation to this area... Lonview is about 225 miles northeast of Conroe
  9. French Quarter Battered but Unbowed By ALLEN G. BREED, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 50 minutes ago NEW ORLEANS - Gail Henke could think of no better way to celebrate the French Quarter's survival of Hurricane Katrina than to belly up to a bar on Bourbon Street with a vodka and cranberry juice. Call it a libation to the storm gods. "You know what? There's a reason why we're called the Saints," the 53-year-old tour booker said Monday as she communed with 20 or so other survivors. "Because no matter what religion you are, whether you're a Catholic, whether you're voodoo, whether you're Baptist or so on, so on, and so on — we all pray. We all pray. "I'm not a religious fanatic. But God has saved us." Neighborhoods outside the Vieux Carre were inundated with up to 15 feet of water. But the old city, built on the highest ground around, weathered the glancing blow from the Category 4 storm in grand style. Among the damage: Some chimneys collapsed into streets, and the famed rues were littered with roof slates and Spanish tile. And over on Burgundy Street, a two-story brick outbuilding that once had been slave quarters collapsed. Arnold Steinbrenner was riding out the storm in his second-floor apartment next door when bricks began falling into his building. He said a woman who was in the collapsed structure emerged unscathed. "They were in the process of renovating it," he said. "It was coming along. It just didn't get there fast enough." In the courtyard behind the 278-year-old Cathedral St. Louis, two massive oaks toppled, their roots pulling up a 30-foot section of iron fence. Carrie Hanselman marveled at how the branches straddled a marble statue of Jesus Christ but, miraculously, knocked off only the thumb and forefinger on its outstretched left hand. "He was right in the middle of it," the 47-year-old pastry chef said. "Jesus and his mother were watching out for us. I had that candle burning all night." Terry Ebbert, chief of homeland security for New Orleans, said the French Quarter appeared to survive Katrina better than any of the city's neighorhoods. After the storm passed, police circled the quarter with bullhorns shouting: "The French Quarter is closed. This is state of emergency. Please, please get off the streets or you will be detained." But that couldn't dampen the indomitable spirit of one of the nation's most famous — and infamous — neighborhoods. Tamara Stevens, 45, and her boyfriend Rick Leiby, 65, found their way to Johnny White's Sports Bar before the winds even stopped blowing. After spending a harrowing night in their swaying apartment, they needed to be out among people. "This place will still be here," Leiby, a tour guide, said as he sipped a screwdriver from a plastic cup. "And it ain't gonna quit."
  10. This one is for you, John Denver... Katrina Belts New Orleans: Journalists Hardest Hit by Scott Ott (2005-08-29) -- As one of history's most powerful hurricanes made landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi this morning, the thoughts and prayers of a nation were directed toward the safety of hundreds of TV reporters trapped in three-star hotels in the path of deadly Katrina. While federal agencies warned that the Category 4 storm, packing 140 m.p.h. winds, could leave one million people homeless and cause billions of dollars in property damage, those hardest hit so far have been TV news reporters stranded without room service or air conditioning for hours on end as they shout over the wind to keep citizens up to date on the latest flying debris. Access to cosmetics and hair-stabilizers has been severely restricted in Katrina's path, and the major news networks have appealed to the American public to contribute truckloads of these essential commodities for the media victims of this natural disaster. "It's hard to a see a silver lining behind these grey clouds," said one CNN executive. "But if injury and loss of life are the price of sensational ratings, then the sacrifice of these TV reporters will not have been in vain."
  11. Lewisville doesn't open up till next week. Usually there was one or two Farmer alumni on the Mean Green, but not now and I don't think there are any prospects. Of course that's probably indictative of a drop in talent level that's caused our extended absence from the playoffs. Hopefully the new head coach (Jamario's old coach) and a new offense will end the 3 year playoff drought.
  12. Geeze, lighten up will ya. It's just a comment made in jest. I'll often use it when in a debate with someone from TN when they say someting to the effect that 'It took a bunch of Tennessean's to make Texas free' I'll respond that 'We appreciate that, It's obvious they had to come to Texas before finding something worth dying for'
  13. True, they left Tennessee to come Texas before they found something worth dying for.
  14. News this morning has Hurricane Katrina at Category 5 and tracking towards New Orleans. Expected landfall is sometime Monday morning. Question is if there is extensive damage and flooding in SE Louisiana, what are the chances our game on Saturday would be postponed or even cancelled?? Any word from LSU on what their contingency plans are?
  15. Yeah just quote the post and then delete the portion of the text within the
  16. New BCS poll loses another voter 04:47 PM CDT on Thursday, August 25, 2005 By BRIAN DAVIS / The Dallas Morning News College football's Harris Interactive poll lost another potential voter Thursday when television broadcaster Sam Smith said he would not participate at the request of ESPN. Network spokesman Josh Krulewitz said ESPN is not allowing any of its commentators to participate in the new college football poll that will count one-third of the Bowl Championship Series formula. Smith is a play-by-play announcer on Sun Belt Conference games on ESPN's regional network. "We've asked him to withdraw his name, and he will comply," Krulewitz said. The network nixed three other Harris voters on Wednesday because of their affiliation with ESPN. Former coaches Lou Holtz and Gerry DiNardo and former Pittsburgh quarterback John Congemi all work with the network in some fashion, Krulewitz said. Also on Wednesday, Jason Rash, called BCS officials and asked to withdraw. As it turned out, Rash did not meet the requirements that a voter be a former player, coach, administrator or a member of the media. Rash's college football connection is that he's the son-in-law of Troy coach Larry Blakeney. Harris Interactive officials said the poll will still have 114 voters. Nancy Wong, a Harris spokeswoman, said the company spent the day Thursday devising a plan to fill four vacancies, which has now grown to five.
  17. If you want bigger name opponents to come to Fouts than we have to demonstrate we can fill the stadium especially for OOC games. The Baylor game two years ago went a long way toward proving we can fill Fouts. However it is VITAL that we have a strong showing for the Tulsa game this year and for bothe the SMU and LA Tech games next season Hopefully the team will be 1-1 going into the Tulsa game. Since Tulsa is the first home game, its' Family Weekend which is always good for a crowd, and I expect Tulsa to bring a few fans.....I'd be disappointed in any crowd under 20,000. Im going to be optimistic and predict 25k.
  18. Just made my reservations at the Holday Inn-Downtown
  19. Mean Green Lineman Named To Second Award Watch List Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 08/22/2005 DENTON (8/22/05) - Mean Green offensive lineman Dylan Lineberry was named to the 2005 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List. The 2004 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Lineberry is considered one of the most physical blockers in the conference. The senior started every game last season and graded out as the team's second best offensive lineman behind two-time all-conference center Andy Brewster. The Rotary Lombardi Award honors the top lineman in college football. Named after Vince Lombardi, the legendary Green Bay Packers coach, the award will be presented on December 7 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Downtown Houston. The Lombardi is the second watch list Lineberry has been named to this preseason. The guard was also selected to the Outland Trophy Watch List, also given annually to the best lineman in the country. Lineberry is not the first Mean Green player to be named to an award watch list. Running back Jamario Thomas was selected to the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award Watch Lists. Running back Patrick Cobbs was also named to the Maxwell Watch List and all-conference kicker Nick Bazaldua was honored with the Lou Groza Award watch list. The Mean Green football team opens the season at Louisiana State on Sept. 3.

  21. I think the point he's trying to make is that football passion runs as deep if not deeper (Down to the HS level) in Texas as is does in SEC country. So passionate fans is not an excuse. Crip*TeamKatt- First thing. I want to thank you for your service to our country. I honor your service. You and your comrade-in-arms are owed a debt by the rest of us that can never be repaid. Ok, now moving on. There are drunk assholes at every venue. Every school has to put up with them, but there are several people on this board that have had less than possitive experiences at LSU, Im sure you have possitive experiences at Tiger games. You and your group seem to be a hospitable bunch. Nobody here is saying anything different, But is only takes a few assholes to ruin a visiting fans experience. These few bad apples are causing a great perception problem for LSU. One of my fraternity brothers grew up in New Orleans and going to LSU games. Even he refuses to go the game, That says a lot. And taunting and tiger bait calls are one thing, but throwing ice and spitting on someone crosses the line to become assualt. It's sad that visiting fans can't travel to experience a great college football experience without worrying about being assulted, insulted, and having their vehicles vandalized. I would think the University would be putting some serious effort into correcting this problem.
  22. Highly underated post. I actually did a spit take when I read it. Back and to the Left.... Classic
  23. The Delphi Middle Tennessee link is dead, they went to Rivals.com a few weeks ago http://middletennessee.rivals.com/
  24. Actually UNT used this tactic a few years back the first time Baylor played at Fouts. It was only for one game instead of season tickets. I remember George Dunham talking about it on The Ticket, each person was tasked with selling something like 100 tickets each... Dunham made one call to Mark Cuban who bought all 100.
  25. In other words, a 50yd line seat at Fouts is equal to an end zone seat anywhere else
