I find it even more exhausting that some posters go on jihad when a new name is just mentioned. There are examples of names being floated in the press and poster on both boards going ape sh*t. They conveniently overlook the part of the story where said candidate mentions he hasn't been contacted by UNT

New head coach will lead us to a new conference
Baby Arm! replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
Just stop drinking period...PLEASE. One question though.... would this Moses of a coach that is going to lead North Texas to the promised land be one of the bottom of the barrel, RV cronies that you are so against? -
I seem to remember him in a brooha allegedly accusing Aikman only yelling at the black players thus causing some racial tension on those Cowboy teams. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but that was a rumor I've heard more than once. As for his coaching at OU. It's well known that he only got the HC job when Switzer went to bat for him with the OU admin/alumni. The man CAN flat out recruit. ( Look what Stoops did with his players ) But he can't coach himself out of a paper bag.

Game day atmoshpere question
Baby Arm! replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Also they are turning the Razor Ranch property at 380/I-35 into a mixed use resturant/high end retail/office development It just the other side of Presby hospital and just a stones throw from Fouts and the new stadium. -
That's understandable since this will be be the most public, scrunized, and probably debated hire of her new administration. I don't think she wants to present the impression she's abdicating her role to RV, however I hope she takes the recommendation of those who know what they are doing.

That's how far we've fallen in recruiting. The past two years not only did DD fail to sign ANY of the state top 100 recruits, he and his staff weren't able sign enough athletes to fill the scholarships we had to offer. Im glad there was a scholarship to give Tune, but in how many D1 programs do they have couple of scholies laying around because they couldnt find enough takers in February??

Funny, basketball coaches can wear suits but with Nike swoosh or Rbk lapel pins? NFL coaches can now wear suits 2 times per year (with league approval) . Coincidently, thats the same number of games that teams can wear throwback uni's. Just my predicition but I think we're only gonna see coaches in suits on throwback weekends.
-
Dickey couldn't fill all of his scholarship slots. No surprise here at the lack of walk ons.

It's probably her son's jacket. She was out on the field during the pregame introductions of the seniors. I forget which player was her's but they were on field when their son was introduced.

Interesting thread on high school site re: Dogde coming to UNT. See what the outsider, 'casual fan' thinks of UNT football.... "In all fairness that has not been a program that has really generated a great deal of excitement. Dodge would get that excitement factor going and the $$ and facilities would follow. Hell on a off Sat. someone like me with no ties to the school might venture up there for a game with Dodge at the helm, while now the thought has never crossed my mind." Thread

If Glanville was the man, would we use the Run & Shoot?

What kind of offense would Butler run? Whats his offensive philosophy? I don't know and I dont think anyone on this board knows either?, Butler does have Texas ties having coached at SMU (pre death penalty) and Navarro JC. Butler has been coaching at a mid major Div 1 school, something that Dodge, Mathews and Carthel dont bring to the table. Once again Im not for or against this Butler guy but what I see happening is a GroupThink developing against this guy all based on assumptions after reading a couple of paragraphs and some preconceived objections to "buddy hires" All Im saying is why don't we wait and see who gets to interview, what each candidate has to offer before we all jump of the bridge and start to cancel season tickets.
-
Just curious, what do you know about Mr Butler that indicates he CAN'T work with the team and the North Texas fan base? I'm not pulling for this guy, as I said before I don't know enough about him to have an opinion at this point. But is the only reason you have against him is that he coaches at a place that RV used to work?
-
YEAH! If they've worked at S. Miss they should automatically be discounted. Afterall we don't want RV to hire anyone that he may have a familiarity with. It would look like cronyism! Cronyism never works! When Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 he hired his old college roomate Jimmy Johnson to be the head coach. At the time everyone said college coaches never make it big in the NFL... It was a total crony hire. That crony hire led them to a 1-15 record the next season. Crony Hires Never Work!
-
Yeah, well the last time we were in the market for a head coach Lou Saban threw his hat into the ring. Just cause someone's interested, doesn't make him a serious candidate.
-
It amazing the momentum this kind of thing builds up. Already we have a movement against this guy and he hasn't even interviewed. I don't know anything about him other than a few paragraphs written on message boards, Certainly don't have enough information to form an opinion one way or another. Which I think is probably the case for most everyone on this board. But for some reason that nobody articulates, they are totaly against this guy? Why? Some saying that would still cancel season tickets and stay away from games....again Why? What do you have against this guy? Im not exactly for him, but I don't have enough info to form an opinion at this point. I don't know his reputation. I've never heard him speak, don't know his coaching philosophy, or what his former players say about him. What do you all know that makes this candidate SO objectionable?

Worst Ever GMG.com Poll II: If You Were One of the
Baby Arm! replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Let me get this straight. First you write the poll questions to obviously favor the results you'd like to see. Second, you instruct users not to answer according to how they think, but according to how they believe someone else would think? Yeah....this is gonna be a real reliable poll -
Thats the problem with the spread offense. Its entertaining as all heck and it will get us from 2-3 wins to 6-8 wins. But you will lose a couple of games simply because you can't run the ball (and clock) when you need to, or inside the red zone. Especially if you are like Tech and refuse to close up the 3 ft. splits on the O-line when the situation calls for it! But for right now....sure, throw it around and put some BIS (Butts in Seats!)

Rudy is a close second but had to vote for Friday Night Lights. The FNL book was better but the movie was faithful to it, and anybody that played 4A/5A back in the 80's in a football crazed town KNOWS that book and movie were spot on! They got it right.

When watching that report one thought comes to mind.... "Damn, that a nice looking practice facility!!"
-
Doubtful, IF Dodge took the UNT job he could commute from Southlake to Denton. He wouldn't have to move his family unless he wanted to.

What a pile of BS! So DD was a great guy, a wonderful human being etc etc. I've always liked the guy one on one, but a time was needed for a change. But what has that got to do with anything? This is business and the only thing that matters is results. You would think that MacIngval would understand business is business. Nobody was asking DD to win national championships, just field a competitive team!. Dickey has had 9 seasons. He only had winning seasons in 3 of those. I wonder if Jim MacIngval would keep a furniture salesman on the payroll if he missed his quota 6 out of the past 9 years? But what if he was a great guy? What if he didnt have the resources as some other salesmen? What if he said, "I have the toughest situation in America at Gallery Furniture. I know, I work there." ... Sorry Jim, Business is bussiness. If Dickey had the same kind of record selling furniture over the past 9 years as he did coaching football..you'd have canned his ass years ago.

Leave the tradition alone, but do we have to play it SO much?
-
Personaly I'm not going to discount any candidate just because he has a USM connection. And I refuse to believe that just because someone doesnt have a history with RV that they are automatically more qualified. What if RV did the "Full Search" and still hired someone that had coached at So Miss because they met all of the qualifications, would you just call it a Good Ol Boy hire?
-
I've never been a fan of Dickeball but I though he deserved at least this year to try and right the ship. That hasn't happened and things don't look to be getting better anytime soon. Sure DD coached us to four SBC titles and bowls, but what really did him in is what he failed to do with that success, namely recruiting. Here we are having won 4 games the past 2 seasons and the absolute worst offense in all of Div 1A. I know we don't usually criticize players on here but let's look at the talent level. Face it the cupboard is pretty bare.
