I said it all summer, and at the begining of the season. Coming off of last years 2-9 debacle, I would consider this season a success if 1) beat SMU 2) Win the Belt I'm not saying I accept the losses so far, Im never happy losing. But Im a realist and after looking at our team I didn't think we'd win in Austin, Tulsa, or Akron. These goals are attainable

I seriously am doubting we'll see the new stadium by the 2009 season. We haven't even broken ground, the new Cowboy stadium in Arlington has been under construction for several months already and it's scheduled for a 2009 opening. And Euless, the idea of renovating Fouts wont work. The changes you mentioned wouldn't do anything about the restrooms, concession areas, small concourses, and no club level or luxery suites which are a cash cow for the athletic dept. Build New!! ( Besides we've already built the locker room, training facilities, etc )

Rick, the Limber looks great. Any further info from RV on whether they are going to display it and boomer in the AC lobby?

Ok, let me be dumb bonfire guy for a moment. I keep reading "largest hand built bonfire in Texas", but since A&M gave up on bonfires would ours now be considered largest bonfire period? -
I got news for you buddy, you are already being charged for tickets to all sporting events. It's in the student service fees you pay. The Athletic Dept gets a share of that money to cover the cost of student admissions-- that's why you are getting in "free" You are already paying to attend sporting events whether you go or not. So you have a great idea....but UNT is already doing it and has for years.

If a man is talking in the forest, and there are no women around to hear him. Is he still wrong?
-
Ideal scenario...Wilson as a 3 year starter. Tune redshirts this year, than after Woody graduates he takes over for 2 years.

Is there a way we can make the Ignore option permanent?

Sounds like a slow start but way to go MUTS! Good attendance too. Congrats!

I still haven't determined if Im going to make it to this game but, I may have to make a 'game time decision' on whether to go or not. That being said, When are you planning on leaving for Tulsa? Is anybody gathering at some location to caravan up there?

I stopped reading PMG posts when I learned he doesn't even attend games. I refuse to put any stock in the opinion of the uninformed.

Looks like the Phony fans want to emulate the Mean Green March.. Post from Ponyfans.com... "As i arrived early last week at the unt game was walking to the stadium and here comes police cars escorting buses. They stop buy there tailgate area. people lined up everywhere, here comes the band the cheerleaders through the hundreds that formed leading to the stadium and behind them is the team. These kinds of things go on at all the places we play.As i watched this i thought to myself this is unt doing this not some big university. As hard as these young men work its never happened at smu. this saturday at 4:35 [approx] as usual the team and coaches will walk from the chapel to the stadium, and as normal there will be the same 25 people cheering for them.Just a thought that mabey once things could be different, mabey some students and or fans might actually show up.Save all the remarks about win and they will. I still believe in this team and still believe they will turn it around this year.and can promise you they wont quit." SMU board thread

What I think will happen or what I'd be happy with? I'd be happy with a split of the next two road games. These are both going to be tough opponents. I'd be really happy with a split.

You also have to consider how many from the alumni side are on the deck. Nobody in the deck are there with student id's

Wilson makes strong case to be starter By Bill Spinks Herald Democrat DENTON — Woody Wilson made a strong case Saturday night for taking over as North Texas’ starting quarterback. Before Wilson entered the game early in the second quarter, the Mean Green had struggled to sustain offensive possessions. But after the junior transfer was through directing UNT’s offense, the Mean Green had secured a landmark 24-6 victory over Southern Methodist, thrilling a mostly green-clad crowd of 25,231, the third-largest crowd in Fouts Field history. Wilson rushed 10 times for 74 yards and a touchdown and threw for 103 more on 8-of-10 passing, sparking a dormant Mean Green offense in the second half. “We needed to attack the perimeter to open up the inside, and that’s what Woody can do for us,” UNT head coach Darrell Dickey said. “When he’s in the game, you definitely have to worry about being attacked on the perimeter. His bringing that to the table will allow him to compete for more playing time.” Senior Johnny Quinn caught nine passes for 132 yards, extending his career-long reception streak to 38 games. And junior Jamario Thomas finished with 90 yards rushing and scored his first touchdown since the 2004 season, when he led the nation in rushing, with two minutes left to wrap up the scoring. Thomas was hampered most of last season with a hamstring injury and did not score a touchdown in 2005. “Tonight might be one of the nights I’m most proud of Jamario,” Dickey said. “It was easy (for him) two years ago when he was running wild. Tonight he was getting stuffed and thrown for losses, but never once did he get down on himself and the offensive line. He had that look in his eye that he was going to run hard the whole game.” UNT outgained SMU in total yardage and dominated time of possession by a 39-to-21-minute margin. Also helping was a strong defensive effort in which the Mean Green limited SMU to 111 rushing yards and took advantage of numerous major penalties against the Ponies. But it was the special teams phase of the game that gave UNT the spark it needed from the outset. Redshirt freshman Evan Robertson took less than a minute and a half to make an impact in his first home game when he blocked a Southern Methodist punt and recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a Mean Green touchdown. After the Mean Green held the Mustangs on the game’s first series, the Mustangs lined up to punt on their own 25-yard line. Robertson broke through the Ponies’ containment and blocked Thomas Morstead’s kick, and the ball rolled into the end zone. Robertson tracked it down, and Denis Hopovac’s extra-point kick gave UNT (1-1) a 7-0 lead. “The whole week the coaches were saying I could block (a punt),” Robertson said. “I went outside and tried to get around the corner so I could get a chance at blocking it. Nobody touched me. I think it was a big play. The defense came back out and wanted to get a stop, and everybody wanted to play hard after (the block).” After Robertson’s opening score, the Mean Green couldn’t get much traction offensively despite solid play from starting quarterback Matt Phillips, who was 4-of-6 passing for 42 yards. The moment Wilson entered the game, however, things changed. Wilson completed a pair of third-down passes to Quinn, then found true freshman Bryant Seidle open inside the 10. But Seidle was separated from the football on a hard hit, and SMU’s Cory Muse recovered to keep the Mustangs within a touchdown at the half. The Mustangs stopped UNT’s opening drive of the second half and drove 63 yards in 11 plays for a TD pass from freshman Justin Willis, a Denton native, to Columbus Givens to make it 7-6. The PAT by Morstead, though, was no good, keeping the Mean Green in the lead. Then Wilson went to work. He scrambled 13 yards for a first down, then rolled out left, tucked the ball under, got outside and raced 33 yards to the left pylon with 4:16 remaining in the third quarter, giving UNT an 8-point cushion. “It was a pass play and the protection broke down,” Wilson said. “It was just a little crease. I guess I was running scared.” Hopovac’s 22-yard field goal and Thomas’ 5-yard run concluded the scoring, while the Mean Green defense did the rest. “We felt we got embarrassed last week (at Texas),” said linebacker Maurice Holman, who celebrated his 22nd birthday Saturday by leading the team with 11 total tackles. “We wanted to make a statement at home. Everybody came out with fire in their eyes. We thought it would be a tight ballgame, but we had something to prove.”

Im thinking about it. I'm considering making it a DIKADO trip (DRIVE IN, KICK ASS, DRIVE OUT) Since its only about a 3 1/2 to 4 hr drive, anybody interested in coming back right after the game?

People who chose to tailgate and not go into the game used to not bother me much....untill this weekend. I had the generator and satellite dish cranked up for my tailgate party. As we watched ESPN gameday, Akron v. NC State, Missouri v Ole Miss, Penn St v Notre Dame, and OU v. Washington etc, lots of people stopped by to check on scores, or even to watch games with us. All were welcome. But what chapped my hyde was the number of people that asked us if we were planning on watching the Texas game that night. Uh Nooooooooo.... We have a slight conflict since we'd be inside the stadium when that game was going on! These jackass' had no intention of going into the stadium. One supreme jackass said with pride he'd been in school 4 years and tailgated for every home game but since they don't sell beer he has only made it inside for a game 2 or 3 times!!! Other that the lack of support for the team, what's really disheartening is the lack of ingenuity. Good Gosh, college kids have been sneaking alcohol into stadiums for years! Isn't this why the hip flask was invented? In my day we never let those restrictions stop us. Kids today are just plain lazy!

That would be awesome! They definately need to add some more stuff there and it would look great. Git er done!!!
