  1. I guess it's unavoidable but I'm getting tired of the Gerry Faust comparison. For the record, Faust wasn't a fiasco at Notre Dame. Faust did have a winning record while coaching the Irish. Faust did take his teams to bowl games. But it is Notre Dame, 7-5 finishes don't cut it. They measure success in National Championships. And as far as recruiting goes.... The seniors on Lou Holtz's National Championship team in 1988 were all Gerry Faust recruits. Tim Brown, ND's last Heisman winner, was a Gerry Faust recruit.
  2. Im old school I'll admit. I'd like to see the team in shirts & ties, maybe even blazers. Back in my day we wore ties on game days...AND WE LIKED IT!!! (Grumpy old man reference) But I'd settle for matching polos...
  3. When you've got a Head Coach (and staff) that are unhappy where they are working, and publicly say so ...... How can you expect them to sell a recruit that this is a place they would want to be? Thank goodness we now have someone talking about the 'tremendous upside' of this place. Talking about how we CAN win, not about why it's tough for us to win!
  4. FYI- Texas Stadium parking lots open up 3 hrs before game time. And contrary to UNTFlyers suggestion, I wouldn't recommed the red lot. As a long time veteran of many high school playoff games at Tx Stadium, they usually only open up the BLUE lot.
  5. I hope Bomar's had a serious re-calibration of his attitude. Word on the grapevine is that Stoops could have just suspended him for a few gamed and make him pay back the money and that would have passed muster with the NCAA. However Stoops was so fed up with the kid being an ass, he kicked him off the team.
  6. Funds raised by the MGC go to fund athletic scholarships. The University just doesn't give away a college education. The athletic department must pay for each scholarship it grants.
  7. Todd Dodge will be on with Dunham (the great Georgio) and Miller (pathetic sack of sh#t) on 1310 AM/104.1 FM tomorrow, Thursday 12/14 at 6:50 am
  8. Just heard the SportingNews radio network (the national network the Ticket goes to at night). The commentator just did 5 minutes on North Texas hiring Dodge. Said it was a great move on UNT's part and couldn't see why it wouldn't work.
  9. I'm in as always
  10. It doesn't violate NCAA rules. UNT had a summer football camp already. It's usually one of the extras included in a coaches compensation package. Dodge coming to UNT will make the camp only bigger and more successful.
  11. He's a baptist preacher. He's more qualified in saving souls than coaching QB's.
  12. I don't think it's a matter of if RV wants Dodge to coach the game or not. The all american game falls in the no contact "Dead Period". College coaches can't contact recruits and now that Dogde is a college coach.... well you do the math.
  13. I constantly amazed they are able to fit Hansen and his ego into the same studio every night.
  14. I keep seeing them trying to pigeon hole us into 'your daddy's mean green'. They keep calling us the same names, keep using the same tired and worn excuses to put us down regardless of facts: For example Commuter school- FACT- UNT has a greater percentage of its students living on campus than UT-Austin. Nobody considers UT a commuter school. FACT-UNT has more on campus students than SMU and TCU COMPBINED! Are those two commuter schools? Facilities- They don't know, or refuse to acknowled the new athletic center, practice facilities, training room, weight room, locker rooms, players lounge, meeting and office space. Then new academic center not to mention the new dorm and dining hall adjacent to the AC. Fact is in the public's perception facilities begin and end with the football stadium. But you wont' see them give us credit for the recently announced donation/capital campaign until the new stadium is built. Attendance-- yeah it sucks but thats one of the reasons Dodge is here. We're finally going to have an exciting brand of football. Winning will cure our attendance woes (along with a new stadium)
  15. I really don't care. I equate it with the idiots who always refer to the University of Texas by TU. Ohhh you really hurt us there by calling us the wrong name... grow up.
  16. I don't think it's a matter IF he get's the redshirt. Through the grapevine I've heard Muzzy's already been approved. However he reportedly was going to wait and see how things panned out with the coaching situation before making a decision on wheather to take it.
  17. Proof of the theory that no matter how hot a girl is, somewhere there's a guy who's tired of putting up with her crap.
  18. Harbaugh, Dodge, Norvell, Carthel,..... any of the four would be fine with me. Each has their own strong points
  19. Good that means Harbaugh is still available
  20. So let me get you logic straight here.... You discount Harbaugh because he doesn't have a lot of head coaching experience.....but your first choice is a lifetime assistant coach with ZERO head coaching experience? Your second objection is D2 is a downgrade, so your second choice (Dodge) is a High School coach. If D2 is a downgrade, what is high school?
  21. You really think hirning Dodge would make national news? Maybe but hiring an 15 year NFL retired quarterback would bring more. Dodge may be known outside of the Texas but not very well. Quick question. Whats the name of the coach at Concord De LaSalle High School in CA? I dunno? and I follow high school football. DLS has been much more successfull than the recent SLC run. DLS didn't lose a game for 10 years.... 10 YEARS. But I couldn't give you the name of the coach on a bet. Harbaugh has more name recognition nationally. His hire would definately make Sportscenter, NFL network, FSSW, etc. And this high school all star game? There is no guaruntee Dodge would coach it. If hired I wouldn't be surprised to see him back out of it with his new UNT duties taking precedence. All in all, any of the 3 rumored finalists would be fine with me. Id be happy with any of the 3. But my new favorite is Harbaugh
  22. A little history.... When Dennis Parker coached Marshall to the state championship it was announced the week of the game he had been hired as the new HC at North Texas. Play by play and color guy kept mentioning the hire during the game.
  23. Hoping you can get his son to play here a year down the road is a LOUSY reason to hire a head coach!!! 1- There is NOTHING to insure that the kid will want to play at UNT. Maybe he wants to play somewhere else? What if Riley continues to burn it up through his senior year and every college in the country is beating down his door? Does UNT compete eventhough his dad coaches here? 2- It's just one player, In basketball one premier recruit can turn around a team but in football....not so much 3- what if this player get's hurt? or transfers?- There goes you reason for hiring that coach. Even if he does play for 4 years, what about after that? 4- What if things go south with the coach and you fire him after a couple of seasons or he get's hired away by another school. You then lose your stud QB when he follows his dad somewhere else. (See Kendall Briles transfer to Houston) All that being said... I still think Dodge is a solid candidate and if hired I will support him. Although I think there are other solid candidates as well and RV should hire the BEST candidate after taking all facets into consideration. Hoping you can get his son to play here a year down the road is a LOUSY reason to hire a head coach!!!
  24. Somebody do some research on this guy and find out how he knows RV! If this guy has ANY connection with Villareal then its a CRONY HIRE!!! and we all know how we feel about those. Lets see, they guy with head coach experience, a current assistant on a periennial to 25 team, is familiar with the conference and the situation at UNT....yeah we don't wan't someone like that. Afterall he was unsuccessfull at Army where nobody has won since the 50's.
