Actually, no they aren't usually that far off.* *Unless they are filled out by Billy Packer.

Now, now Drex, how could you criticize him - it's not HIS fault... it just can't be....

I bet Duke, A&M, and others just douche the campus with signage for road games... Experiment for you on-campusers - grab 5-10 people at random and ask them if they are excited about watching the basketball team play tonight. Write down each response and post them.

Well, Eastern Illinois had Tony Romo, so that makes them pretty tough without even looking at the stats....
-
So my "UNT basketball - the worst thing to happen to stupid rednecks since the Dixie Chicks spoke out" sign won't work either. Should I even mention my Terry Schiavo one?

That's a cheap shot at several former football players...and I won't stand for it.

I think I'm on your team here, CG, but roasting a guy for posting a fact by showing an earlier opinion statement he made may not be the way to go. Bad analogy, but if Hitler notices a building on fire and yells "fire," his being Hitler doesn't make it any less on fire. Hitler and Katrina in under 30 minutes....check. I'm the new Family Guy.

so you are projecting us as a 2 or a 3?

Mean Green Basketball - the most powerful force to hit LA since Katrina

The Big 12 champion never gets the fair shot - the game is too late. If KU makes it to the final game - they get the one seed. If they don't and A&M does (because they will have beaten Durant again), then we can talk one seed. Unrelated, but would ANYONE put any money on #1 Ohio State winning the title?

Not bad ideas - but all of it hinges on having a good name opponent - its a shame we squandered that opportunity, but I also remember we were in the process of shedding a promotions director who didn't care to be here and adding one who was in his first couple of weeks when the game took place with no time to plan. Regardless, some people WERE here the whole time and I agree with the frustration. Also, I hate Greek people, especially Uncle Jessie (and his bastard twin brother who stole...)

Betcha can't do what UTA did...

Football has worked some on changing the culture with tailgating and events and it has helped. Basketball does not really lend itself well to tailgating - especially if you're hiking across the metroplex. I usually only see about 75% of the games I attend even if I leave right after work. I think continuing to work on students of all types and make this part of their campus experience that they hopefully remember forever is the way to og. The art kids are the art kids, you might get them to go if everyone else really starts maknig it an event, but its a tough battle. I wil lstand by my statement that most of the student body just does not connect to any part of this school for one reason or another. I've attended 3 colleges and have never seen anything like it. I've actually enjoyed the in-game promotions we had and thought that half court shot was a pretty cool moment. I think a lot of the solution is improving the core product and then marketing the improvement....but that is just me.

Have you ever walked past a gameday banner with a group of students and just listened. They either walk by, or worse, look and laugh and say yeah right. Maybe if they all had that west texas attitude.... All anyone ever posts is more signs and more advertisments and then act like they just created genius. I guess "more posters" is the new rallying cry to replace "more threes." (sorry Keith... I know what you actually meant by that, but it's just so darn catchy) Hopw would you make the students care? An extra special rainbow colored sign? A clever sign? A yellow sign? A green sign with polka dots? Maybe RV already has his map pencils out waiting for the next stroke of genius...

Sigh - if you did all that you might get a few hundred more fans and lose money in the process. Schedule as many interesting opponents as possible and keep consistently winning. This is the most apathetic school in Texas and no amount of signs will change that... EVERYONE needs to build a culture that puts value on sporting events. The whole university is struggling to make the student body connect to traditions, sports, and programs - this is not unique to athletics. Most know that we have a basketball team, they just don't care. Until we have more success, a coach, a marquee player, or a big time run of visiting opponents, no one will magically start caring from a poster or TV ad either. It's a tired bit to bring them up, but I don't think posters turned A&M's sorry, sorry basketball situation around... Nothing wrong with marketing to the metroplex though, but I wonder if TCU doesn't do it either (except when they are good) because it's an investment that never pays off.

Who Gets Conference Tournament Revenues
Quoner replied to BonfireBrian's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The school keeps the revenue after meeting a certain amount. Not sure what it is, but I'd assume its at least $10K that goes back to the Sun Belt. I think hosting NIT games you keep above $40K. But hey - basketball is always a cash cow, right? -
I think everyone needs to cool out or Neil will smack them in the mouth! http://youtube.com/watch?v=t2C9oMmwl80

If there's one thing that pisses off UNT athletics, it's a mediocre or worse product....

Most of those guys don't seem like they have been anywhere near a box...
