  1. I've often wondered why the Exes don't give every graduate a one year free membership as a graduation gift. Don't give them a chance NOT to sign up. Make it automatic with every graduation application that's turned in. Sure a lot may not renew after the year is up, but I would think it would be much easier (and cheaper) to get renewals from a grad a year out of school when they have a job, rather that trying to ask for dues from a graduating senior that doesnt have a job yet. And it also easier to seek renewals rather than recruit new members from a pool of alumni that never bothered to join in the first place. We're missing an opportunity to turn these people into the kind of alumni we need. "Congratulations on you graduation, BTW here's your membership in the alumni association, and since you don't get into games for free anymore, here's your application for season tickets for next football season"
  2. WWilson is the FIRST high school to produce two Heisman winners, but not the only one. I don't the the name of the school but Marcus Allen and Ricky Williams are alumni of the same high school in San Diego. Those are the only 2 high schools to produce multiple Heisman winners.
  3. He is. But he started out at Texas playing for DKR. He transferred to North Texas and finished his playing and got his degree.
  4. I graduated in 86 and we never played Denton in the 4 years I played. I do remember that prior to 82 the Denton Record Chronicle sponsered the "Denton County Championship" between Lewisville and Denton every year with a traveling trophy and all. Denton and Lewisville were the only 5A schools in the county back then. My how things have changed.
  5. That was Coach Wilson that yelled that. Coach Gage was still an assistant. He was the backs/recievers coach at the time
  6. No offense, but back in the day when we were lollygagging in practice or taking it easy in off season workouts, our old football coach at Lewisville would yell at us to step it up and work harder by yelling... "You gotta work hard to be a winner!. Heck, ANYBODY can be RL Turner!"
  7. Lewisville High School Fightin' Farmers Class of 1986 GO BIG JOHN!
  8. Guess what may be the model for Rice's new athletic center? The subject of Rice's stadium improvements came up when I was talking to RV during the GMG bowl. Rick shared that Rice officials recently came to Denton to tour the Athletic Center and new facilities because they were planning on building something similar. Never thought I'd see the day when other D-1 programs would be coming to UNT to check out our facilities.......We've got a long way to go but that shows how far we've already come.
  9. Lee Jackson has publicly stated that he is not a sports fan. Some on this board equate that to being anti-athletics. Also there is logo-gate'05, (there's nothing wrong with the new logo, I think most have come to like it) however the way the logo release and design process were handled was a PR disaster. Bear in mind I don't think this alone means he's anti athletics but some on this board have a mentality if he's not with us, he MUST be against us. Its similar to how one poster chooses to villify the most pro-athletics BOR chairman we've had in years. A BOR chairman that has said he wouldnt allow the hiring of a new president that wasn't pro-athletics, But becuase Bobby Ray didn't fire Dickey after a 2-9 season this one poster choses to dictate conspiracy theories about Bobby Ray and the Kansas State mafia, family vacations together, etc. Most of this stuff is just internet message board fodder and shouldn't be taken seriously.
  10. Well thats true with anything in UNT athletics..... Let me amend that...Let's just say we're PLANNING on baseball within 2 years.
  11. Actually it is correct. I've heard from a most reliable source that we'd have baseball within 2 years.
  12. "The Houston Bowl has been plagued by poor attendance throughout its history, averaging 41,276 for the six games. Last year's game between Iowa State and TCU drew 37,286 and the Colorado-UTEP game in 2004 drew only 27,235, the smallest in its history. The Houston Bowl has twice drawn crowds in excess of 50,000 — in 2001 for a game featuring Texas A&M and TCU and for the 2003 game with Texas Tech and Navy." Then New Orleans Bowl can only dream of attendance like this. And with no sponser anymore since Wyndham is out.....this may be the future of the New Orleans Bowl too. Only thing keeping the New Orleans Bowl going is they've been paying the miniumum 750,000 payout. And the NCAA will have sympathy post Katrina and grant an exception in the certification process. But if attendance and sponsorship opportunities don't improve this year....Expect to be reading about the death of the New Orleans Bowl sooner rather than later.
  13. Go to The Old Coach Network. You'll get all the advice you ever need there, and from someone that actually know what they are talking about. The Old Coach Select the "Texas Hight School Football" fourm
  14. Ive said it before, I'll say it again. The WAC is not a move up. This ain't your daddy's WAC, Look at the membership....Today's WAC is nothing more than the Big West II Been there, done that! No Thanks.
  15. By that logic the only players ever taken with the #1 picks are quarterbacks and centers
  16. This is TERRIBLE newswriting. One the headline is just wrong, Blame that on the editor or whoever did the layout, not the reporter. We don't open the season against SMU, we open the HOME season against SMU The article isn't much better, There is not one quote from RV, Dickey, an asst. coach, player...no body connected with the football team. This reporter couldn't find ANYONE connected with the program to get their comments on the schedule???? And if this is supposed to be a news story, whats up with the reporter opinins injected into the story? The editor should have cut the final line altogether...
  17. Although the quality isnt very good here is some sounds to go along with the pictures. Enjoy. GMG Bowl III
