Dodge Press Conference To Start At Noon, Kntu 88.1
Baby Arm! replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok, now we all know this is what your wife says every night, but what does that have to do with KNTU? I keed, I keed... -
I think it's more likely he's referring to Missouri. They use the Dodge ball offense and have a QB from Southlake to run it. I wonder how much meeting time former SLC QB and current OU transfer Chase Wasson has been getting with the coaching staff?

While driving from work this evening I took a listen to The Football Show on KLBJ out of Austin. I tuned in the middle of it but guess what they were talking about? Todd Dodge and the buzz around North Texas football. Can't tell you much of what was said but what a change....Before Dodge, unless we are playing UT that week, how much airtime do you think the Mean Green warrented down here in the hill country?

Ideas To Get Em' In 30 Minutes B4 Kick-off ?
Baby Arm! replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I have the solution, but nobody will like it.... ABOLISH TAILGATING As long as you have tailgating, there will always be the straggler's and those who won't come into the game at all. This is true at every school. Even schools with great tradition and game day atmospheres. There are still those people who stay outside the stadium to either a) continue the party, watch the game or other games on tv, c) keep watch on their and other tailgater's stuff. (There have been incidents of stolen and damaged property at Fout's) There will always be people who come just for the tailgate party. I don't see what the big deal about it is. At Tx/OU there are thousands that just go to Fair Park to tailgate and hang out at the Fair, Go to a Penn State game and you'll see parking lots full of RV's occupied and partying during the game. Same at Michigan, Nortre Dame, etc... So when we get 15k to a game, let's not sweat the 10% or 1500 outside the stadium. If we had 30k, there would be 3000 outside the stadium. Just as long as there are more INSIDE than OUTSIDE. -
Compare and contrast the classless comments on the SMU board with that of the Longhorn fans Longhorn thread Even with their overpriced SMU education the comparison between the tow fan bases goes to prove...You can't buy class.

Unt Appeats To Have Landed Another One (6-8 285 Lb Olineman)
Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's no secret amoung high school players the job Todd Dodge has done at Carrol the past few years. You don't go 79-1 in Texas 5A football without people taking notice and games broadcast on ESPN and Fox Sports a couple of times doesn't hurt to get the message out. On another note i like this kids size but I wonder how this big Pennsylvania guy is going to react to the Texas heat in August during Two-a-days? -
Unt Stadium Talk Is Making The Rounds On Other
Baby Arm! replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually they wouldn't take that much land. The only place I've read about TXDOT forcing UNT to build a new stadium is in the repeated message board postings of some people. The actual prelim plans released by TXDOT I've seen don't include taking land that Fouts sits on. They would take some of the parking lot there, and even though there isnt much space, the plans for the wider 35 wouldn't displace the current football stadium. I wish the TXDOT rumor was true and I hope I'm wrong about it. But it's just not the case. That's not to lessen the drastic need for a new stadium, but it's a false to claim TXDOT is forcing us to build. -
Part of the problem is that Denton is in the DFW media market so we are woefully underserved with TV coverage after all the pro teams and other local colleges. If UNT were located in someplace like Sherman, a much smaller media market with it's own TV stations we'd get much more coverage and local support. Of course being in a top 5 media market makes us more marketable to conferences, sponsers, etc. So take your pick. Would you rather be a little fish in the big pond, or the big fish in the little pond?

Since I've relocated down to New Braunfels I'm pretty sure I won't be setting up the tailgate spread for everygame like I've done in the past so I'd appreciate a tailgate party I could contribute to when I come up for games. Some tailgating lessons I've learned I can pass along. POWER- I bought a new 1200v portable generator off ebay for less than $100. It's very dependable and ran all afternoon on one tank of gas. It's small but it gave me plenty of power to run a 27 inch TV, the satellite box, a small refrigerator, and an electric fan (a MUST for those early Sept. Games- I highly recomend bringing one.) SAT TV- Eric is correct about the ease of DirecTV. It's very easy to pick up a signal. In the Fouts parking lot just point it at a bearing of 181 (bring a small compass) and it picks up the signal. I just used a box from my house and brought it to each home game and only once had to call in to get it reset. Also I upgraded to the sports package for an extra $5/mo so I could get ESPNU, CSC and all the FSN channels.

What??? You mean to tell me that Todd Dodge can't ink every top 100 player in the state?!!!!! That's what we get for hiring a high school coach!! Ok, I'm going to approach this the same way posters on other boards do when they lose a recruit to UNT ... We never offered this kid anything... He's way over rated! He's really not that good... We weren't really interested in him anyway . or their most favorite... It's too dangerours to offer a scholly based on junior year performance... Yada, yada, yada Seriously though, I would have loved to see him at UNT but we can't win em all. Good luck to the kid and I wish him every success.

Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility
Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think we need to start a collection to fund an operation that surgically removes Plumm's lips from Hayden Fry's ass First off Plumm. Dickey is not my boy as you put it. Im not saying he was a better coach than Fry and yes, probably Fry could have done more in the Sun Belt than Dickey, and your 100 people in a room analogy I'll grant. Fry definately puts Dickey to shame with the cult of personality, But it looks like you worship at Fry's feet daily to the extent you have blinders on any other coaching achievements at UNT. Am I satisfied with where UNT football is today? No, Do we all want more? YES All I am saying is that you have to acknowledge the accomplishments during the Dickey tenure. I seem to remember up until the 2005 season you were yelling from the rooftops about the conference winning streak, the bowl games, etc. Refresh my memory Plumm, how many weeks were Fry coached teams in the top 25?, how many bowl games did Fry coach NT to?, One thing we know is you seem to change loyalties pretty quickly based on winning or losing seasons. We've seen how quick you did it with Dickey, and I'd wager you were'nt such a devoted worhiper of St. Fry when his NT teams were 5-5-1or 2-7-2 and losing to the likes of West Texas and Drake? Bottom Line Fry was a great coach. Lengendary. And should be recognized with something at UNT, but naming rights are determined not only by accomplishment but by $$$ too. Dickey had a buddy with deep pockets, -

Although I agree that the time had come to show Dickey the door, I have to acknowledge the contributions he made to the program while he was here. He did take the program to places it had never been to before. His teams did have a record conference winning streak, Did go to four consecutive bowl games. That is something that Plumm's Saint Hayden and every other NT team never accomplished. Yes DD's teams were never ranked, but then how many teams in NT history have ever been ranked? Even during St. Haydens tenure NT teams won some upset games but how many bowl games did they go to? Now before Plumm gets on his knees (again) in front of St Hayden, and talks about him being a Hall of Famer I'll go on record to and state that Fry got into the Hall of Fame based on his accomplishments at IOWA, not NT -

What will be most interesting is that they have moved student tailgating to the street between the tennis courts and the Super Pit. Since most visiting fans park in the free parking by Clark park and behind the old Men's Gym, those visitors are going to have to navigate their way through the Student tailgating section

I used to say the same thing, until my fiance and I set the date for Nov 10th. (Same day as the Navy game @ Fouts )

Will Anyone Ever Win The Sun Belt Fb Crown
Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Mix in winning it on the field for once and maybe it would change. Look at it this way. What if after the Super Bowl both the winning and losing teams W/L record for the year was 17-2. Of course the winner of the Super Bowl would be declared champion, but would the loser be called "co-champion" because they won just as many league games? Of course not. Bottom line this is a jacked up way for the Sun Belt to do it and it's allowed MUTS twice to ride the coat tails of true league champions. -

Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Technically they are co-champs, and I'll give em their due for that. But in my book it loses legitamacy when they produced rings to read Champions, instead of co-champions. They leave off the "Co" part as if they are the real and only champions, only they're not as they lost head to head to true champions North Texas and Troy respectively in both "Championship" years. If they continue to brand themselves as "Champions" they deserve all the ridicule and disrespect they get. -

Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This is my point. They've always lost head to head against the other "co-champion", yet they never list it as a co-championship. They've never outright won the Fb championship on the field. True champions win the games they HAVE to win. In my book when they lost head to head, they aren't a co-champions, MUTS just won the same number of league games as the league champ did. When you lose to the champion, you finished in second place. -

Since when is wikipedia a legitmate source? Anybody can write and article and post it up there. They don't check facts. Probably written by a MUTS fan. -

Depends on who is counting. MTSU has NEVER won it on the field (where you seperate pretenders and contenders), but yet they claim two, yes TWO Fb championships. If we let MUTS do the counting they'd claim it every year, they already believe they are the class of the Sun Belt without the virture of actually winning anything!
