Fau Fund Raising Millions Short For Stadium
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
(Sarcasm) WOW, how does something like this happen? Schnellenburger said it was a done deal! (Sarcasam) Maybe the 'silent phase' isn't such a bad idea? I'd like information as much as the next UNT alumnus, but at least you don't have a coach making outrageous claims and then having to face a embarrassing potential public failure like this. -

Nt Football 1958: Have We Really Upgraded The Program
Baby Arm! replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Lot of misinformation, myth, or urban legend regarding our supposed entry into the SWC. I prefer to get the story from the horses' mouth. Hayden Fry. Read it for youself in his autobiography. Chapter 15 North Texas State pp 89-98. Hayden Fry book -
Look, Im not saying that the losses SMU encounters are acceptable or that they are being good stewards of their money. I'm just tired of the double standard that athletic departments face on cost and profit compared to other departments in the University. To argue that athletics is not part of the mission of a university is faulty. Funny, I had alway thought that "University" came from the Greek ideal of a universal education. Teaching all subjects and educating the whole person.. mind, body, and spirit. But hey, if there are no lessons being learned on the fields of athletic endeavor, than why have athletics at all? Heck, let's scrap the Phys. Ed departments while we're at it. I've hit the big 4-O and it's been 20 years since I've seen the inside of a football huddle. But there are lessons I learned inside that huddle that still serve me everyday. Something happens inside of huddles. You have a crazy coach yelling at you, fans screamming, 11 other guys trying to stop you from what you're trying to accomplish, but you learn you're not going to get anywhere unless you help the guys next to you. When they win, you win. You learn what it's like to be in a complete meritocracy. You are valued by your contributions to the community effort, nothing else. You don't have time for rich vs. poor, black vs white. All you have time for is helping each other. In that effort men become brothers inside huddles. But I guess that kind of thing isn't part of a unversity's mission

Since when does an athletic department have to make a profit? Don't get me wrong, it's nice if they do. But why do we hold the profit standard only to the athletic department? I wonder how much money the chemistry department made during the same period? or the history department? It's a college, it's not there to make a profit (unless it's DeVry). It's mission is to educate, and that happens on athletic fields as well as in the classroom

The loss Courtney Howard as our Academic cooridinator is really hurting us now! Not many realized what a phenominal job she was doing.

What Are The Realistic Expectations For This Season
Baby Arm! replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I can always tell when a football team has turned the corner, it's not in the amount of wins or losses, it's when I see them doing the little things right during the game that lead to winning football. The defense NOT giving up 3rd down penalties that keep drives alive, Making stops on 1st and 2nd down forcing the offense into 3rd and long on a consistant basis. Stopping the turnovers!!, The offense being able to put together drives and get first downs. Field position- making the opponent start form inside their 20. These are just a few examples, but the biggest difference is when you see players give that little extra, working just a bit harder than the other guys. When instead of waiting for something to happen, they MAKE something happen. When teams start doing this, they've learned HOW to win. If that starts happening this year I think you'll see us anywhere from 5-7 wins. -
Forget about the risk of injury, what a player really has to ask himself is if the honor of the Oil Bowl is worth having to spend a week in Wichita Falls! I speak from experience. I spent a week in WF once, that was the longest month of my life!
-
ATTENTION ATTENTION- We have now reached the lowest point of the off season! With nothing else to talk about we are now engaged in debate on the merits of where Todd Dodge receives his mail! Can we sink any lower????

N T Football - Mediocre Would Be Better
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Ya know I never agreed with this argument. Unless they are some kind of protege or a student at TAMS, most college students are above the age of 18. That makes them ADULTS, not kids. Granted, they are young adults but they have reached the age of majority and it't their choice to engage in an activity for public comsumption/entertainment. I see nothing wrong critcisim of a player who isn't getting it done on the field (Personal attacks are out of bounds i.e., calling him a douche) And these 'kids' know what they signed up for, and they can hanldle it. -

Yeah, cut the kid some slack, this isn't rocket surgery -
N T Football - Mediocre Would Be Better
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
"More specifically, the Mean Green won one game in conference at home to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 29-38." I'd put a lot more stock in the kid's opinion if he could get the facts straight. Our lone conference win was against UL-Monroe -
Why Doesn't Jj Recruit This Young Man
Baby Arm! replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"Why doesnt JJ recruite this young man?" How do you know he didn't? - Maybe he did and the kid isn't interested in staying in Denton. A lot of kids look at college as an opportunity to get away from home. They may want to stay close but not THAT close -
Former Football Player Indicted For Robbery
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like he figured a way to get an all exspense paid stay in Huntsville after all..for about 10 to 20 years. Hope he can avoid the Andy Dufrasne treatment from the Sisters. -
Texas State Gunnin' For The Sun Belt ?
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Personally I'd love to see both Texas State and UTSA in the Belt with us playing there in alternate years. That would give me one Mean Green game in my backyard every year! Of course by 2012 UNT might be in CUSA by then! -
My bad...typo. Should have read $2m. Correction made
-
I do think it's interesting that with all the supposed buzz about a new $2m coach, new wide open offense, etc and all they manage to pull is 3500. (Opposed to UNT and last years' new coach buzz drawing over 5000 for it's spring game. ) Does anybody still think the Dallas or the metroplex is embracing the new & improved SMU because of it's new high profile coach?
-
Last spring all the lots were open (i.e., FREE) and you just set up anywhere you wanted.
-
Not to nit pick but wouldn't this have been better if it was on April 12th. Maybe in conjuction with an event being held across the street? Green vs White Spring Game???? Yet another lost opportunity at cross promotion.

"coaches On The Verge Of Stardom"
Baby Arm! replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
I look to the man's history to get an idea of how he will react. During his tenure as a high school coach Dodge didn't have any qualms about moving after a year or two for a bigger program or better job. It's not an uncommon story for young coaches. However, one thing has kept him in one spot...FAMILY. Once his kids were older he TURNED DOWN college jobs because it would mean having to uproot his family and he did that enough when they were younger. Now that Rilely is at UNT, and he has a daughter that won't graduate from Carroll for 4 years, I would be shocked if he were to leave before then. After that... it's an open game. -
And you're posting a 2 year old video because.......????
