  1. This made my day. I know you do hyperbole for fun and I definitely respect that, but... Mark Cuban - proactively invested in and changed the way the NBA presents the in-game fan experience, increased ref accountability, and is at the forefront of changing the NBA and high tech business. Jerry Buss - oversees one of the two greatest NBA franchises of all times Sean Combs - built a hip-hop empire. Still one of the most successful hop-hop stories ever told. Rick Villareal - oversaw pizza empire, helped UNT become a power-house, er, seemingly legitimate NCAA athletic program. Invented tailgating and capital projects, including landgrab deals. Felt no need to make any new hires or changes until all abut cornered into it (let the Bobby Ray talk begin!) One of these things is not like the other.... I don't think there is anything out there for us besides RV nor do I think we need anything else with everything coming up roses right now, buit the man is not god. People close to the program certainly don't think so, and nor do many of his competitors. I do think however, he is magical, but in more of a Chris Angell way vs. say a Copperfield or Hodini. As for Playmaker's comments, alcohol abuse is sometimes more lethal than anything on the field. Just ask Joe Namath.
  2. My only point is we'd still take the level of "sucking" Texas and A&M were at most of the 80s and 90s. As for the other stuff, we agree. But I think you are confusing tradition and creating atmosphere. I've never seen a school before this one were so little effort was put into the pagentry that surrounds college football. I mean, when you reach a point where the man who decides to say "hey, we should add a tailgating area and give the donors their own special area to hang out," is considered a genius, something has gone horribly wrong for decades. It also kind of lines up with my life-long dream to take tylenol, polio vaccines, and rock-em, sock-em robots back to the middle ages and become a god...
  3. I thought we were discussing how SMU invented rectal cancer, terrorism, crucifixtion, and the boy band music genre and how much beating them would change the program.
  4. Did you know there was college football before 1990? Having 3-4 down years is not sucking? By that definition, Texas sucked most of the 80s and 90s. Those schools have been in the national coversation and running since the 30s at least. Kind of builds you some fan capital.
  5. To answer the original question - no - but some people sure do when it comes to Indian mascot talk.
  6. Texas got what they wanted out of this. They reopened the pipeline to SLC, built goodwill with the Southlake community for future recruiting, and got Tre Newton. Win-win-win.

    Wow

I'm listening to you right now and noticed you became much happier about 2-3 segments ago. Coincidence?
  8. This attitude will be very relatable to our student body, but does it mean FFR turns on him? Seriously, give it awhile and we'll convert him. Even if I have to change my user name to Dodger or Hot Carl Dodge.
  9. It's just a quarterback. I wish Quinn was here to enjoy this with us. Oh, and funny DD story to tell you over PM sometime... as well as another good one. Does this mean you are back for real now? On the blog too? I've missed your laugh and your musk... You know what? I predict sometime this year we run a crucial draw play on 3 and five or so that leads to a TD or game winning drive, and we will all have to pause and bow our heads to the DD Memorial Practice and Alcohol Abuse Memorial Field for 20 seconds...
  10. Remember when that kid was our ceiling? These are good times. Very good times. We're up to our chins in dodgeball now, and I love it.
  11. UNT @ Mizzou - September 2008. If Gary Pinkel still has a job, he and his staff can kick themselves for not hiring Dodge as an OC - and if he doesn't then the school can kick themselves for not firing Pinkel sooner and hiring Dodge.

    Wow

Woody Wilson or Wright Watters? Both their chests looked cleaned to me last time I saw them...
  13. Our WRs absolutely love Vizza. It's night and day from anything they've seen. Unless he gets hurt or somehow forgets how to throw a football, it's all him.
  14. Careful - we don't want Mark Cuban suing Riley Dodge.
  15. Was I the only expecting razor blades and coke mirrors? I'm disappointed.
  16. Call me when the Rangers get to play in the JV league that even they can beat up on every year. Amazing how much better they played in interleague, no? Must be a coincidence...or maybe the Rangers really could be THAT good. Also, isn't it weird how Clemens is 1-3 this year with his only win over a crappy NL Central team? That 5.32 ERA sure seems a lot higher this year. I wonder what is different... Call me when the Astros beat an AL team just once in the playoffs. Call me when you want to mock both Texas teams. And don't worry - Red Sox Nation appreciates the large amount of fans in this state who have decided to "cheat" on both their teams and root for Boston. It's cute, and it let everyone feel like they were part of a title in 2004. Then, the next year, they all got to root for the Longhorns in the title game. Everybody wins!
  17. Wait - I missed this moment with the draft and carrying mock hatred for Houston to egg you on - but why did he even try for a double? What a fitting summary of Astros baseball: Secure breakthrough accomplishment, then immediately crap pants. Why does pro baseball suck so bad in this state?
  18. Well said.
  19. So does this mean you don't want to grab a bite and go dancing sometime? My treat.
  20. I bet Plumm hasn't slept in 3 days. I imagine him sipping coffee, covered in an old blanket, thinking any of his posts have the potential to change anything. I also imagine this post will make me a bad person or a bad poster or a young gun or a terrorist or whatever the generalization du jour is today. The program has had limited success and to call people to the carpet about what they don't like is fine. But if you want to call the administration under fire while giving RV an exception, you are using flawed logic. He runs the show and is not handicapped on everything, regardless of the rumors. If he is so upwardly mobile and marketable, why is he still here (and getting turned down for the jobs he doesn't - wink - apply for?) Regardless, bashing the people at this point means nothing. If TD and the group in place now continues our momentum and the building that has gone on from an administrative standpoint keeps going forward, we'll move up slowly. You want a quick fix to be done your way. If this ship gets turned around by this group of people you won't even enjoy it. Regardless of my feelings anyone else, I see no reason to rant and rave about a DD practice field and who needs to be fired. My personal opinions are meaningless until I throw a few thousand dollars behind them.
  21. Sigh. Texans are arguably replacing the Cardinals as the worst-run franchise in the NFL. Sigh.
  22. No - because this topic is new, unique and interesting. I agree with the last comment - they should be held to a higher standard because they are football players. A relative who played for an ACC school (to be named later) in the 1960s always bemoaned the lack of freedom and curfews they exchanged for a right to play. It wasn't a gateway to just do whatever the hell he wanted all the time. Some sort of consequence has to be there - because there hasn't been one in many programs for years.
  23. Yes it's a variation. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Moslem Here we go again.... down the offseason rabbit hole.
  24. In his defense, he was talking about Moslems, which I doubt any of you are too familiar with. Ignorant bastards.
  25. So you want them to do what they already have the basketball teams do? Perhaps the namesake of the Darrell Q. Dickey memorial practice field was not a fan of that idea? I can think of several meet the player events in the last few years where the team dropped the ball on getting a promised player to join the UNT staff, leading to several confused and angry children wondering why some a-hole in a polo was handing them a poster.
