"In one of the most caustic penalties in high school sports history, a Florida private school, Mandarin Christian, was fined a massive $142,500 by the Florida High School Activities Association, a penalty so severe they may imperil the school's very participation in the FHSAA itself. The penalty stems from some 25 recruiting violations and also includes legal fees and a hefty $10,000 fine against the school's football coach, as well. ..." Full Story

Interesting note from Dan Patrick's radio show this morning. DP said he was talking to a coach from another conference at the Heisman award ceremony that said whenever they find out a kid they are recruiting is being courted by an SEC school they back off. Why??? Because they cant compete with whats being offerred to the kids. DP pressed for more and the coach told him 'the Cam Newton situation is not an isolated incident' and said all the prized recruits in the SEC are for sale.

Yes everyone was cheating and paying players, but the reason SMU got caught in the media war of Dallas was it's own stupidity and arrogance. The other schools that were cheating did it to give the school some plausible deniability. But as SMU??? The were so stupid or arrogant (take your pick) to continue paying by sending cash on handwritten Athletic Dept stationery!, and had the AD staff distributing the payments. At other dirty programs they had the kids get their money from boosters or someone outside the athletic dept.

It's Official - Hawaii To Mountain West
Baby Arm! replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
It will only affect us if UTEP or Houston, or some other CUSA school also moves to the Mountain. Then it's ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!!!! Pull out all the stops to get a CUSA invite over LA Tech or any other loser school -
Chico don't be discouraged. Dan he aint so hard to understand. Chico if you try now I know that you can lend a helping hand. Because there's good in every one, and a new day has begun. You can see the morning sun if you try. And I know things will be better. I know they will for Chico and Dan.

A Source: Sro At Our New Stadium: 35,000 ! ! !
Baby Arm! replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Expect parking and traffic to be a nightmare for at least the first game. It always is whenever they open a new venue. It takes awhile for the staff and mainly the fans to figure out traffic flow and parking and best ways to get to and from the game. Parking, yes there will be parking at Fouts and some new parking around the stadium, but expect a lot of parking on grass either on the other side of Bonnie Brae or in the undeveloped land of the Athletic village south of the tennis center. -
Dennis Parker. He was the HC at Marshall High School and just won a state championship when UNT hired him.

Standard, run of the mill, douche-ery by the SMUt fans

Congrats And Perspective From A Baylor Bear
Baby Arm! replied to True Colors's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I've heard RV address the concession issue before. It's kind of a catch 22. When we are only putting 2000-5000 butts in seats for most of our games, that isn't enough fans to support more concession stands, If we had crowds of 7k+ like last night on a regular basis then all cocession stands would be open. We just need to have bigger crowds on a more regular basis. -
Somewhere I missed the law that said you had to graduate from a school to be a FAN of it's football team. We need all the fans we can get, I don't care if they are so called "T Shirt Alumni" or went to UT, OU, A&M, Talledaga Tech, or never saw the inside of a college classroom. YOU DONT NEED A DEGREE TO BE A FAN

He couldn't do much worse than what we currently have. As long as he hires a group of proven assistant coaches and not a bunch of high school coaches

This sounds like so much fun. I'd say I'd be there but when that game rolls around we'll have a newborn at home and I don't think I can talk the wife into giving me a weekend pass just yet.

So in other words you just pulled this figure out of your arse -

Where did this $100m figure come from? -
I've said for years that we should concentrate on marketing ourselves to Denton, Lewisville, Gainsville, McKinney, Sherman/Denison, even Wichita Falls. Basically every town between the Red River and the George Bush tollway. AD staff and coaches should be speaking every week at any Lions, Kiawanas(sp?), Elk, Moose, Mason, JayCee, CofC, etc meeting they can find throughout the year. Show some game film, hand out some free tickets, Set aside a hospitality suite at the game for the members and their families can get free sodas and popcorn. None of that cost a lot.

This Would Be Good Publicity For The New Stadium
Baby Arm! replied to BeanCounterGrad'03's topic in Mean Green Football
They did a remote prior to the Baylor game a few years back, but it's not hard at all. All it takes is paying the station the remote fee and they will do the broadcast from your location -
I laughed

If the city of Denton doesnt widen Bonnie Brae, you're gonna wish we had the kind of access SMU has. It may be on 2 interstates, but Bonnie Brae is a true bottleneck

Wac Officially Contacts Utsa And Texas St
Baby Arm! replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't want the WAC, but if you add two Texas schools to La Tech? It becomes more a more interesting option. However first choice would be CUSA -
Double Standard??? So your point that it's ok to be a fan of a school you didn't attend but this guy is a douche for doing so?? If the situation were reversed and he was a UNT fan and attended UT for a couple of years would he still be douche-tastic? I know if vouge to bag on the so called "t-shrit fan" but the fact is UNT will never fill up the new stadium or expand it to 50k if we don't start getting the "t-shirt fan" to attend. Its true for any college that is drawing big numbers. Go to DKR, Kyle, Jones SBC, Gaylord Family, or any other full stadium on a given Saturday and you'll find only a minority of fans present actually hold degrees from the two schools playing. So YES, it's ok for a lifelong Husker fan to be a fan of North Texas... We need as many as we can get!
